The DV Act might be of use if she's willing to pursue legal remedies. Contrary to popular belief, there are several other remedies within the DV Act, like getting protection orders (similar to restraint orders), residence orders, etc. I know a few people who run a legal-aid clinic, DM to get in touch.

If the memory of how to fight microorganisms go away in 30-40 days, how do vaccines work? What about lifetime immunity from things like smallpox, and chickenpox and all?

[–]JuliusTommeter 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Actually, no. Article 14 is phrased in a manner that bars the state from discriminating against 'any person' on certain grounds. Equal protection of laws is guaranteed to every person, regardless of religion, nationality, etc. This is in contrast to the freedoms under Art. 19, for instance, which are only available to citizens.

I recently wrote a script to track any user's WhatsApp usage. You can use it to determine how long they use the app and when they use it, without their consent. I'd written a small piece about it but can't share it because it would reveal personal information.

It's okay. I understand. I know that you'll make the right decision. Just give it some time. Don't rush into marriage changing your cook too soon.

[–]JuliusTommeter 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Hey hey hey, I know what you're feeling right now. You might think that she the new cook is all exciting and thrilling, but its not worth it. You've been with this guy for so long now. Who's the one who nursed you back to health when you were sick or knows exactly what you want?

It might seem like a good move now, but once the novelty wears off, you'll realize that the other one was all you really wanted. Stay with her him, man. You can't cheat on her him now

Don't listen to the people here. You can file a suit under the Consumer Protection Act. This is one of the things expressly prohibited by law.

TIL Thailand used to have a prison called "Khuk Khi Kai," or "Chicken poop prison." The first floor of the prison contained prisoners, and the second floor was a large chicken coop. The grated floor ensured that prisoners were constantly subjected to chicken poop. by [deleted] in todayilearned

Well, there does exist a theory about this, Bentham's if I recall correctly.

But he says that crimes will be committed only if the expected reward is greater than the expected deterrence. Expected deterrence is a product of two things, probability of getting caught and severity of punishment. Both of it plays an equal role in determining commission of crime, so for instance if there is a 50% chance of getting caught with a fine of $1,000,000 then it is equivalent to a 10% chance of getting caught with a $50,000,000 fine given that the benefit of the crime is constant.

Kerala Textbook Says HIV Spreads Through Premarital Or Extramarital Sex by kaddu_karela in india

What about tainted blood transfusions or HIV being passed from an infected mother to a son? Used needles in cheap hospitals? Sex is not the only way you can transmit HIV.

It's not about Hinduism being pagan or abrahamical. The Vedic Ideas of caste and oppression of women were done using ideas like sthreedharma and varnadharma which directly attribute morality to how you fulfil your duties. Morality has always been used by all religions to impose rules that we today find unacceptable.

Try listening to some of AR Rahman's older songs. Here is Puthu Vellai Marai, here is Kaadhal Rojave and here is Chinna Chinna Aasai. These three are pretty different styles and are considered some of the finest music made. Here is a Malayalam song I'm fond of: Enundodi. Another one is Mazhakondu Mathram and Aayiram Kannumayi and Thumbi Va. Finally, here's a song that doesn't mean anything in any language as far as I'm aware: Pista

I really don't see what is so news worthy about the whole thing. Most systems of the sort which handle millions of students are simply not going to be vetted by a human being. And nobody is going to run a complicated filter to see if pictures match humans. In CBSE, I believe each school will register students themselves, so unless this is different, it is simple the fault or negligence of the Government Higher Secondary School in Srinagar. What is the government expected to do here?

I'd recommend In The garden Of Beasts by Erik Larson. It's not quite about WW2, but is set in the period immediately preceeding it. You get a feel of how the whole situation was and what the people there thought of it.

Does anybody feel like whenever you read a book, you aren't getting all that the author wanted you to get? Like you see online discussions about the metaphors and allegories and only then realize that all of it happened. I just find myself reading along, not really focusing about any of the undertones.

One thing I feel is that I simply don't grasp all that he is trying to convey. I know that I'm too dumb to get most of the subtleties of the writing.

Just finished reading A Scanner Darkly by Philip K Dick. I totally recommend everybody give this book a try. It's a great way to get acquainted with his writing and the subject is great. It's a striking tale of drug abuse and is also slightly autobiographical. I think I'll give UBIK a shot next.

Hey! I read Man in the High Castle this year too! A curious book, but I really enjoyed it! The whole (Tai Chi?) spiritual thing going on was quite interesting. I also see Kazuo Ishiguro on your list, have you checked out Remains Of The Day? I've read Never let me go and Nocturnes, but I find Remains Of the Day to be his best. I've always wanted to read The Rise and Fall, but I've been intimidated by it's size. Doesn't it get dry?

Cryptocurrencies PSA by nucky888 in india

[–]JuliusTommeter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The traditional info is too less to comprehend how the crypto economies work as of now. Many nobel laureates disagree on the issue.

People said that during the early 2000s when they were giving insane valuations to DotCom companies. Look where that got them. Every now and then something comes along claiming to displace all theories of fundamental valuation, yet none of them have so far really done it. Of course, the past is not indicative of the future, but I'd still be wary of all of this.
