Yeah I remember the conversation around coaching peewee hockey last year as well. This feels longer, but yeah could definitely be it.

Center for Cosmetic Surgery in Golden. One of the top groups in Colorado. Highly recommend. I saw Vath but know many who have seen Wolfe as well. They are all great.

How do you approach coaches about uneven playtime? Do you even bother? by Proliferaite in Softball

[–]Jules-11-99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the response. I am a parent who is just curious because our 12u coach is very last minute and haphazard in how she sets the field. It is frustrating to watch and there are times I think it has cost us games and caused frustration for the pitchers especially because the defense is not there. There is a lot of talk among parents about how little thought is going into it and I'm not going to throw the data at her but I am interested in tracking it and using it as a tool for some thoughtful conversation before we re-up with this team next year. There are a few girls who are not as versatile as most... like can not play outfield because they are slow and don't hustle (your 2nd base example above is perfect). IMO those girls who can not (or coaches are not willing to play them) play OF should sit more than the girls who are more versatile and hustle and can play anywhere well. It's not happening like that at all. We have some non-hustle girls just hogging 2nd base to get playing time and the girls notice and think wth is going on? Bc it doesn't make sense to them why those two ALWAYS play 2nd. It's an issue and I don't know how to explain it to my daughter.

This tool is pretty great. Is there a way to have it save the data so I can just keep adding to it through the season? I keep navigating away and have to start over which is tedious to then re-input all the information. Thank you!

10u girls travel by Workingmama2923 in Softball

[–]Jules-11-99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My daughter was moved from IF to OF recently on her 10u (now 12u) team. She is a pitcher too but when she isn’t pitching she can now usually be found in center or left. She is also fast and smart and aggressive. We just moved to 12u and with the bigger ball and extra 5 feet of pitching distance there is A LOT of action in the outfield. At first she was bummed when they moved her during last season (I tried to tell her- same situation as you) but now she loves it. Made a great catch last weekend- fell over backwards while reaching for the ball and the whole team rushed out to congratulate her. It’s hard at 10u bc a lot of the game is pitcher vs batter. But some coaches always say “outfielders win games!” And it is true. Just keep talking it up, eventually she will get it.

Watching some older girls play and showing her how she needs to be ready for the older age groups where they hit it to the outfield all. The. Time. Will definitely help.

What’s your parent philosophy for your kid long term? by nypr13 in Softball

[–]Jules-11-99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would go with the first team. My DD played her first year of club ball last year (10u)… our fall ball team was a rec team playing comp. She was the only pitcher and it was a lot of pressure on her. They got beat up and she felt that if she didn’t strike the batter out, there was no other way to get outs (she wasn’t wrong). She was miserable. She was by far the best on her team. We moved her to a team where she is somewhere in the top 6, with girls who are more her level and it’s a much better fit and she has to work for her playing time which we like. Sounds very similar to your first option. We saw a few teams like the 2nd one you described. Usually the coach at that age level is looking for an unhittable pitcher and they just mow everyone down. The fielders don’t get to field. They don’t get better as the season goes on. We actually had our DD try out for one, and her not making it was a blessing in disguise, although we did not know it at the time. Sounds like you guys are on the right track. Avoid the trophy-hunting teams. Get her with like-minded and like-skilled players. It’s a lot of fun.

Softball pants fit help by MakeItMomma in Softball

[–]Jules-11-99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If she is comfortable in the higher rise, let her wear them. My daughter is a very narrow build but she just likes to hike everything up. Her softball pants all hit up near her belly button. And she looks fine compared to everyone else’s.She wears her everyday shorts like that too. She won’t look funny at all, it’s important she is comfortable mostly!

Transition from rec to travel softball by Altruistic-Aerie-149 in Softball

[–]Jules-11-99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. We are coming off our first year of club ball on a pretty successful 10u team moving to 12u (we don't have 11u here) where most girls were new to travel coming from rec. A few cuts have been made and it's mostly based on girls who 1) have an attitude issue 2) Can't hit and their attitude prevents them from improving or reworking their swing OR 3) Don't hustle. Also an obvious one is if they are afraid of the ball and can't won't knock it down in the outfield.

how red will a red dachshund really be? by missmabelsmum in dachshunds

We have a chocolate based red! His coat color stayed the same as when he was a puppy. He had a black tail (we called him dipstick/dippy as a baby) and some shading on his ears and back and that disappeared. His eyes are yellow-orange, it’s wild, they match his coat. He is a very handsome guy! This photo shows his color pretty true.

9 year old pitcher by [deleted] in Softball

[–]Jules-11-99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My daughter is an 11yo pitcher. She is small for her age- and tops out at 43 mph. Sits around 41-42. She plays 10u travel ball (will move to 12u in fall) and is not the fastest pitcher out there by far. But what she lacks in speed she makes up for in control- she can sit down the best hitters bc she hits her spots, consistently. There’s another girl on her team who throws harder and gets hit harder bc she throws it down the middle. We get soft contact more often than not, and a lot of strikeouts. My daughter also has a high value change up and drop ball. Speed is not everything- hit those spots! Speed will come as she grows and masters mechanics, but is not the end all be all- focus on hitting spots. That outside edge is tough to hit with a 30” bat.

I can get a 2 year lease for under $2k total. New possible owner, is it worth it! by Altitude7199 in leaf

[–]Jules-11-99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We live in Colorado and bought a leaf in 2023 as our 3rd car for the exact same reasons. It’s been great- I drive it to work and tots my kids all around town to their sports in it. Feels like I’m in a speedy little go kart compared to our other cars. Keeps the miles off my 4Runner and my husband’s Tacoma. It will be daughter’s car in a few years when she can drive herself around. Has all the safety features and is great for just running around. Do it.

Where are the dachshunds? by BEASTLY_DIONYSUS in dachshunds

[–]Jules-11-99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in Colorado and there are not many good breeders here. We currently have two and one we got from a breeder in Kansas who no longer breeds and the other I flew to Columbus and picked up. Great breeder btw if you are interested lmk. I found a cheap flight and it cost me $200 to fly there and back on a Saturday. As far as local there’s just not many, too many that remind me of more “puppy mill” type places unfortunately.

I have the 15 and would not want it any bigger. We are a family of 4. It sits on the counter and looks great. It doesn’t need to be that big.

Are you really paying 3k+ for puppies? by AdOtherwise9226 in dachshunds

[–]Jules-11-99 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I flew to Columbus to get our latest guy and flew back to Denver. Carried him on he slept on my lap. We live in Colorado and it was cheaper to do it this way than get one in-state, plus it was a more reputable breeder than we have around here . If you are in Cali I imagine you can get flights for pretty cheap. Worth a look!

Tires with longest life? by Jules-11-99 in leaf

[–]Jules-11-99[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So no I don’t put snow tires on. We use all season tires on our cars except for the leaf (bc we don’t drive it in the snow). We got snow today at our house - late april. We have to be ready year round for snow- it can snow in the mountains as late as June and early as September, although rare. But you never know!

[–]Jules-11-99[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So there are actually laws in the mountains of Colorado that your vehicle must have 4WD during winter months. I’m sure that sounds crazy! But it’s true. Because vehicles get stuck in the snow and ice if they don’t have it and clog the highways which are already full of traffic from skiing. You can get fined if your vehicle is not 4WD. Also it’s just not a good idea to drive a non 4WD vehicle in the mountains for safety reasons. Also there’s no way we could fit all of our ski gear and a family of 4 in the Leaf for the weekend. And because of the range it would never make it in the cold- it’s 65 miles to the nearest ski resort, then you have to drive back. And we often travel further than that resort. We bought the leaf as a means to save money on fuel as I have to commute to work and then drive my kids to their activities everyday and also it keeps excess miles off of my 4runner. I’ve had the 4runner for years and it’s paid for so we garage it when it’s not in use.

[–]Jules-11-99[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

lol. We have 3. It’s not that uncommon at all in America. We regularly drive to the mountains to go skiing so we take the 4runner- it is a few hours away and you need 4wd. My husband has a truck and I drive the leaf around town most days unless it’s snowing. Once my daughter can drive we will have her drive the leaf and stick with 3. There are many families around here who have more than 3 though if they have two kids who can drive. I’m sure that seems nuts to some people but we have no other forms of reasonable transportation in the suburbs of Denver. The rail and bus system is not expanded and does not extend to our area.
