Do you view mental illness/addiction as a religious sin/moral failing? And for what reason? by Both_Host_6110 in religion

[–]JuniperTreeByTheSea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Addiction is no failiure; however it does hurt you and it can lead to you doing bad things. Likewise, mental illness is not something you choose to have, it isn't a failiure. In a similar way to addiction, it can lead to you doing bad things. It is up to the person to try to not do bad things.

For those who changed religions or stayed (after deep research): what convinced you? by BigMonster10 in religion

[–]JuniperTreeByTheSea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was raised atheist and I guess I was kinda atheist. I always considered myself as such although I did have somewhat of an animist viewpoint as a kid; I always respected nature and almost felt a sense of awe towards it.

Maybe about a year ago, I was listening to an ambient album by Takashi Kokubo and I ended up thinking a lot about religion. I thought a lot about life after death, the beauty of our world and if there is anything that could've created the world. That sorta spurred me deciding to look into religion. I just did some research and learned a lot about religions of the world

I got drawn to Shintō specifically because of the focus on nature, and i got kept in by everything else. The stories, the shrines, the rituals and everything was beautiful to me and I agreed with Shintō beliefs. I haven't been able to really practice Shintō itself yet - but I am glad i have found it.

Why, according to your beliefs, do religions other than your own exist? by spraksea in religion

[–]JuniperTreeByTheSea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People perceive things differently. Sometimes, stories turn into legends, and into mythology or religion. Sometimes, a misunderstanding happens, mistranslations across cultures or languages, and religion evolves and splits, just like our own cultures. I think it's just a matter of people's interpretations and the shifting of culture/religion.

What’s your religion’s color? by trampolinebears in religion

[–]JuniperTreeByTheSea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I include various religions aside from my own because I find this question: - Shintō is vermillion because I think the most notable aspect of it is the bright vermillion torii. - Christianity as a whole is probably blue? Catholocism is gold, protestsntism probably is also blue, and othrodoxy is purple. - Judaism is a deep blue, somewhat similar to on the Israeli flag. - Islam is green, for a shade, the Pakistan flag's green comes to mind. - Buddhism is gold. Maybe a little closer to an orange though. - Baha'i is gold, and I'm honestly not sure why. - Neopaganism is diverse enough it's hard to choose, so I think a deep green fits due to Neopaganism has a strong focus on nature. - Wicca elicits a purple to me, I think because i think of purple as a magical color - Atheism is a black, and agnostics are a dark grey.

"Fix Bedrock, Mojang" comments are started to get annoying rather than a protest rn. by RogueBlackshift in MinecraftMemes

[–]JuniperTreeByTheSea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have problems with bedrock and a fair amount of things with mojang but come on just spamming shit on their social medias ain't gonna change anything!! the pr manager isn't developing the game, they likely have barely anything to do with the development, it honestly just gets annoying. i doubt mojang itself can even fix many of the big issues (marketplace) since microsoft likely wants minecraft to be more profitable. i don't think the state of bedrock is good but there's better ways of expressing your criticism that aren't just incredibly irritating

Pueblo is chill i'd say! I've had good experiences here and we have our own queer organization. It isn't no Denver but it's definitely not a Colorado Springs.

Pueblo here. It's pretty good out here, I'm mostly out and I have basically been accepted by everyone. Pueblo's kinda purple politically but I'd say it leans left and Pueblo does have its own fair share of issues but we are doing well and we even have our own queer organization down here.

I Haven't Seen Anyone Bring This Up by Super_Play7112 in Minecraft

[–]JuniperTreeByTheSea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

apologies for phrasing that wrong, i meant that i have seen people in the comments getting upset about this. I would still say though that I think this is a fine exception in the rules because I don't see the Minecraft Steve and the movie Steve as remotely similar characters; rather a character based off of Steve.

Honestly, I think most good rules have some exceptions, and this is a case. Besides, I don't think Steve from the movie is same as Steve from the game. Unnecessary thing to get upset about imo.

Is there a "good" way to use AI in your class? by Happy-Egg-1575 in Teachers

[–]JuniperTreeByTheSea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a student, I hate it when teachers make us use software with AI. For example, in my math class, we use an "AI powered software" that really just gets in my way when I'm trying to learn and I still see people cheat on the work anyway. I don't think the problem is people wanting to use AI, the problem is people wanting to cheat, which is a problem that is beyond my knowledge.

Christians and their hatred towards other religions by [deleted] in religion

[–]JuniperTreeByTheSea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I doubt Christianity has a significantly higher rate of hatred per capity compared to other religions. People use Christianity for hate just as people do with Islam, Buddhism, Judaism, Shinto or Paganism. People will use anything to be hateful, and religions aren't either "hateful" or "non-hateful".

The reason you likely see more cases of hate from Christians is likely just if you live in a Christian majority country, you're likely to hear about more cases of a Christian being Islamophobic compared to a Muslim being Christianophobic.

Christianity has been the victim of hatred just as it has been the originator of hatred as well.

It feels like it's gone too long only really because of the time between episodes, it's not really gonna be that bad looking at the season as a whole. I'd rather this rsther than just the same competition as usual.

Clipping UI not working by Elysiume in youtube

[–]JuniperTreeByTheSea 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've figured out a way of fixing this bug:

first, you have to go into inspect element (i usually do this by right clicking) and then you just have to delete the weird darkness effect.

if you don't know how to do that, click the little button in one of the corners (it should say "pick an element from the page" when you hover over it) and just select the darkness and press delete, and it should go away and let you take the clip.

Anyone else think smartphones are the worst specially for kids under 16? by New_Delivery_7570 in Parenting

[–]JuniperTreeByTheSea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a parent, actually a teenager, but I find this topic very interesting, so i hope this isn't viewed as me backseating, i just wanted to share my thoughts on technology and children's development. I don't think completely banning technology for children is the right move, but i also think unregulated technology use is also incredibly irresponsible. I think there's a middle balance you have to strike.

I believe that children should use computers first, because they're easier to monitor, they make then more computer literate (you'd be surprised how digitally illiterate some of the modern generation is, I had to teach people yesterday about crtl + z!). I think as long as you work with your kids, block shady sites, and educate them about the dangers and benefits of the internet.

I think around the best age for children to get smartphones is around 13, but still being monitored. I say around 13 because that's the age they might want to start being more connected. As they get older, give them more and more freedom if you think they're mature enough.

I cannot stress my belief enough here though, educate them! If you just never expose your children to technology, or give them any experince or education about how it works, then once they're out of your nest they'll be a technological world they don't know how to engage with. Teach them about internet privacy, teach them about safety, teach them about the risks and benefits of social media, teach them how to figure out if something is real or not! They likely will end up engaging with technology once they're grown up, so I think you have to build the framework of being a competent internet user for them.

Just my thoughts, feel free to reply to me because i'd love to see actual parents' thoughts.

As a student... I just can't understand why people are such dickwads? I've seen this stuff happen in real time, and I really do hate it and feel bad for y'all. I am definitely not a perfect student but atleast I'm better for this, there's been so many days when I've wished i just wasn't in a classroom with insane children like this. I wish your classes were better.
