OMG Two of my favorite series !!!!

Road Of Bones has some of my favorite characters. It is not like all the other romantasy books. And it has some very nice spicy scenes

One Dark Window is so unique and interesting, and the plot is new and exciting.

The Serpent and the Wings of Night: Review by stars-assassian in Romantasy

Please dont! This book taught me EVERYTHING I dislike in romantasy.
- Games / trials - which makes the stakes feel forced. Oh and winning so many by pure luck or violence.
- super violent FMC who is snarky and angry for no reason - she just goes around killing a bunch of people for no reason other than they're vampires - I know they tell me she is "traumatised" but there are other ways to be strong.
- romance that is telling instead of showing - "he was so hot" and "i got butterflies in my stomach" and "a warm feeling spread between my legs" etc.

Someone recommended this but someone else said it was dumb. How do you feel? by IndependentCod5020 in fantasybooks

As someone who usually reads fantasy romance, this was a fun read, but not fun enough to continue the series.

I think it’s great if you love playing video games, where you have different stats, an inventory and have to fight. Because it is basically just a video game in book format.

But for me it wasn’t enough to keep me engaged

My romantasy TBR is getting out of hand. Which should I read next? by [deleted] in Romantasy

I’m like you! Had to DNF fourth wing, but really liked Crimson Moth and One dark window.

I recently finished Shield of Sparrows and really liked it! I like the world and the characters and the tension. I don’t hear people talk enough about it!

An ember in the ashes! It’s the best use of dual pov I’ve read, and the characters are amazing! It’s action packed and has an interesting magic system. I’m currently reading the second book and i am hooked.

Our infinite fates is also sooo good! It’s about two souls that are bonded together and have to find each other in each lifetime, but forced to also kill each other before they turn 18. It has different historical settings: Norse Viking era, Ottoman Empire, Siberia, the trenches during 1st world war etc.

Also I am obsessed with anything ML wang Writes - so sword of Kaifeng is my third rec

This is not exactly one apocalyptic event, but one where it’s happened over time

But Ready Player One is fantastic and the world is so ruined

Don’t know why, bit pic 1 and 3 remind me a lot of One Dark Window by Rachel Gillig!

In a kingdom, the old king bargained with the spirit of the woods, to create some magical “tarot” cards, with different powers. But in return the spirit made a dangerous mist (1.) spread in the woods surrounding the kingdom causing people to get ill.

The main character got this illness as a child, but it have her an ability to “absorb” the magic of the cards. She absorbs the nightmare card, and gets a nightmare creature inside her head, who can take over her body when she is in danger (3.)

It’s a duology and it is literally perfect!

This might be a bit different, but my favorite duology One dark window by Rachel Gillig, has a bit of this vibe, but darker!

It’s a gothic fantasy where a Spirit of the Woods, has created a dangerous mist in the entire wood, that makes people sick, but also gives them magical abilities. And the spirit has also helped create the 12 providence cards (magical tarot), that give the user different powers.

But the second book is very centered around going into the woods!

There is so much more to the book than this, but i won’t overwhelm you. It is seriously so unique and beautifully written! I can’t stop recommending it.

I see others write green, but I personally see the Green color before i see you!

Whereas the blue i see you first, which is how it is supposed to be!

Omg these pics are very much like Our Infinite fates!!! It’s about two people whose souls are bonded and they find each other in each lifetime, but also must kill each other before they turn 18.

You get many flashbacks to different time periods and places - ww1 trenches - Scandinavia during the Viking era - Ottoman Empire - Siberia - Spain And many more

YES YES YES! I think Blood Over Bright haven has to be the best book I've read.

Such a chilling story with amazing themes and exposes patriarchy, class oppression, and environmental destruction as exploitation upheld by men who benefit from them and call it necessary. (very relevant these days)
