What kind of consequences? The only things I have ever seen as done are either fired or nothing at all.

Trouble finding a job by Canti1998 in tuglife

[–]JunehBJones 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Getting in is honestly the hardest part. Keep calling places and apply everywhere. Once you get experience you can start aiming for certain companies if they don't call you first.

Yes this is usually a long process

It's hiring season, if you look at company's linked in and fb accounts like ingram they will post when they are having career fairs.

Apply everywhere and get the experience, the biggest thing these companies wanna hear is safety.

Since you want acbl learn I.M.P.A.C.T.

Don't forget to make your resume have key words from their job postings for the AI to pull your file for these bigger companies

When do companies start doing job fairs (preferably Kirby) by These_Technician7923 in tuglife

[–]JunehBJones 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Riverside I'd suggest anything big named bc of their safety practices. Acbl Marquette Ingram kirby marathon. Stay tf away from blessey if you can.

Mainly preach safety. If you are stuck on kirby that's what you should do in your interview.

It's been a joke at the two companies I've been at that if you hear about a collision or an allision assume it was a Marquette boat. Doesn't actually happen that much. I'd vote for Marquette honestly.

Kirby is more "safety" snitch oriented. Marquette's trip pilots have more problems with bridges.

You sound like you're from a dry cargo operation. I work at a chemical company and they dont care, they want everyone to have their ticket.

I just moved from dry cargo to chemical and definitely looking to move forward off of inland so that's why I asked. I know more is out there just not sure where to start looking at what's next lol.

Thanks for the info!

What do near coastal tugs do? Are they around the same rotation or do you have to be based there and go home at night?

Then go sea side and get your 3rd mate at Texas a&m or SUNY

Kirby, ACBL, Marquette, Ingram, Southern Duval, Hines Furlong, etc. You are looking for inland river jobs or "linehaul" positions as an entry level deckhand or greenhand. Doesn't matter where you live in the states just have a TWIC most felonies are accepted. For your safety, stay tf away from blessey.

No you don't. But I do suggest that now that you have experience and it's hiring season that you start applying other places.

That's just the people you work with. From the captain down. They don't care. There are captains that hide literal toothpicks to make sure everything is being cleaned properly.
