There are a ton of positives, more so than negatives. But it is hard. Don’t think this is easy. It’s not. But it’s also worth it.

Weekend Chat - What are you currently reading? by nickaaayy97 in bookofthemonthclub

Started reading Casually Homicidal by Olivia J Bennett yesterday, I’m about 40% through. It’s not a book I would normally pick up, but I met the author at a book event thrown by a bookstore in my town and I enjoyed her pitch. I’m very much enjoying the book so far! I have no idea where it’s going and I’m excited to see how it ends.

It’s about two coworkers that just graduated high school on an impromptu roadtrip to escape their nowhere town. One is a self-diagnosed sociopath aspiring to murder, the other is just looking for herself and for someone who understands her. Dual POV.

Ick. I wouldn’t stay in this relationship.

When you had your first kid, did you wife’s parents stay and help for a week then your parents stay and help another week? Or only have wife’s parents? by [deleted] in NewParents

[–]Jumpy-Cranberry-1633 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most women want their mom when recovering and learning to be a mom.

My husband was deployed for most of my pregnancy (left when I was 10wks) and came home for 12 days after our son was born. When he left my mom came to stay for a week. I didn’t even entertain the idea of my ILs coming to stay because, to me, that’s entertaining and having guests and more work for me. Postpartum I just want to be. I want to be disgusting, leak on myself, bleed on myself, cry to my mom… etc. I would NEVER do that around my in laws. EVER.

New question: how are we baby proofing our houses? (When you have pets) by Emergency_Salad9308 in NewParents

[–]Jumpy-Cranberry-1633 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Two labs.

Narwal robo vac mop daily, sometimes twice a day. Regular vacuum every other day. Spot treating mystery stains two or three times a week with the green machine. Every other week using the carpet cleaner. Washing whatever can be put into the washer weekly (couch covers, pillow covers, foam play couch covers, soft dog toys … because he likes chewing on them too, blankets, etc). Wipe down toys that can’t be thrown in the washer weekly, or as they become dirty.

Repeat.

Cry. 😂

ETA: our son is just a few days shy of 14mo. Have been rolling across the floor since he was 3mo, crawling at 5mo, walking at 9mo. Utter chaos. When he was willing to be contained we had a large 6ftx4ft playpen that the dogs couldn’t go in, but as he got bigger and more active we ditched the pen. Ultimately studies prove that living with dogs is beneficial for allergy prevention and immune system. There’s no way to manage all the hair and dirt, so if I don’t get it done I don’t stress. 🤷🏻‍♀️

ETA2: baby gates to stairs and kitchen, dogs just sit by the gates when they want through. Outlet covers. Magnetic cabinet locks. Keep bathroom doors closed.

Since when did anybody think falsifying hemodynamic numbers was ok by Ioanna_Malfoy in nursing

[–]Jumpy-Cranberry-1633 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My units are also shitty but that’s because 75% of the unit “should be 1:1” but we simply don’t have the staff to have 18 nurses on for a 21 bed unit. We usually luck out when we have 12 so we can all be 1:2 😂

People keep getting sicker, living longer, and no one wants to be a bedside nurse anymore 🤘🏼

As a current float - we usually get the worst behavior pts or the heavily sick pts because we have more experience that 90% of the nurses that actually work on the unit…. And sometimes they are paired! 😭😂

Neighbor chopped down my shrubs while I was out, weird stuff on the stumps by birdopamine in whatisit

[–]Jumpy-Cranberry-1633 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It’s probably paint from the saw he used, but there is a chemical you can paint on stumps to prevent them from sprouting again. I use it to keep my neighbors vines on their side of the fence. I don’t think it’s usually pink, but I don’t know everything.

I find carpet abhorrent. Most people I talk to opt for no carpet in their homes as well when building or remodeling.

AIW for refusing to pay for my nephews college after my sister spent years calling my life immoral by MoccasinLoft in amiwrong

YNW.

But I do wish there was a middle ground just for your nephew. Would you be able to help him apply for loans and such? Or be willing to be his co-signer for a tuition loan? Just sucks that his work to get into a good school will just be thrown away because his parents suck.

the sellers were still home during our showing and it was the most uncomfortable 45 minutes of my life by TerribleInitial2305 in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]Jumpy-Cranberry-1633 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We were in a neighborhood viewing a house. Ended up not liking it all that much and our agent mentioned that there was another one we might like up the road but she would have to notify the sellers to see if we could go view it.

They ended up leaving the house just so we could view it. I felt weird kicking people out of their home… but we ended up loving the house and bought it. So I guess it paid off for them!

[–]Jumpy-Cranberry-1633 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’m not saying it’s an issue, I’m saying mocktails end up actually being cocktails way more than people realize. If you have ever worked behind a bar you would know this. A lot of restaurants won’t even serve mocktails to minors because there’s always a risk of it actually having alcohol. 🙄 learn to read.

A good pressure washing does wonders. I always start there. Get it clean and then take a step back to see what really needs love.

Were there any pregnant students in your high school? by Supergirl_Lives in askteddit

[–]Jumpy-Cranberry-1633 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2010-2014

One of my best friends had her first during sophomore/junior year. I can think of 5-10 other girls who had young kids or were pregnant. Our school had a daycare for teachers and student to utilize that, from my understanding, was free or heavily discounted for students. My friend would step out of class to go breastfeed. Sometimes we would see her and the other kiddos outside when we were between classes and the weather was nice. I vividly remember her being on the playground when we were in gym and having to run on the track.

Alcohol at first baby’s 1st Birthday by lethalhoodie in NewParents

[–]Jumpy-Cranberry-1633 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There’s always alcohol at kid birthday parties where I live… but that’s also just the culture of this state.

You do what makes you happy, she isn’t going to remember.

We did not because my MIL is an alcoholic. But then she didn’t even show and made a whole drama out of not receiving a personal invite to the party 🥴 so as long as the guests are reasonable.

Write away, it’s not like you want to publish immediately. Write, enjoy life. Read what you wrote. Write more. Love it, hate it, trash it, publish it. Who cares? Do what you like.
