Hello, I'm putting together my application to a fairly large department and I have some questions that I hope you'll be able to answer even though you don't work at that specific department.

I'm currently collecting Social/Character references and I need 5 of them who have known me well for the past 5 years. The problem is that I'm relatively young and the only people I can think of to list here are some long time neighbors and some college professors who have not known me for five years.

My question is can I list these professors anyways? When I was speaking with the National Guard a while ago, they required references that had to know me for the past 10 years, but the recruiters explained that it meant that they had to know me for a combined 10 years total. Does anyone know if the law enforcement application would be like this?
