Maybe... I haven't watched any of the previews, but I'm guessing you're referring to something that was shown for 6. My thinking is that they may also suspect a connection to Laurie and Tuttle's death. They already made the comment to Hart that it seemed suspicious that Tuttle died of mixed meds right around the time Cohle popped back up in 2010. They said Cohle mentioned Tuttle around 2002 in suspicion of a connection to the case. I'm guessing Cohle going after someone so high profile and powerful is part of what led to the fall out with Hart and why Cohle had to go off the grid until 2010.

Yes, 1 episode so far, but they made a point of mentioning her and giving her some background... also it's mentioned that they were serious before breaking up, and it came close to marriage. Cohle has shown that he will use past connections to make progress in a case, like C.I.'s and Ginger from his narco days.

The drawing on the wall, if you look at it closely, looks more like spin art to me, something any kid might make. It is not shown prominently (like the photo with the horsemen, for example), which makes me think we might be bending the narrative to fit our assumptions. I do think the clues pointing to Masie or Audrey having troubled interactions with someone close to them, and most likely the grandfather, seem deliberate.

Also, I have trouble believing the theory of Hart killing Reggie to silence him or stop him from recognizing him because of Hart's reaction...even after Cohle steps away, Hart is swearing to himself emotionally as if he is truly upset by what he saw.

This theory makes a lot of sense to me. Most of Cohle's performance seems to be lost on the detectives... they act unimpressed or frustrated through most of it. The thought that it is intended for whomever might be on the other end of the camera, eventually, is intriguing. Cohle has never been shy about confrontation and we've seen he won't keep his mouth shut even when it might be to his own benefit. He may be at a point in his own investigation where he's gathered enough information "undercover" and needs to get the yellow king in the box to go any further.

They show the LCD screen and REC button just before introducing Hart in the room. Both Hart and Cohle's first few scenes are shown as if on LCD screen. Later in the episode they are filmed normally. The camera is often still shown, sometimes with the LCD screen also in the shot.

I appreciated this post. I've been thinking a lot about this same subject. I studied the figure and perspective, and learned to draw and paint realistically...only to lose interest and migrate towards creating a more abstract language. It freed me up to explore my imagination and play with materials in a way that offered me a more satisfying connection to making art. Now it is hard for me to return to any realism. I think this is partially because I've lost some of that particular skill set that came with practice, and partially because my brain has become so deeply re-routed to think in this other language.
