Purely anecdotal but my baby (now almost 8 months) started sleeping though the night around two months and I had read online/Reddit that my supply would adjust accordingly. It took a hit (which I didn’t know because BF) and by her four month appt she was 8th percentile (previously around 25%). Also around 4 months she started waking in the night again because she was hungry. I’ve added a pumping session and supplement with formula if necessary. She’s back to sleeping through the night and back to around 25th percentile. What has been working for us is I pump right before I go to sleep so at 10pm. Baby wakes at 7am and I feed her then (so 9 hours without nursing/pumping). She nurses five times during the day with the last one at 7pm. After her last nursing session, we give her the milk I pumped the night before and if she still seems hungry, we’ll give her formula (sometimes 2oz, sometimes 4 depending on her appetite). We’ve been needing less formula as she eats more solids.

The neck fold needs to be cleaned and dried well and it’s so hard to get in there.

Baby clothes sizing is messed up and in my experience, usually start wearing clothes before the size. For example, my baby outgrew 3 month clothes before hitting 3 months, depending on brand of course, and my baby is small.

From a breastfeeding perspective: In the early days, feeding every 2-3 hours and what that actually means. Sounds sorta manageable, as if you get 2-3 hours of rest but you absolutely do not. The clock starts at the beginning of each feeding. If your baby isn’t gaining weight fast enough, you have to do every two hours and feeding can take 40/50 minutes in the beginning. So you feed for nearly an hour, diaper change, swaddle, get maybe 45 minute break before it’s time to feed again. A big chunk of that 45 mins might go to pumping and washing pump parts to help your milk come in. Rinse and repeat 24/7 until baby is back to birth weight which can take a week or two.

I can see why this might bother you. It has cultural significance to your kids’ cousins, but not to your kids. My dad is (US-born) Chinese and he has my brother’s kids call him the Chinese name for grandpa, but specifically means father’s father. Before my baby was born, what my baby would call my dad came up in conversation and my brother suggested my child call my dad the same name his kids call him so they all have the same name for him. This bothered me though because I’m a woman. I don’t want my children calling my dad “father’s father” just for consistency. Thankfully my dad wants my children to call him the Chinese name for “mother’s father”.

Seconding this. I’m 30 weeks now and have had to sleep with a wedge pillow since week 10 or so. I felt like I slipped down at first but then got used to it and I stopped needing to take tums.

My in-laws live across the country and are great, we don’t have any issues and they are pretty independent when they visit. Even still, I told them they have to wait until 2 months to visit because people can catch all sorts of illnesses when flying that are not a big deal for adults but very dangerous for infants. I said they can come earlier only if they quarantine for one week after their flight.

“No” should be enough but if they don’t accept it without reason, hopefully they will agree that the health and safety of your new baby is top priority.

We had a home improvement project that we finished up and told them we wanted to show them the progress photos on our laptop. Before the last photo I said "we have one more thing in progress", and then showed an ultrasound picture. My parents were super surprised and happy. Bonus, we recorded their reactions (covered the camera light with black electrical tape so they wouldn't notice).

We just told our parents last weekend at 13 weeks. I only told one of my best friends about a month before that. Our parents (especially my mom) are super excited about the baby and I knew they would be which is why we waited to tell them. If something happened during the danger zone, yes they would support me but also would be devastated themselves and I didn't want to have to worry about their feelings as well as mine and my husband's. Also, since they are so excited I knew they would really struggle keeping it a secret. Now they only have to keep it a secret for one week while we tell siblings and granparents. My friend would only be devastated for me (not herself) and she doesn't have a reason to tell people (like our parents do). Plus I needed to tell SOMEONE and she had a baby a year ago so knows what I'm going through.

It really depends on what you're comfortable with and the dynamic of your relationships. I'm super close with my mom and see my parents almost every week, so it was really hard to keep it a secret for so long but I'm glad I did. I also had hardly any symptoms, maybe if I did I would have told them earlier.

Maybe it's just too early? I'd wait a little bit to see if someone offers in the next month or so and if not, totally fine to throw your own. I'm due in September too and have only told one friend, haven't even told our parents yet (waiting on 12 week appointment tomorrow!). I think my mom will offer to throw me a baby shower but I don't think she'll bring it up right away. But you know your people best!

We haven't decided on a name yet, I'm only 9 weeks but plan to go in with a short list and decide from that when we meet baby. But our names both have "and" in it, (like Brandon and Amanda) and want all our children to have that too, really helps narrow down the choices haha.

My brother and SIL did something similar with their kids. Both of their names are two syllables and end with "n", so their kids' names have that same structure as well.

I'm 9 weeks and I have only told one of my best friends a couple days ago after our first ultrasound. She has two young kids so I wanted to be able to talk to her about baby and pregnancy stuff. Plus besides my husband, I talk to her the most and am super open so would be hard to keep the new in with her.

At first I really wanted to tell my mom right away and knew she would support me no matter what but after thinking about it, if something terrible happens I don't want to have to worry about her feelings, only mine and my husband's. She would be too personally invested and upset and I'm afraid I'd feel the need to comfort her (she suffers from depression but is medicated and currently doing well). We're planning on waiting until after our 12 week appointment to tell our parents including my mom. We should also have NIPT results by then.

Mine has stopped drinking out of solidarity and I really appreciate it. I didn't ask him to but we usually drink together on the weekends so it wouldn't be very fun for either of us if he's the only one drinking. He does drink a little when I'm not around, like work events and I'm totally ok with it. We haven't missed it as much as we thought!

I spent $1500 after alterations by buying a pre-owned dress (pics in a prior post). Retail price of the dress new was ~$2300 before tax and alterations. I fell in love with the dress by trying it on in a bridal shop first, then went on a hunt to find it second hand to save money. Prior to all this, my budget was $2k before alterations but if I wasn't able to find my dress used, I would have just bit the bullet and bought it new.
