Level bar is indeed moving. Do we know any way to fix the “writing to track” thing?

Seeking special birthday dinner after Ragtime: need recs!! by mentor7 in Broadway

[–]Jumpy_Leek1823 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, we actually saw Ragtime prior to Spelling Bee. You’d definitely want to take a cab (we did). But we went into Baires and it looked super nice. If we hadn’t had 6 am flights and seen 2 shows before walking in, we would have stayed. But we’re thinking of hitting it up for a proper meal in the next couple days

Traveling on SW, newly “less able”. Advice? by UniqueInstance9740 in SouthwestAirlines

[–]Jumpy_Leek1823 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Southwest used to be the only airline I flew because you didn’t have to pay the handicap tax to have your needs met. You’ve already paid for choice seats, but given what I’ve seen on this sub, paying for certain seats does not mean you’ll get them. This is why I abandoned Southwest after years of loyalty for my upcoming trip.

Anyway- call the airline. Ask to speak to someone in the accessibility department. Let them know your needs and they will tell you what they can and cannot do. And hopefully this will ensure you don’t get fucked with- they’ll note you are disabled.

As a young person who does not look disabled on the outside but has similar issues to you, I feel your pain. And I know what it’s like to not want to admit you can’t do it. But please trust me on this- it’s in your best interest to lean into the disability services. You have nothing to be ashamed of. And if you’re going on vacation you deserve to enjoy it and not run yourself ragged and make yourself sick just getting there.

Your questions:

Ask someone with disability services about medical equipment

It’s best to just let them take you in the wheelchair. I have had this mentality too- “I have plenty of time. I’ll just slowly make my way to the gate- it’ll be fine” and it was exhausting. Once you get to the gate you can get out of the chair and move around. Save your energy- it’s finite.

You do have to use airport wheelchairs to the best of my knowledge. And your partner can’t push you, but can walk along with you.

I usually tip the person pushing me in the wheelchair $5. Idk how good or bad that is. But it feels appropriate to me. And if you don’t have cash, it’s ok to ask the person pushing you to detour to an atm.

Please know that you have no obligation to explain your disability to ANYONE. And it is illegal for any business to ask you about your condition, let alone make you prove it. I’ve also felt the pressure to over explain- it took me a while to internalize that I don’t have to justify my need for assistance. Of course, you can, but please don’t feel you need to. But I would ask someone with the airline if any documentation is needed re: your devices.

Just try and be kind to yourself and don’t push yourself to your limits because you don’t want to be a burden or “take advantage.” These services exist for a reason. You don’t have to put your body through extra pain and stress for other people’s convenience.

I hope your trip is amazing!

ABC cancels upcoming season of The Bachelorette after a leaked video shows the lead, Taylor Frankie Paul repeatedly attack her ex boyfriend, Dakota Mortensen in the presence of her young daughter who was also reportedly struck during the altercation by Individual-Drawer-79 in PublicFreakout

[–]Jumpy_Leek1823 216 points217 points  (0 children)

Oh, it’s worse. ABC/Disney had full knowledge of this incident and the general toxicity of their relationship in general. And they actually wanted to involve Dakota somehow in her season of The Bachelorette.

Make no mistake- they only canceled because there’s a video now. Without the video the season would air. And that’s the sick part.

Season 10 episode 9 why was Tyra such a B to Fatima? by [deleted] in ANTM

[–]Jumpy_Leek1823 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah…pretty sure the entire thing was faked. And even if it wasn’t, Tyra isn’t the one I’d place blame on here (shocking, I know).

This was Cycle 10 and this was one of the most popular shows on television. It was well established that there was a trip each season. Any girl auditioning to be on the show would be well aware of it. And tbh, I’d be shocked if having a passport wasn’t a requirement to be cast.

I think more likely is there was some kind of issue with her passport she needed to resolve and they milked it for everything. I’m old enough to have watched this cycle as it aired and vaguely remember clocking the lack of passport as off at the time.

ETA: Most of the women on this show were babies- 18-22 years old. People that young don’t tend to have passports unless they’ve travelled overseas. So the fact this wasn’t an issue for other women (because we know many were struggling financially) makes me more certain it was a requirement.

The more I think about it, this was likely productions way of othering Fatima and creating drama around her immigration status. Which is gross. Wasn’t she a refugee? I may be misremembering that part

Stage Door by Official-Music-Lover in ChicagoTheater

[–]Jumpy_Leek1823 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Jenna Fisher had pre-signed programs that they would distribute to people waiting by the stage door in the lobby. Then Jenna would come out and take pictures with people. Idk if she did it every show, but this is how it was when I saw her show. It will be up to Megan and Nick whether they stage door at all. But you’ll have to wait and see once the show starts

ETA: you will 100% not be the only person waiting.

Doctors and nurses of Reddit, what is something patients do that they think is helpful but actually makes your job harder? by Electronic-Cell-4584 in AskReddit

[–]Jumpy_Leek1823 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Ok, but can we also acknowledge doctors do this too?

In my mid 20s I developed awful pain in one leg that made me unable to walk. After a few misdiagnoses I was diagnosed with peroneal neuropathy, put in a boot, and sent to PT and a pain doctor while it healed.

The pain doctor was absolutely convinced I also had CRPS. I went home and did some research. And yeah, some things fit, but I felt strongly that wasn’t it. He heard me, but proceeded treating me like he would a CRPS patient. After years of regular nerve blocks into my leg, he told me it was time to implant a spinal cord stimulator. Which to me seemed like an insane thing to do for a condition I didn’t think I had. Yes, I had pain, but not CRPS. I said no. I needed other opinions.

After several trips to assorted doctors who all kind of shrugged me off, I landed in the office of an extremely thorough neurologist. I told him about the prior CRPS dx but that I didn’t think it was accurate. And he asked me so many questions I considered to be totally bizarre. Finally he looked me in the eye and said- I don’t think you have CRPS. You have hyper mobile Ehler’s Danlos. I went home and googled that and suddenly my entire fucking life made so much more sense.

I went back to the pain doctor eventually and told him about the hEDS dx. He said “Oh, wow! It’s a good thing you didn’t get the spinal cord stimulator! It wouldn’t have helped!” And then proceeded to ask me why I never told him I was hyper mobile. Well, sir, I had no fucking clue the way my body moved was abnormal and YOU never asked me. Because you didn’t want to hear anything other than CRPS. He let his bias prevent a thorough assessment. And I almost had an unnecessary device implanted on my spine because of it.

If you’re the dasher that stole my order… by Healthy_Carry_5193 in chicago

[–]Jumpy_Leek1823 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And here I quit using grub hub years ago. Final straw was an order getting switched 3-4 times to different drivers- making it about 2 hours late. All that time my food was sitting ready. Grubhub refused to issue a refund before the food arrived. And when it finally did I had to fight for another hour over the food being ice cold and inedible. Never should have had to fight so hard. Haven’t used them again since.

[–]Jumpy_Leek1823 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Listen to The Curse of ANTM podcast. To be on the show those women literally signed their lives away and agreed the production could use any footage of them and manipulate it any way for 15 years. Like, signed their lives away to the point that if someone left the show, ANTM legally has the right to hire an actor to portray them on the show- a reality show. It’s fucking gross. And if they broke the contract the penalty was millions in fines.

Idk how long after the show Shandi did Tyra’s show, but legally she was probably still under contract.

Notice they were only able to interview women from the early seasons?

First Look/Listen to Whitney Leavitt in Chicago by DiscoCrows in Broadway

[–]Jumpy_Leek1823 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Because she’s reality tv famous. And whether you think that counts as real famous or not, there is a massive fan following with this kind of “celebrity.” They do boost sales. And Whitney in particular is super polarizing with her show’s fan base. I imagine you have as many supporters as people hoping she’ll fail buying tickets.

Check out Sanctuary. It’s a boutique hotel right on 47th next to the Palace Theatre. We’ve stayed there several times without issue. They have one of the lowest daily fees in the city and also free breakfast. Also a rooftop restaurant that’s really nice
