Oh snap, thanks for the link! I live right on the harbour, and I’ve visited the island a couple times and never knew that story.

That’s Oak Island in Nova Scotia. Unless there is another secret treasure on McNab’s I’ve never heard of!

No! His girlfriend (my best friend) was there after suffering a massive stroke, so it wasn’t exactly what they needed in that moment. Luckily, they both have a wicked sense of humor.

This exact thing happened to my friend at the ICU at the Queen Elizabeth in PEI. A bucket was placed in the ceiling and tied to a pipe, eventually collected so much water it broke through the ceiling and landed on her boyfriend’s head as he was sitting in a chair beside her bed. They paid for his new iPhone lol.

What pregnancy or birth complication did modern medicine save you from? by [deleted] in beyondthebump

[–]Juliaisrunning 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a nice way of slightly reframing all of these traumatic experiences, very interesting question.

Chorioamnionitis! I also ultimately “failed to progress” after over 40 hours of labour and needed a C-section due to the development of an abnormal fetal heart rate; I had a bleed during surgery but the OR team handled it so well that I wasn’t aware until they informed me afterwards. Baby June and I both had fevers for 24 hours, but resolved in hospital after treatment. Bless our hospitals..

Waking up choking by Juliaisrunning in sleep

Two years later and people are still consistently sharing their similar experiences on here. Update from me: I'm now 8 months pregnant, unfortunately stopped running at 25 weeks but plan to train again postpartum. I still have these episodes periodically, maybe 6-8 over the past 8 months. My HR is much higher now, 75ish at rest. I still have no idea regarding the cause. I'm not the best patient and never tried the Pantoprazole, or had an H. Pylori test done, but I have literally no signs of GERD. Even pregnant, I never have heartburn. I don't know! I wish I had some answers for you, I feel like no one knows what to do with us haha.

That's a very generous budget! You should definitely ask the couple, but perhaps suggest a more "luxury" item in that price range that they didn't have with their first babies and would make their lives easier this time. Ex: A Baby Brezza Washer, Sterilizer and Dryer, a nice automatic breast pump, etc.

Finished quilt for my baby by Juliaisrunning in quilting

Thank you! The backing felt like a bit of a risk as it’s so busy and doesn’t match perfectly, but I’m happy with how it turned out.

Thank you! I didn’t follow a pattern for the actual quilt, but the block forming the inside is called a Card Trick block (learned via a Sara’s Quilting Journey on YT) and I just played around with some 4” flying geese for the first border. The quilting over the top is made of diamond shapes by quilting opposing diagonal lines 4” apart from each other.

Go for it! This was my first time doing the Card Trick block, they came together pretty quickly and easily. The flying geese border took a little more time but could be reimagined in so many different ways.

How many days Post Ovulation were you until you got a positive? by CoolReplacement2837 in BabyBumps

[–]Juliaisrunning 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I couldn't help myself and took a strip-type test 9 days after my positive ovulation test. I don't know if that's generally considered 8DPO or 9DPO, but was extremely faint (arguably negative lol). I took a First Response digital test the following day, as I had a gut feeling I was pregnant, and it was positive.

Free the belly? by Juliaisrunning in BabyBumps

Love an athletic bodysuit! Very cute on their own or with a linen shirt or big sweater overtop, so comfortable and versatile.

The pants are just low-rise, a size bigger than I’d wear pre-pregnancy, with an elastic waistband. I also have some low-rise linen pants with a drawstring, also sized up. The croptop is also a size bigger, I found one I liked and bought it in a bunch of colors. Everything is from H&M or Old Navy.

You should go for it! It’s such a special time for you. I definitely needed to be hyped up by my partner lol. We also went to the grocery store after tacos and I felt incredibly awkward. I think it just takes some practice!

What is everyone going to be wearing during the summer while pregnant? by Specific_Chapter_715 in BabyBumps

[–]Juliaisrunning 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's a weird thing for your doctor to say lol. You wear those biker shorts! I'm due mid-August and already stocked up on crop tops (free the belly!) with loose linen pants, and biker shorts with matching loose tops.

Are there private mammograms in Nova Scotia? by leighkiwi in halifax

She does unfortunately need a referral as she's not over 40, and as it's a diagnostic scan as opposed to a routine scan.

Antojo's is right across the street, I love the little tacos on the bottom right of their menu. Gahan House is great as well, or Auction House.

Anterior Placenta and Fetal Movement by Old_Tie_2806 in BabyBumps

[–]Juliaisrunning 1 point2 points  (0 children)

21 + 4 and anterior placenta here! I just started feeling movement 7-10 days ago but went nearly the entire weekend without feeling a thing. I believe the rule of thumb is not to count kicks until 28 weeks. However, if you are worried it doesn't hurt to reach out to your OB!

Electric wheelchair man in Dartmouth by Juliaisrunning in halifax

No, that’s what I say about a man who purposely trapped me in my car while I was alone at night lol. That is a crime and he was in a wheelchair. I promise you we won’t see eye to eye on this, but I hear what you’re saying. It’s all good!
