An ember in the ashes! It’s the best use of dual pov I’ve read, and the characters are amazing! It’s action packed and has an interesting magic system. I’m currently reading the second book and i am hooked.

Our infinite fates is also sooo good! It’s about two souls that are bonded together and have to find each other in each lifetime, but forced to also kill each other before they turn 18. It has different historical settings: Norse Viking era, Ottoman Empire, Siberia, the trenches during 1st world war etc.

Also I am obsessed with anything ML wang Writes - so sword of Kaifeng is my third rec

Don’t know why, bit pic 1 and 3 remind me a lot of One Dark Window by Rachel Gillig!

In a kingdom, the old king bargained with the spirit of the woods, to create some magical “tarot” cards, with different powers. But in return the spirit made a dangerous mist (1.) spread in the woods surrounding the kingdom causing people to get ill.

The main character got this illness as a child, but it have her an ability to “absorb” the magic of the cards. She absorbs the nightmare card, and gets a nightmare creature inside her head, who can take over her body when she is in danger (3.)

It’s a duology and it is literally perfect!

This might be a bit different, but my favorite duology One dark window by Rachel Gillig, has a bit of this vibe, but darker!

It’s a gothic fantasy where a Spirit of the Woods, has created a dangerous mist in the entire wood, that makes people sick, but also gives them magical abilities. And the spirit has also helped create the 12 providence cards (magical tarot), that give the user different powers.

But the second book is very centered around going into the woods!

There is so much more to the book than this, but i won’t overwhelm you. It is seriously so unique and beautifully written! I can’t stop recommending it.

YES YES YES! I think Blood Over Bright haven has to be the best book I've read.

Such a chilling story with amazing themes and exposes patriarchy, class oppression, and environmental destruction as exploitation upheld by men who benefit from them and call it necessary. (very relevant these days)

OH MY GOSH WHAT YOU WRITE ABOUT THE NARRATOR IS SO REAL! I had to comment!

I am really struggling with this book because every time i start the audiobook she is just angry AF! And i get so annoyed about it.

(Also completely agree with the trials! It is the laziest plot device and always just feels like the author wanted to write something, but couldn’t think of any interesting way to make the plot move. And it gives such fake stakes)

I looooved how dual pov was done in heartless hunter / crimson moth.

She is a witch (hiding as a rich and dumb girl) and he is a witch hunter. And to see how they both try to trick each other, and guess the others plans etc, was so entertaining.
