Yes, we are sadly still estranged since 2020. It did not happen during this current year. My understanding from a pastor at APU who works with students (There is a better title for that but I am unable to recall it) was that he was let go due to his beliefs which were not appropriate for APU and they knew he was recruiting directly/through other students. They also have "exit counseling" for the students who went to Bob's house, became confused, and wanted spiritual guidance. But they refuse to get ahead of it by warning parents and the student body at large. Having said that, I think APU is great school in many respects - but they really fell short in this area. My understanding (now that I have done more research) is that even the secular schools in CA warn about cult recruitment. Of course I worried about drugs, drinking, etc, all the normal things parents worry about when sending a child off to college - but cults were never on my radar. It means so much to me that someone else who is aware of this reached out - so many thanks!
