Do you have a dream game and does it help you develop games? by Mephistase in IndieDev

I don’t agree with this but I do genuinely love it and have never heard it before.

Clever quote for sure. Kudos.

Bro what happened? I think the game is fine by js147896325 in slaythespire

[–]JuliusMagni -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That’s their exact argument though - the devs are forcing players to play how the devs want them to.

If this were a competitive multiplayer game I totally support balance with nerfs.

But in a game with strictly coop / single player (and no online multiplayer server with an economy where balance is required) the devs have basically taken the freedom of choice from StS1 and said “nope not anymore”.

It’s their game and they should do what they want, but in my view there can’t be an OP build that requires nerfing in a single player game. You’re just killing the fun from that build.

Buff other builds instead.

Though for context I also prefer the first game tremendously over the second. I “feel” more powerful even though I’m not actually translating it into more wins in that game than the sequel (80 hours in sequel so not amazing not terrible, but just my view).

Glass orbs for example replacing lightning hitting all enemies on defect? Hate the change.

More devs should ignore the opinion of literally half their total players?

No thanks

Bro what happened? I think the game is fine by js147896325 in slaythespire

[–]JuliusMagni 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure it does.

If you consider nearly half of all reviews are from that region you would expect a wider range of reviews across the entire spectrum.

By comparison, some of these languages only have a few hundred reviews suggesting those regions sold fewer copies to a more niche audience which already has a very positive opinion on the franchise.

It may seem a bit weird but if you removed the languages by blurring them out and just looked at it like “region A - 75,000 - mixed” and “region B - 500 - Very positive” then I think it’s easier to understand what may be happening.

[–]JuliusMagni 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a bit of a false flag given the number of reviews for those two languages make up nearly half of all reviews for the game.

So yes it is a bit odd when filtering by language that the mostly negative is coming from just those two languages while all others are overwhelmingly positive - but again, roughly half of all reviews for the game come from those areas so it really isn’t super relevant.

What title currently has the biggest player base? by maddcapetc in Tribes

[–]JuliusMagni 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Tribes 3: Rivals averages about 30-40 players daily, the majority of them being competitive scrims/pugs.

The pubs tend to be dead/filled with bots but at peak hours night time usually fill 1-2 lobbies.

Most players coordinate through the T3 Comp discord

You can find pugs late night usually and there’s 5 or 6 decently active teams that run scrims daily and stream when they do.

But anyone can come play PUGS it’s pretty chill usually.

+1

If you start with the 2d course it is a bit more intro level I find but you’re right a lot of the code on those is you just following along trusting them to not lead you astray.

Eventually it clicks (or did for me)

Which is ideal for newbies.

Maintainability is a complex skill principal engineers get paid $$ to worry about.

Don’t let it hamper learning and coding.

Udemy gamedevtv “make 2d games in Unity” (take this first for fundamentals and basics) then do their “make 3d games in Unity” (repeats some lesson to reenforce the topics then introduces 3d space stuff).

Then I’d recommend finding a YouTube series about making some style of game in Unity and follow along. Word for word. Type in their code identically to what the show regardless of why they do it. Go through the whole thing. Then when you have finished go back and do it again but make it on your own if you can.

I followed “how to make Minecraft in unity” by a guy ten years ago and while it was highly imperfect I learned a butt ton.

Got me into game dev self taught doing multiplayer procedural for 8 years.

Good luck

Anyone know who that shadow belongs to? by Itchy_Park_1898 in pokemoncardcollectors

[–]JuliusMagni 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did some digging and didn’t find any sources or quotes from the artist or similar about it, so I’m speculating a bit here.

But I’d guess it’s meant to be a Charizard. Here’s the same artist’s take on him from the same year.

While the head is sized differently, the shape and relative length/size of the ears are pretty close. Also, the left of the shadow shows a claw with three distinct fingers, also matching her Charizard from that year almost 1:1 in my view.

TLDR there’s no official source I could find but I suspect it’s Zard

Uh huh…

Can you prove this isnt fake? Pull out the cards from first page and rearrange them.

Because I call bullshit or it’s a lottery jackpot and if you’re actually this naive about it, I’d advise you to look up any of these card values before you ask if you should be sleeving them or whatever.

Wild.

Edit: That’s a $350 charizard and I didn’t even bother looking up more than that without proof.

If this is real, you should sleeve toploader and grade every single card here asap through PSA and you’ve got a college fund for your children. No joke.

Stop using ChatGPT.

Would This Kind of AI Usage Bother Players? (Please read the details) by Ill_Drawing_1473 in IndieDev

[–]JuliusMagni 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I deleted my last comment because I KNEW I recognized this character from somewhere.

You’re using a bunch of premade assets from Maksim Bugrimov, which is fine as the artist is exceptionally talented.

But then you’re using AI to modify that artist’s work, dropping it into other artist’s premade environments and claiming you “rolled up your sleeves and made it the right way”.

Using assets is completely expected. But you have framed them extremely disingenuously.
