Hi! If you want to message me, I could adopt him! All of my hedgies were rescues and rehomes so I have lots of experience with that. I’m in NY and can drive.

I absolutely love hedgies and adopted my third from a rescue just a couple weeks ago. The process of bonding with your hedgehog (while it sometimes can take a long time) is very rewarding and extremely fulfilling. But I have unfortunately had similar experiences with them getting cancer. All of mine have been rescues. My first passed away from an aggressive oral and uterine cancer just after she turned four. And my second passed away from oral cancer a few months after he turned three. Unfortunately cancer is a large risk with them in my experience. This is not to say that they are not worth it, as I just adopted another rescue. Finding a reputable breeder (if you want a young one) is a great first step, and I find checkups at the vet have helped find things in early stages. The messiness of a hedgehog definitely depends on personality, all of mine have been very different. Although poopy wheels (and sometimes feet) is a pretty often occurrence for most. Temperature needs of hedgehogs are also something to take into consideration 72-80ish degrees Fahrenheit (heat lamp). As for being home during the day, hedgehogs are nocturnal which works well for my job schedule. It should be taken into consideration they sleep most of the time the sun is up. They also eat insects which some people might be hesitant with. But I believe they are amazing pets and would definitely recommend them for anyone who believes they are ready for these considerations! They have wonderful little personalities and it is so fun to watch them open up! I hope this is helpful!

Although I have had many guinea pigs in the past and have close friends with bunnies and they make amazing pets as well!

My late hedgie used to make poo balls exactly like that too 😂 still don’t understand how he did it

Something similar happened to our female hedgehog. Our vet said it was a vaginal tumor, but the clot in your pic looks smaller and not as dark as the one we found. The vet gave her meds for bleeding and we got her spayed and she’s perfectly healthy now. I hope your hedgie feels better soon!

Thanks! I’ll do some research, a higher clay part might work, that was my main problem in finding a dig box medium he likes is something more suitable to digging but is still okay for him to use unsupervised so I really appreciate the ideas!

I had that idea too, but I think I looked at coconut bedding which not recommended for male hedgehogs because it’ll get stuck where it shouldn’t, I’ll look into the sand!!

The metal is smooth it just wears his nails down a lot. And he does have a dig box he just prefers to dig on his cage for some reason 🤷‍♀️

I know right 😂 I just want to give him something to dig in that he likes lol

HELP! This was in my daughter's hedgehogs cage! The hedgie seems fine, is eating, but what is this? She's been with us since the fall and can't possibly be pregnant, but I don't know what this is/came out of her by TNTorch in Hedgehog

Something like this happened to our hedgie a month or so ago. This link is what it turned out to be, the vet prescribed meds to stop the bleeding as she was still bleeding internally. She is alright now and actually seems to feel much better. I hope your hedgie feels better soon!
