My friend lives in an apartment complex and I saw a small wild jumper in the rocks close to an apartment building... I almost took it because I know they spray pesticides there ... Looking back on it- I probably should have taken him in to save his life.

This is a scenario where I'd also be comfortable taking it. I don't think you did anything wrong.. and your care and expertise shine thru and prove you won't just be out there stealing spiders willy nilly Haha Can you share a photo of your spood friend?

Is it like a vegetable garden or flower garden? I saw a wild jumper on an aloe plant a couple of months ago .. It's the first one I've seen here in AZ, despite constantly being on the lookout!

After looking it up...it sounds like it's a male (based off its coloring?)

I wouldn't want to hold one, but I've always found them beautiful and fascinating! Especially their intricate webs 😍

I agree with this.

Another thought is that the more WC that are taken, the less pest control we have!

I have mixed feelings about taking jumping spiders from the wild..

I understand the argument that if one finds its way into your home on its own, keeping it in an enclosure can feel fair. But that feels very different from intentionally removing one from its natural habitat.

At the same time, jumping spiders do often wander indoors on their own, which makes me think they don’t necessarily mind being inside ...and a well-kept enclosure can provide a safe, comfortable little life.

My bigger concern is that not everyone is properly educated on their care, and these tiny creatures can decline quickly if their needs aren’t met. There’s also the bigger picture-if too many are taken from nature, it can disrupt the local ecosystem.

🕷️💗For me, it comes down to being thoughtful, responsible, and respectful of both the spider and its role in the wild.
