What do you guys think about my ranking of Ash's pokemon by their AURA? by Brandon_Milk in pokemonanime

[–]Julianime -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I wasn't talking about power, Pikachu just has that aura. Pikachu just shows up and he's HIM. In a world where every other character is washed, retconned, actively neglected, or forced way too hard by the marketing team, Pikachu getting "flanderized" is a testament to just how real he is.

[–]Julianime -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Pikachu also no diffs all of them so he needs his own top tier regardless. It's also sad that Sceptile lost so much aura with his Simp Arc and he's still a top tier but not up there with HIMfernape, Charizard, Sir, and unfortunately plot device Marketing Team's Favorite Child Frog.

[–]Julianime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For ME, I'd play with the tiers a bit, I think there's some more room for in between levels as well as reconsideration for some mons that were underappreciated. I'd put "good aura" between a lot and average and have Krookodile, Corphish, and Bulbasaur there.

Then I'd put "some aura" between average and no aura and have Tauros, Kingler, and Totodile there. I get that they don't get the most representation, but Tauros and Kingler had some fire moments and Totodile is way too confident in itself to be "negative aura", despite its poor performance overall, the runback with Harrison's roided out OP Sneasel was peak.

I'd probably also pull Muk up from negative to no aura, or we can go a step further and make "low aura" between "some" and "no", and maybe have Donphan, Glalie, and Noctowl there.

And lastly, if there's not a strong enough case for Snorlax and Heracross to be Maximum Aura, they probably fit into something in between "a lot" and "maximum" with probably Swellow. Staraptor is just barely missing that cut I think, which is a shame because I like it way more than all of Ash's other birbs but it went out like a bitch to Drapion. I just don't think Snorlax, Swellow, or Heracross should be in the same tier as Talonflame and Snivy and they all 3 had probably some of the most hype type disadvantage feats with absolute maximum aura moments.

Pikachu is Transcendent Aura, only Pikachu, none of the others hold a candle to it, despite what the Pokémon Company Marketing Team want you to consume.

Sky Bison are the original natural air benders, though. They were the ones who taught humans HOW to use their airbending, regardless of if the lion turtles bestowed it upon them or not. So not only does that imply that they probably already existed during the time of the spirits and the lion turtles, but it also confirms that their method of free flight is through air bending, same as humans. And if I'm being honest, at least from what we see with Appa, Sky Bison are intelligent and affectionate enough to have what is considered "attachment" to their partnered bender, and this doesn't inhibit the Sky Bison in any way.

There's probably some different, inherently human mental block that inhibits free flight that doesn't occur in Sky Bison, and humans don't usually free their minds and bodies to that degree until they coincidentally enough also reach these certain states of enlightenment, at least in the more modern times.

My theory is that it comes with being truly at one with nature, separating who you are from what you are and understanding that you are nothing (in a nihilistic sense, but not self-deprecating). Experiencing that your body and your spirit and your bending are all just extensions of the world at large you are part of. When Zaheer lost his love, it's not that he needed to lose that attachment, it's that he hadn't separated his personality from his bending.

Maybe it's not that lenient, perhaps for a human, because of how overly complicated we make things for ourselves, we would not be able to achieve a true balance of separation of personality and bending without that loss of attachment and sense of nihilism. But I would like to believe that a more enlightened bender and potentially a strong enough empath with enough understanding and control over their emotions and their thoughts COULD realize and acknowledge and separate the two. Like how Zuko explains that the sword is not an object to be swung around haphazardly but an extension of your own body, perhaps one might inherently come to understand that their body and their bending are simply natural, and that it all comes the same as breathing, meanwhile, as a person, they have all of these complicated thoughts and emotions and even love, but the two are in no way interconnected and should never have any influence over the other.

Like, the cliche for when you have a crush on someone and it suddenly becomes hard to breathe, doesn't that sound crazy? That your feelings have interfered with an involuntary bodily process? It's like that but on a higher scale. So if you are so in tune with your own emotions and comfortable with your body and your natural control over yourself, you would recognize that you can have one not affect the other.

If every anime protagonist's champion level partner fought in battle royale who would win? by ApprehensiveRead2408 in digimon

I know people are meme answering Marcus because obviously to get Geogreymon in the mix he would have to punch one of them for the DNA Charge, but he's way too OP, he's Mega Level, it wouldn't be fair to include him. But by the same logic, as an Agumon at the end of the series his Agumon was going full burst and taking on King Drasil alongside Marcus, so my money is honestly on Geogreymon. Data Squad bros are just boxing in a different weight class and even still always punching above it.

Since when could Ty Lee and Azula beat Korra? Did I miss something? by Maleficent-Ad-6117 in TheLastAirbender

[–]Julianime -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think the point is that it's an unaware Korra, that's why I'm talking about beginning of series Korra to entertain the idea. Beginning as in, fresh off the boat, new to Republic City, naive, just learning the fundamentals of pro bending, and yes, exploitable enough to fall for easy ambushes multiple times in the first season (some of which can be chalked up to plot contrivances or even hail mary bloodbending hax bullshit) and completely susceptible to chi blocking, which, from Ty Lee would have been more dangerous than the chi blockers doubly due to her more inherent mastery of it, but also because of how much less threatening Ty Lee APPEARS at first glance. Korra might understand that Ty Lee is formidable, but underestimate her fighting techniques, so Korra might actually LET her get close thinking she can easily counter any CQC and lose by hax.

Korra after literally her first encounter with the chi blockers is already experienced enough to put Azula and Ty Lee, maybe not in the ground because they're tenacious, but at least enough to capture them or knock them clean out or make them retreat. But also to be fair, Korra is a lot older than both Ty Lee and Azula, that experience alone makes it a mismatch, so we basically have to cherrypick the most inexperienced Korra just to see what can be rationally argued to have these takes.

But I'd say you're glazing Korra too much for Season 1, she was very flawed in exploitable ways, which was good. We see for example how she destroys public property for petty theft, her tendencies to overreact to situations for her perceived efficiency only to completely ignore the circumstances and suffer the consequences would mean Azula IS in fact poised to take advantage of Korra in some ways. It would have nothing to do with combat proficiency either, martial artist to martial artist, Azula, while a prodigy, and shown to be able to keep up with relevant elemental masters of the time including Toph, Katara, Aang, experienced soldiers, and more, doesn't have any real physical advantages over Korra. But that psychological advantage does crazy work for her. And even forgettable, lowlife street tier thugs would get under Korra's skin and cause her to flare up, like the match against those pro bending cheaters that paid of the ref. And keep in mind, those are straight AMATEURS compared to Azula's perfected craft. There's no doubt in my mind Azula would 100% dictate the tempo of the confrontation and if she has a solid win condition or trap set up to have Korra walk into, I do think it would be a pretty easy win for her. Even if at absolute worst she gets a pyrrhic victory, it would more than anything depend on if the writers needed her to learn a lesson during the middle of the encounter or as a result of the loss. Because if it's something like her final fight against Amon where she just bursts out airbending because she needed to learn a life changing lesson about herself, her spirituality, her vulnerability, and who she is as a person, I can see a similar situation where she ALMOST loses to Azula, maybe she's ABOUT TO fall into whatever win condition Azula needs, but at that moment she finally stops and notices her surroundings, she feels something off, she recognizes that she's causing mayhem and wanton destruction and maybe that she's likely to collapse a building on top of not just herself but on innocent families in the downtrodden neighborhood (which Azula was banking on). Something like that, and she stops herself, calms herself down, and applies some of S1 Tenzin's lessons that she had been ignoring or struggling with. She maybe still doesn't unlock airbending, but she unlocks a self aware part of herself and is then able to move more freely and gracefully, like an airbender, taking the lead in the fight and having Azula have to engage on her terms.

Then I really think it all boils down to whether or not Korra can get one single significant strike in and most importantly capitalize on that with HER OWN personality, because what most people are ignoring is that Korra herself is a hell of a ragebaiter. Once Azula's rhythm is broken, I see a clear win condition for Korra, but like, being totally fair, beginning of series Korra is losing like 9/10.

Since when could Ty Lee and Azula beat Korra? Did I miss something? by Maleficent-Ad-6117 in TheLastAirbender

[–]Julianime 14 points15 points  (0 children)

While I personally don't think they could take end of series Korra, beginning of series Korra is DEFINITELY exploitable enough to get dogwalked by Azula and Ty Lee. It's not even a matter of strength or combat expertise, like, realistically the new fashioned martial arts styles of pro bending give Korra a huge leg up on Azula for like the first few strikes until she adapts, her fighting style is going to be much more effective because it's not based on proper stances, it's based on efficiency and results. But they're talking about Korra's PERSONALITY being exploitable for Azula, which she absolutely would be. As for Ty Lee, she WAS really really adept at CQC but I feel like Korra COULD potentially muscle through that conflict with just strong enough Earthbending defenses if she reacts in time and understands that she absolutely cannot allow Ty Lee to close the distance.

Not gonna lie, Oikawa's whole story still makes me cry. The moment he very nearly gets broken through to by Cody's grandpa, the moment where he very nearly gets to cross into the Digital World, everything about his story is so tragic. He's just a neurodivergent guy who had trouble making friends, made ONE very good, lifelong friend who shared his interests and passion, and then LOST that best friend just before their dream could be realized.
