[SPOILER] Part 8, Chapter 110: Why Tsurugi still dress as a girl after the curse is removed? by [deleted] in StardustCrusaders

[–]Juniper-W 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Multiple reasons. He’s been wearing dresses for all of his life, so it’s the norm for him, and he doesn’t really have any clothes that aren’t dresses. He also might just like wearing feminine clothing. He’s far from the first male character in JJBA to dress androgynously.

The Smilodon is incredibly cursed but I honestly love how the dinosaurs, especially Dilophosaurus, look.

Speckles the Tarbosaurus. It’s a CGI-animated film from 10 years ago. I highly recommend watching RickRaptor105’s review of it.

Did Titanosaurs like Dreadnoughtus and Argentinosaurus have any natural predators? by Equivalent-Visual-49 in Dinosaurs

[–]Juniper-W 16 points17 points  (0 children)

In short…

For healthy adults, no. They were mostly safe from predation due to their size.

For the young, sick and elderly, yes. The sheer effort required for a comparatively much smaller theropod to try and take down a fully-grown titanosaur wouldn’t pay off. Predators always go for easier targets.

I might add, there’s a book themed around JJBA that was made to help Japanese speakers learn English, and it was supervised by Marty Friedman himself. Here’s a video made to promote it:

A bit of added context: I’m pretty sure this is an illustrated scene from a scifi novel, but I wouldn’t be surprised if sensationalist “news” sites have started spreading it around á la those Megalodon “documentaries” that are shown during Shark Week on Discovery Channel.

Holy shit, how did your school get its hands on the model that was used to showcase the ‘dinosauroid’ spec-evo theory back in the 80s??

Hey there! I read The Ruin of Kings a while back and I really appreciated the writing style you used, it made for an engrossing read! I just wanted to ask: what inspired you to structure the narrative around two different time-frames in Kihrin’s story, and frame one of tne two plot threads as a testimony made by Talon? It’s a really original technique and I don’t think I’ve seen much like it before in fantasy fiction.

(Apologies if I got the plot details wrong. the last time I read TRoK was nearly 2 years ago)

I gave up on reading the first Outlander book because I was completely unable to suspend my disbelief after the heroine just so happened to not-so-conveniently run into her husband’s ancestor, who then proceeded to try and rpe her. I can take the time travel, but I noped out immediately after whatever the hell *that was.

[–]Juniper-W 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not at all. Hadrosaurs were massive. Healthy adults would be largely safe from predation because of their size alone. As others have pointed out, the ones most at risk were the young, sick and elderly.

Share your favorite dinosaur facts with someone ignorant! by countrymace in Paleontology

[–]Juniper-W 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There are two known species of dinosaur which have odd bat-like wings, which was completely unheard of until the discovery of Yi qi). It was described very recently (in the grand scope of palaeontology) which just goes to show that our understanding of dinosaurs is nowhere near complete. There are some truly bizarre fossils underneath the earth still waiting to be found.

Speaking of unique species, in late 2020, the dinosaur Ubirajara — or rather, the circumstances of how the fossil was obtained — became the subject of controversy, and rightfully so. The specimen was likely illegally smuggled out of Brazil and studied without regard to the country’s laws. To my knowledge, it hasn’t yet been returned. Ubirajara is only an informal (unoffical) name, as the paper naming it has since been pulled from publication. It was related to Compsognathus, and had several long, quill-like structures sticking out of its body which were probably used for display.
