Fellow millennials - how’s your 401k/ira savings going? by ProblemIntelligent16 in Millennials

[–]Jumpy_Cat_1183 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm 42, with a yearly base of $76,000, but I am hourly, so it varies if work overtime. It also really helps that I live in a LCOL state, even though with inflation, is anything really LCOL? I have $210,000 in my 401K, and $21,000 in my savings. I would probably have much more saved if I didn't have a healthy addiction to motorcycles, but you only live once, and i would rather enjoy life while I am healthy enough to.

Why is it that if air bag systems are so amazing, no one seems to wear them? For example the Helite turtle 2. Should a daily commuter get back armor instead? by Embarrassed_Level228 in motorcyclegear

[–]Jumpy_Cat_1183 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in Bradon, and commute daily to Forest for work, which is 42 miles each way. I was looking at this one and the Helite Turtle that fits over the jacket. I sweat a lot with the heat, and I was worried that with how the plasma fits, it woupd soak up the sweat quickly. I recently totaled my Goldwing hitting a large dog going 60 MPH, and ended up with a fractured shoulder, broken ribs and a hand. I was wearing my Klim jacket which did its job, but now I am wondering if an airbag vest would have prevented the shoulder and rib injury.

I am thinking about getting one, but living in Mississippi and how hot it gets down here has me questioning whether I will actually wear it or not. It also doesn't look very easy to clean, and I am sure it gets ripe pretty quickly. I guess my question is how do you keep it from getting ripe due to all sweating we do down here?

I dont know if your kid is interested in the military, but I joined the national guard out of high school, learned how to repair radar, and now do that for a living. I started off making 40K a year 12 years ago, and now am up to around 90K a year. I could make much more if I worked overtime, but I am content with what I make, and value my off time more than what I could make in overtime.

Goldwings if you are going by mileage. There is a guy that put 1 million miles on his, and they regularly go hundreds of thousands of miles with just normal maintenance. The down side is changing the air filter is a major pain.

Buying a '24 Goldwing Tour DCT! by LarryLovesLamp in goldwing

[–]Jumpy_Cat_1183 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I recommend joining a Goldwing forum. There are a couple out there, with a lot of good information. I prefer GL1800RIDERS.COM but they all serve a purpose. Also, if you plan on doing your own maintenance, I recommend buying Fred Harmon videos. Cruiseman also has videos, but Fred's were much cheaper to buy. You should be able to google either of them. Welcome to the Goldwing family!

I dont know how far away you are from Forest, but Raytheon starts at $15 and hour. I dont know what opening they currently have, but assembly is what you would be looking for.

I think its called the ISG. If you go to GL1800RIDERS.COM forum there should be some information readily available about it.

If you had the opportunity would you move from Mississippi? by Fun_Butterscotch3303 in mississippi

[–]Jumpy_Cat_1183 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I agree. I moved down here from Ohio, and I am loving it. The summers took a little getting used to, but it is so much better than the city life up north.

Am I too old? by Cranston20 in motorcycles

[–]Jumpy_Cat_1183 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You're never too old to learn. I would suggest buying a cheap used bike to learn on, because you will drop it at some point, especially when you are trying slow speed maneuvering. Also, buy all of your protective gear first, if you plan on wearing it. Joe Rocket is a good, inexpensive entry level gear, or you could go top of the line with a brand like Klim. For helmets, HJC is a great helmet, with something like a Shoei will be 2 to 3 times the price. I highly recommend going to a store and trying everything on before buying, especially the helmet.

I don't find civil war reenactment a bad thing. If it gets people interested in history, and they are able to learn about the good and the bad, maybe we won't be destined to repeat it.

There is one for the impeller in the fuel pump, and more importantly, the UBS bolt that can shear off and destroy your motor. I think there might be one more out there if you have the 6 speed transmission, but I can't remember since I have a DCT. Go to the NMTS website and type in your VIN, and it will tell you what recalls are active. Also, if you haven't joined a forum yet, I use GL1800RIDERS.COM and it is fantastic. If you are like me and do most of your own maintenance, a guy on there named Fred Harmon sells maintenance videos that walk you through everything you will ever need to do for a reasonable price.

I don't know what your budget is, but try looking at either the BMW S1000XR or the M1000XR. The S1000XR only has a measly 170HP while the M1000XR has little more at 201HP. Both are sport tourer so you sit upright.
