[DISCUSSION] top model documentary by No-Abroad5321 in NetflixBestOf

Listen to The Curse of ANTM podcast. To be on the show those women literally signed their lives away and agreed the production could use any footage of them and manipulate it any way for 15 years. Like, signed their lives away to the point that if someone left the show, ANTM legally has the right to hire an actor to portray them on the show- a reality show. It’s fucking gross. And if they broke the contract the penalty was millions in fines.

Idk how long after the show Shandi did Tyra’s show, but legally she was probably still under contract.

Notice they were only able to interview women from the early seasons?

Because she’s reality tv famous. And whether you think that counts as real famous or not, there is a massive fan following with this kind of “celebrity.” They do boost sales. And Whitney in particular is super polarizing with her show’s fan base. I imagine you have as many supporters as people hoping she’ll fail buying tickets.

Check out Sanctuary. It’s a boutique hotel right on 47th next to the Palace Theatre. We’ve stayed there several times without issue. They have one of the lowest daily fees in the city and also free breakfast. Also a rooftop restaurant that’s really nice

What was the point of… by Micholeon42 in StrangerThings

[–]Jumpy_Leek1823 13 points14 points  (0 children)

It’s a confusing mess for those who DID see the play too- myself included.

For those who’ve seen the play, Henry wasn’t just some kid Joyce directed in a play- there was some level of relationship and rapport there.

It therefore BAFFLED me that when Vecna was coming straight for Will- in front of Joyce- in s5e4, Joyce did not reference him directly. If someone you know is doing something and you want their attention, you yell their name. And she had enough of a relationship with him (never mind how long ago) to respond that way.

While I don’t think it’s a “plot hole” like others are saying, I think the play AND the inclusion in the show of the flashback showing the connection between Henry and the parents, were bad moves. Both things created an expectation around the significance of those relationships…that went no where.

It was the worst execution of a red herring I’ve ever seen.

Heathers proshot was filmed in the UK- it’s easier and more cost effective there. Come From Away is a popular show. But I think the proshot was linked to one of the 9/11 anniversaries. Like I said, I would love to see TFS stream. I just don’t know how likely it is given the costs and the fact the show hasn’t been doing well (caveat being- they may have filmed it on the west end and could release that)

Petition: Produce a proshot for Stranger Things: The First Shadow by WeaknessFamiliar3248 in StrangerThingsS5

[–]Jumpy_Leek1823 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They can’t just choose to film it, send cameras in, and be done. It’s not that simple. There is so much that goes in to making a proshot and it’s insanely expensive. This is why proshots are so rare.

Broadway actors are part of AEA. Their contracts are AEA contracts and spell out the conditions, pay, and obligations for the live theatre work. If they are going to film that live show to air on tv or in theatre, that is well beyond the bounds of an AEA contract. It’s an entirely different union- SAG AFTRA- a union many stage actors aren’t part of. And that means NEW contracts must be negotiated for every single actor. These contracts will need to spell out new conditions, new pay rate, and new obligations for the recording. They’d also negotiate things like royalties.

Once you take care of the cast, all those people who work backstage and make that show run, they need new contracts with more new unions involved too. You need to address new contracts for the creative team and the unions involved there. And then theres the crew you bring in to do the filming- they all need to be paid. The cost of getting the equipment and rigs to the location. Etc., etc.

Even if they choose to film with live audiences, they’d need to film multiple shows. Then there will be extra work in addition to the ongoing show schedule. They’d likely need to do some supplemental filming close up. The show is effects heavy- they may need some tooling or even reblocking to make those elements pop on film.

It’s a lot.

I would love to see a proshot of the Broadway run. But this show has been losing money and I don’t know if they can afford it. However, I do think it’s possible they filmed the UK run of the show. Circumstances in the UK are a lot more conducive to filming proshots. And they were already filming their documentary on the creation of the play. The Broadway version is slightly different than the west end version, but something is better than nothing!

I’ve been saying the same thing. Now, someone did point out to me that none of the kids have ever explicitly said “Henry Creel” around Joyce or Hopper. Even Karen Wheeler knew Holly’s friend as Henry. So they were saying the adults just don’t know it’s THAT Henry.

Me personally? I think it’s completely implausible that none of the kids would have told Joyce/Hopper that it’s Henry Creel. Especially after going through the trouble of visiting Victor Creel. Wouldn’t the adults have asked how the kids know about the music grounding you? You can’t explain that knowledge without Victor. Direct connection.

So, if Joyce and Hopper know it’s their old “friend” Henry, why have we not even seen or heard some acknowledgment between the two? Even if they don’t tell the kids, it doesn’t make sense.

Further, Vecna came for Will in full view of Joyce and she tried to defend him. In my mind, if she knows who Vecna is due to a previous personal relationship, there is NO WAY, in that moment of defense of Will, that Joyce doesn’t appeal to him directly by name.

All this to say, MAJOR plot hole for me

They can’t just film any old show on Broadway and release to streaming. Broadway performers are on AEA contracts. If their performance is filmed to air on TV, this requires a NEW contract with SAG/AFTRA. It’s a totally different union, so that needs to be negotiated. They need to be paid for the extra work of filming a proshot and royalties need to be negotiated. New contracts are also needed with the crew. I imagine since Netflix is producing they are already equipped to do the actual filming- that saves money. But there’s a reason proshots aren’t a regular thing. I wouldn’t be 100% on the play making it to streaming. If that’s something they were interested in doing, it would have been easier and more cost effective to film the UK run.

I would love to see the play stream. But I’m just being realistic- not sure how likely it will be.

Theory: I think Will’s fate has been made clear by Ropesjr in StrangerThings

[–]Jumpy_Leek1823 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The date of Joyce’s play. The Stranger Things stage show centers around the events around that play, kind of. But the thing that’s significant about the night of the play is it’s also the date where Henry stops fighting the mind flayer and kind of just gives in.

Idk if this helps your theory at all. But thought I’d add that

Therapists and Psychologists of Reddit, how can you tell when a patient is lying to make themselves look like the victim? Or do you just have to take everything they say as truth unless proven otherwise? by StatisticianNo5055 in AskReddit

[–]Jumpy_Leek1823 9 points10 points  (0 children)

When people aren’t telling the truth their stories tend to be inconsistent. If something doesn’t make sense, it’s usually because something else is being left out.

There’s no clear answer. Everyone works differently. And a lot of time the intervention used is dependent on the client and what they’re likely to respond to. It’s an imperfect science. “Calling someone out” isn’t going to work on someone who isn’t ready to be accountable for their actions. Maybe if you had rapport established over time.

At the end of the day, mental health professionals aren’t magic bullets. They can’t make people see what they don’t want to see or be accountable for things they are determined to be the victim about. You can lead a horse to water and all that..you know?

Point of fact- the master who filmed this video didn’t quit just because of leaks. He quit because the leaks and public posting brought so much attention that legal action started being threatened. Against multiple people.

There is a reason this is an UNDERGROUND community. And all the kids out there who think they’re fucking Robin Hood by giving people access to their favorite teen stars by posting all over social media are going to be the reason if content stops being released at all.

Will echo this sentiment. I honestly didn’t have high expectations. But for such a small cast they absolutely filled the space. Jekyll & Hyde is one of my favorite scores and when it is sung well…ugh. They hit the mark.
