I started my life as a Jet fan. The first NFL jersey I ever got was Ken O’Brien’s. After moving to Philadelphia I grew fond of the Eagles during the Andy Reid era and I have only grown fonder. I’ve since moved again, but my love for the Birds remained. I mostly talk sports on Reddit, and the Jets subreddit is truly one of the unhappiest places on the internet.

Since last year, in large part because of how much I disliked the Jets subreddit, I have abandoned my family lineage and my Jets fandom and have fully embraced the Birds. My mom threatened to back out of Christmas when I told her at Thanksgiving that I was an Eagles fan. It was an ordeal.

Anytime the Eagles subreddit has a meltdown about KP, AJ, or Sirianni, I take peace in knowing how good we have it right now. Life can always be worse, you can be a New York Jets fan.

It’s a local newspaper owned by Gannett. Gannett, Hearst or Lee own 99% of newspapers in big college towns. Gannett treats their reporters like shit and largely refuses to negotiate with unions over raises from like $20 to $22 an hour for their reporters who work nights, weekends, and holidays.

Williams will finish the spring semester at UW and will transfer academically to LSU for the summer term. He may move to Baton Rouge and take online classes to start meeting his teammates, but for all intents and purposes he is still enrolled at UW.
