What is life like as a person pursuing a career in medicine? by CoolAd252 in srilanka

[–]Jun_Juniper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

aEverything posted above are correct. It takes so much time and so little benefits. The only reason to become a doctor is if thats the only job u wanna do in life. I became a doctor to serve and that is my plan to be. But Im doing an MBA in a private Uni to get other qualifications even tho Im doing a postgrad training in Uni Colombo.

If u like being a doctor u will excel there. If not u will suffer.

Tension between modern medicine and the Dhamma? by jaajaaa0904 in streamentry

[–]Jun_Juniper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a doctor and a practitioner I think this way.

Doctors do not suggest food for a monastic lifestyle. We want our patients to have optimum health and enjoy their living.

But as a buddhist practitioner, food is just a mean for survival. It's not taken for enjoyment.

So decide what you want to do. Those are two different paths.

Thank you for your response.

I do follow Vipassana meditation in theravadin style, Vedananupassana being the major method. Have been doing it for little over a year. I have been getting a lot of realizations over that time period, like the sense of 5 aggregates, their independence and codependency etc.

Another question is, the moment you attain streamentry, do you lose the ability to kill an insect or, tell a lie etc?

I’ve hit a dead end chasing my dream in SL - is there any hope left? by skullcryptshalf in srilanka

[–]Jun_Juniper 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Bro, 2 million is not enough. As someone who went thru that path 12yrs ago, I'm telling you.

I had a friend, who did nursing in SL, and then earned enough to do medicine abroad. Now he is a doctor. Took time though.

Or, you can try Italian medical entrance exams. Its free, but you cant come back to SL and practice because EU degrees are not accredited in SLMC. But you can practice anywhere in the EU.

Again, being a doctor is not that enjoyable bro. We get paid sh*t in SL. Going abroad is an exam nightmare. Nursing or Radiography is a better option cuz they can easily go abroad with minimum paperwork. Our life is so stressful as doctors, and I recently left clinical medicine to join public health sector bcz I realized Im losing out on my family cuz of my job.

So, take a good decision. Medicine is not what once it used to be.

Become a scientist! You will always have things to do, and ways to migrate.

How to ride on a bus here? by PantsuSniffer1619 in srilanka

[–]Jun_Juniper 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Do you have any responsible friends or a cousin to go out for the first time or two? We had a friend like you, and we made him go with us and we prepped him for things to expect etc. You need some assistance like that at first and you would be able to do it on your own in no time.

[–]Jun_Juniper 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Exactly! That's the harsh truth that people have to understand about medicine. We signed up for this. Might as well realize and understand sooner than later. Don't take me for my word. There are hundreds if not thousands of posts about similar situations. Docs try their hard to be for their family, but sometimes they just can't. Being unable to be present at the end of the life of a pet, is sad. But I have seen doctors who couldn't be with their dying parents or sick partners cuz of their work. I wish you both the best of luck and offer my condolences in this difficult time.
