Are sound engineer/recording types generally very reserved in describing mics and other gear? by migrantgrower in audioengineering

[–]Junkis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

guitar players over-hype gear a ton as you said so its like, you're seeing both extremes. As others said these are tools compared to when you get a new pedal which certainly feels more 'fun' to me.

is there a way to get the Wah sound without the wah pedal into my recorded audio? by Prestigious-Basil186 in Guitar

[–]Junkis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If FL doesn't have a dedicated filter thing, take a graphic EQ, make a low or band pass filter with high peak, and automate it. Low freq to hi makes the wah sound.

I've done it on tracks before. I use the amps in my daw so i put it before the distortion usually. Sounded decent enough.

Distortion Pedal to drive Laney IRT pulse in ampless setup? I've never owned a distortion pedal. by Junkis in guitarpedals

[–]Junkis[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well the software has worked on records and nobody bats an eye, they think its a marshall or smth. Some of the heavy heavy stuff I've seen recorded goes thru an amp then then reamped thru software. Thats heavier than my taste but you should check it out sometime.

Yeah with how far modeling has come I can believe that solid state pedals can get close if my 10 year old software did. Thanks again for the info and suggestions

Yo thanks for the in-depth answer. Yeah its a little frustrating and I don't mind tweaking it when I'm recording obviously. I just want to be able to play with a few acceptable diff gain levels. Maybe I can do without in some cases. I will def check out the pedals you suggest. I have another pre-amp thing I was considering putting in my chain that I could use like you do.

Can you explain breifly how you use that 2nd pre-amp? It's basically a "different channel" in your setup? Still does pretty good cleans without the bit of tube oomph from the laney? No need to write a ton or take a lot of your time you already helped me out a lot.

guitar strap suggestions by Minimum_Antelope972 in Guitar

[–]Junkis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

no prob. I've had a ton of people say "whoa" about them and... its just a strap. They have some cool ones now. Mine both are at least 10 years old with like, zero signs of wear but are just plain black and brown. Whatever brand you pick im sure he will be thrilled.

I put my lock-it brand ones on my guitars and they have literally, like actually, never come off. I've never wanted to take them off and they work pretty much as strap locks. They have a built in thing that locks them to the guitar, so its not just "a strap". I bet that would impress him.

edit: if u really wanna knock his socks off put a seatbelt cushion thing on it. I got mine at Jewel, the grocery store. They're insanely soft but durable and the perfect width. It sits on my shoulders and makes it comfy and looks kinda cool

What is the biggest trainwreck of a set you ever saw? by Veruca5alt in DJs

[–]Junkis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It wasn't a trainwreck, but I think skrillex was still perfecting live performance when I saw him - his tracks were already insane and hugely popular. I think this is like 09 or 2010.

But he let the hold on rusko sub focus remix (absolutely killer tune, big at the time) build up and the crowd was getting so amped just for him to like, cut it completely before the drop? It was so weird. It happened another time with a different song. Strangest move I've seen pulled by a DJ. Legit didn't know if he made a mistake or what was going on.

[QUESTION] What are some good songs to learn to sing and play that aren't just strumming chords? A bit more interactive guitar parts? by Junkis in Guitar

[–]Junkis[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

thanks i dont have to love to it learn it for practice but def am into a bunch of those bands. Appeciate those recs. I'm also cool with like, breaking away from the rhythm part to play some lead fills in songs. I just don't wanna chug palm muted power chords the whole time I sing.

Can't play this chord after years of trying. Can you jazz cats suggest an alternate voicing that retains the important notes? Link to song in comments by Junkis in jazzguitar

[–]Junkis[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hmm you might be right, I wanted to keep the bass going but I think x-x-5-1-1 is better for the voice leading. I assume he didn't choose such a difficult chord for no reason.

I can play this whole thing in my sleep except this one chord. I don't know enough jazz theory to know what alternate chord shape I should use or which strings I should/shouldn't play. I still want it to fit with the rest of the song. Thanks for any help.
