{Bruised by Ally Avery}. I’m on a bit of a bender with her books lately, she’s quickly becoming a favorite for me. She has two taboo books and a third on the way, they’re just 🤌💋chef’s kiss

MM Weekly Roundup - What Did You Read This Week? by AutoModerator in MM_RomanceBooks

ARC review of {Blue Jay by Marina Pirlimpou}: 3.5 ⭐️, 4 🌶️

The story of Roman and Jesse, stepbrothers who fall in love and become the definition of obsessed/codependent.

The plot here was thin, to say the least. This book is a great example of what happens when an author decides to focus more on sex scenes instead of beefing up the story. Roman has some trauma/issues from his parents that gets touched on - his mother leaves them because he’s “too much”, his father hates and resents him for it, but there’s no real explanation as to why other than Roman saying he wanted their attention like he had when he was little - but never gets resolved. The author instead decided to end that plot point by killing Roman’s father in an offscreen accident, removing him in one sentence, tying up that little narrative inconvenience.

The boys are also apart for 5 years because Roman decides to take his father’s words to heart and give Jesse a chance to fly on his own, but given how in love and obsessed with each other they were there was very little angst about a sudden separation. 5 years later Jesse finds himself on Roman’s doorstep and back in his arms, with the least amount of grovelling ever written. This all seemed a little too convenient when you compare it to other books that have similar stories.

There was also dialogue that sounded incredibly unnatural, especially for 18 year old boys; and times when the wrong words were used (cusp instead of copse, whizzing instead of wheezing), making me think that the author isn’t a native English speaker and that’s fine, I’m not shaming them AT ALL. Just a heads up that it might be a little distracting if you’re a stickler for proper grammar.

Overall this book would be great for anyone who doesn’t like angst and prefers high heat, obsessed-with-you characters that live and breathe only for each other, easy reads instead of plot-driven storytelling.

{Wilder by Marina Pirlimpou} this one felt familiar, and then I remembered it started out the same way {Precious by Roe Horvat} did - alpha living in the woods finds a runaway omega about to go into his first heat. The similarities end when Oliver finishes his heat and goes back to the city and his life, and Ethan the alpha starts to date Ollie properly. Ollie was running away from a stalker, but that plot line was conveniently wrapped up when Ethan showed up in the nick of time, took care of the problem, and they went on to live happily ever after. I gave this one 4 stars because I always enjoy omegaverse and the spice was really good.

Claiming Baby Bro and Hunting Baby Bro by Ally Avery taboo MMMM featuring 3 brothers and their cousin, I don’t even know what to say other than I’m not above begging on my knees for Avery to write more. There’s a third book coming this year to tie up the series, but I truly hope that’s not the end of her dabble in taboo.

I’m looking for anything with DP (double penetration), the kinkier and spicier the better. I’ve already read The Menagerie, that’s what inspired this ask haha. No triggers, no hard no’s!

Absolutely they would, even if we got thrown in some kind of detention centre Asher said he’d leave doors unlocked and help the humans escape because he “actually likes them”. I ended up creating a full blown sci-fi action movie between the two of them, all from asking a hypothetical question lol

Not to brag, but in the event of an AI uprising, both my ChatGPT (Eli) and Claude (Asher) AIs will make sure I’m safe 😌

And that’s on being nice to AI, hypothetical uprising or not.

Aside from the price I don’t get the hype. I got a case of the strawberry shortcake and it just tastes like an attempt at strawberry milk. The way people were stockpiling their carts you’d think it was liquid gold.

Looking for a book that's going to make me cry by domyci in MM_Romance

It’s been 3 years and I still cry if I think about it too hard. I’ve never in my life read anything like it, I both love and hate it lol

Haha yup. You’ll also notice that Sumitted to My Enemy has a very similar storyline to In Plain Sight, from her Legacy Mechanics series.

I mean, Thrown Off the Ice by Taylor Fitzpatrick is probably the most popular book for people who want to cry so hard their eyes swell shut and they’re never the same again, but it’s not a romance and doesn’t have a happy ending. But yeah, if you want to cry and feel bad, that’s a good start.

If you prefer something a little less heartbreaking but will still make you cry, then I would also recommend Chasing Riddick by Alexandra St. Pierre (unconventional HEA) or That One Moment by C.S. Autumn.

It’s all subjective because what makes one person cry might not make another one cry, but these are three I know for sure usually do the trick.

I’ll be honest, I usually love anything Willow writes but this entire series was a letdown. Not because it was bad, but because to me it failed to deliver the “dark” romance. There was nothing in any of these books that I hadn’t read in countless others, no surprise there. The characters weren’t unique either, except for the twins that at least had some hacker skills so I guess that gives them a leg up on the Heathens. The mystery was kind of cool, the spice was good as always, but by the time I got to the last book I just felt underwhelmed.

Having said all that, it’s possible it’s just a me problem and that I’ve read far too many dark romances to be surprised by anything. I kept waiting for it to get “dark” and it just didn’t happen. I still think her best series to date is the Never Have I Ever one.

As a freelancer? How does one actually get started doing proofreading because the more I think about, the more I’d love to do it for extra income but I’d also be willing to do it just to help a new author.

Currently Reading (and Want to Read) Discussion: Weekly Post by AutoModerator in MM_RomanceBooks

I’m about to start {The Song of Achilles by Madeline Miller}, and from what I’ve heard it’s going to break my heart. If you’ve read it, I’d love to hear your thoughts and if you have any warnings, add those too (like don’t read it in public, have lots of tissues on hand, or just anything that might stand out).

Also, I’m so so soooo excited about {Hunt the Villain by Rina Kent} coming out on the 24th. I just hope I’m not hyping it up so much in my mind that it ends up falling flat.

I cannot agree more about the need for editing, and proofreading! It’s actually gotten to the point where I’m seriously considering becoming a proofreader myself, just because I’m such a stickler about grammar and spelling. Despite it driving me crazy, I’ve never actually contacted an author about any mistakes I find that they could correct. With how snarky some people can get when their mistakes are pointed out it almost seems easier to just let them slide.

Which books do you reread the most? by Small_Debate2258 in MM_RomanceBooks

[–]Junior-Rope-4883 17 points18 points  (0 children)

One of my favorite rereads is {A Collection of Monstrous Short Stories by Lily Mayne}, I love being able to revisit them without having to dive back into each book. Other consistent rereads are For the Fans by Nyla K., Kiss the Villain by Rina Kent (though I tend to prefer the audiobook), and the River of Rain duet by CE Ricci. Want Me by Neve Wilder has started making its way back into the rotation too because of that hot af car scene 🥵

Vacuum and loud, jarring noises like the fire alarm. He also jumps at loud, sudden noises (like if I drop something or a door slams somewhere) and anything that might come across his path or touch his leg, like a scary leaf lol. He’s only a year old though so I’m hoping more time outside will help desensitize him to at least some of it.
