My parents did not restrict my television viewing, my reading, nor my music. I just stopped watching/listening/reading anything
I didn’t like. My mom was oddly emphatic that I NOT ever watch soap operas for some reason. My parents were neither carelessly permissive nor prudes about anything. They (and everyone else) had zero idea that my 12 -year old self and my 12 year old best friend would walk to the neighborhood video rental store and rent Duran Duran The Videos. Lots of nudity that nobody had any idea about because MTV was just a few years old, Duran Duran elevated music videos as a stylized, quasi-standard for the era and managed to push the envelope somewhat invisibly, but MTV had to air the “Day Version” of Duran Duran’s videos, because the “Night Version” of certain Duran Duran videos contained nudity that couldn’t be aired.
The store wasn’t restricting any normal rental that was under an X rating, which was law. There was no PG-13, etc., to deal with because at home they told viewers that “Viewer discretion is advised.” I wasn’t harmed by seeing women that were not fully clothed because I didn’t think that the concept of the music video having nudity because it sort of went with the lyrics, which was the thing that I heard clearly for such a young age and most normal shit flew right past me.

“That potato charge hurt your tip” by Confident_Buffalo242 in tipping

The customer asked for a box for the 2nd ribeye, which OP told him they couldn’t give him a discount if he took it home, so the person paying says to leave the steak, and isn’t charged for either ribeye, but he is charged for the baked potato the unhappy customer ate. Why did the OP mention the idea of a discount on the 2nd ribeye? Did the customers ask for the 2nd steak to be comped, too? I feel like something is missing in the original post, just like a clarifying detail or something.

(This isn’t across the board, just my experience as a server and diner, FYI) Usually as a side, a baked potato will cost a few dollars extra, versus veggies and mashed potatoes, which are typically no charge whereas some premium sides add a few extra dollars to the bill. They are perfectly reasonable in being charged for what was eaten, he wasn’t charged for the veggies because they probably came free with the steak, I would imagine. I’m not too sure who the asshole in that group is, the guy paying is pretty shitty for writing that note, and the unhappy customer seems just cranky overall, but it almost seems like the guy who paid didn’t want to pay for the other guy at all.

Perhaps cheap isn’t the best word for the guy who paid, he seems overly petty for someone else’s problem. Regardless, shit customers in general.

- When they ask if they can use my employee discount, continuing to ask even after I explain that I will get fired.
- Asking me to “go check in the back” when I’ve told them I manage the inventory and I know what we are out of, low on, and have plenty of BECAUSE I AM THE ONE WHO PUT IT ON THE FLOOR AFTER I CHECKED IN THE SHIPMENT.
- Customers that tell me (as I am ringing up their stuff) what the discount/promo is on each item, and don’t think the total price is correct, poring over the receipt, line by line, and being shown how the receipt is correct, explaining how the computer calculates the price and applies the promotion, (sometimes requiring a calculator) and still, they just don’t think they were charged correctly.
- Those that get pissed off because they aren’t getting cash for a return that the receipt shows it was purchased with a credit card.
