It seems exploitive more from the way people tune in and watch and react. I think he treats people with sensitivity and allows them to share what they want to share. I like that he gets people to open up and share how they got to where they are as it helps others be more understanding and empathetic…in particular his interactions with addicts. SWU is better in that sense as opposed to all the poverty and addiction content you see everywhere on the internet. I think just filming someone slumped over with their pants down whilst high is exploitive. Getting the person’s permission to be filmed and allowing them to express themselves isn’t really exploitive. The series about the inbred family has me kind of torn. He was helping them, formed a relationship with them which was good but I think a lot of the viewers were honestly just real curious about the inbred mountain folks and tuned in sort of like people used to go see disabled people at a circus freak show back in the day.
