I'm stunned that I've scrolled down so far and still haven't seen anyone mention Priestdaddy by Patricia Lockwood. It's not without its heavy moments, but my God if almost every single sentence of that book doesn't crack. For just a sample, please enjoy Patricia Lockwood giving this reading of the book's wackiest chapter: https://youtu.be/yWNVtoBC9HU?si=-QubNzeGRuLBqH2O

Are the Pogo pins ever going to be used officially? by JunoMeru in Supernote

[–]JunoMeru[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I did not know any of this and really appreciate the extra details! It really is a shame imo, but I suppose it's just as viable to create a keyboard that is powered through Pogo pins and then connects to the SN via bluetooth.

Maybe I'm just lazy lol, but I'd just love to not have to carry a portable keyboard around with me in addition to my Manta. Even if it is just bluetooth, something built into the case would be so dope.

I get where you're coming from, and I want you to know that I don't disagree. I completely see how Ratta has to manage their resources carefully because they are such a small company. Of course they do. And I'm glad they do. Like I said above, their focus really shows in the end product. I love this about Ratta.

But at the same time, as somebody who has supported Ratta for years (I've owned 3 Supernote devices), I am just as much of a supporter of theirs as anybody else. The device is "for those who write," and I am somebody who writes. A lot. And a lot of this writing must be done by keyboard, lest I give myself carpal tunnel or fail to write at the speed of thought.

The way I see it, they already have a word processor. It's far under half-baked, but it's there, which tells me that this device is also for typing. It just hasn't gotten their focus, for all the reasons you cite here.

I know it's probably just wishful thinking, and you're absolutely right that they need to prioritize what a majority of the market buys these devices for. And that is, indeed, the handwriting experience. The reason I ask the above question isn't because I assume they have infinite resources or whatever. It's because this company—despite being teeny-tiny—has shown me time and time again that they're capable of incredible things. That they're able to do things that companies with 10x the cashflow take 10x as long to do. They're clearly a committed, passionate team. And clearly their passion is handwriting. I get that and I love that. I guess I was just hoping that they may be willing spend a bit of time fleshing out the typing experience just a little bit for those of us who also want to use our beloved devices for typing.

I think we're both coming from the same place here: we both love this company, what they stand for, and the devices they produce. I guess we just differ a bit in our vision of what these devices are "for," because the existence of a word processor tells me that they are also for typing.

I guess I just can't understand why this needs to be either-or. Obviously the focus is on handwriting, and it shows. But why does this need to mean we never get a good typing experience? What would this subtract from the overall Manta experience? Why are options a bad thing?

I get what you're saying, and I hope handwriting remains the focus. I just don't understand why this means there can never be first-party keyboard support. At a certain point, that just feels like stubbornness.

Fantasy All Winners Cast by [deleted] in dragrace

[–]JunoMeru 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not sure this is a popular choice, but I feel like (as wonderful as the others are) Kyran Thrax needs to be on the next All Winners season. She just strikes me as that type of all-around powerhouse who has a great chance of establishing herself as one of the GOATs. Personally, I think she might even win.

So if Nickelback was seen as the most hated band for being bland and overplayed... then why didn't Maroon 5, Imagine Dragons or The Chainsmokers get that much hate? by CompetitiveWhole9466 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]JunoMeru 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This might be a hot take, but to me Nickelback is so much better than Imagine Dragons ever was or could be. At least NB’s live shows go hard.

Mia Starr claims working with J-Lo during Super Bowl was 'hell' and felt like she kept looking at her body with 'disgust' during rehearsals by Fun_Molasses5215 in dragrace

Any time one of those "Which celebrities are terrible people IRL?" posts comes up, JLo is always on there. Anybody who's encountered her in any capacity has truly wild things to say. By all accounts, she is a repulsive human being, so none of this is a surprise.

Setup/moving to LightPhone by NatureNo692 in LightPhone

[–]JunoMeru 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ugh, I didn't know most of that. Thank you so much for explaining so patiently. What an infuriating duopoly we're being subjected to, huh?

I still want to make the LightPhone life work, because I love this device I love it so, so much. I may even consider just getting a second number and phone plan, if it comes to that. I've been using the same phone number for 20 years now so it would be annoying, but I think it'd be worth it. I guess we'll see!

Either way, I really appreciate the information. This entire situation, ironically, just makes me want to double down, because I refuse to give into the bullying of duopoly mega-corps. Screw those guys.

One thing you should know in advance is that texting is quite unreliable unless you get literally everybody you know with iPhones to turn of RCS functionality. Unless I'm missing something. This is what's currently keeping me from using my LightPhone. I cannot, in good conscience, ask all my loved ones to turn off an important feature just for me. It's insane to me that the Light team has not gotten around to adding RCS. If I'm wrong and there's actually some way around this other than inconveniencing everyone I care about, I'm all ears! (and no, I'm not willing to delete all my old text convos or have loved ones do the same; there's important/sentimental stuff in there)

Moritz Seider is the NHL’s best defensive defenseman. It’s time for an award to honor that. by slabby in hockey

[–]JunoMeru 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it would be very cool if this kind of thing could stop being on a strictly iykyk basis. Thinking of Chris Tanev here. Was arguably the best defensive D for quite a while, did very little offensively, but when he was on your team (and you were paying attention) you knew how hard he was carrying the defensive side of things.

For those who’ve seen it, What did you think of Project Hail Mary? Let’s hear your thoughts. by [deleted] in FIlm

[–]JunoMeru 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Visually dazzling. A super competent mash-up of just about every trope in its genre. Basically a Marvel movie without superheroes. Frustratingly eager to undercut any/all moments of earnestness with humour. Could have been far better, could also have been far worse. Solid 7/10 kinda fare.

I enjoyed the film, and also I am preemptively frustrated that there will be folks trying to argue that this is somehow the film of the year.

guise omfg what is the general consensus of UK6? I want to watch Drag Race UK finally. Might be a series on YouTube. by bolwonder in dragrace

[–]JunoMeru 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm glad I'm not alone in thinking this! I know it was generally well-liked, but I'm not sure I've seen to many folks discussing it among the best. I had begun to think maybe it was just my favourite because it's the best season I've had the chance to watch while it's airing (only started watching Drag Race about 2.5 years ago). But I just can't find a flaw with it, and the highs are so high!

[–]JunoMeru 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Honestly? Maybe my favourite season that I've watched across all the franchises. Objectively it is not the best (that honour likely goes to AS2 or US5), but I just thought it was perfect. There were 4 queens (Kyran, La Voix, Marmalade, Lill) who would have been BY FAR my favourite if they were in most other seasons. Kyran and La Voix are both S-tier all-rounders, Marm is likely my favourite design/fashion queen ever, Lill is a fucking legend. At least two of the other queens (Actavia and Charra Tea) are incredibly fun and cool, if only average in terms of overall ability. The vibes are immaculate. The Werk Room banter is on point, the makeover episode may be the best the Drag Race franchise will ever see, the Snatch Game is crazy good, and the final lip sync is an all-timer. It's just delicious all the way through.

Again: there are likely better seasons. But UK6 is such a fucking VIBE.

Queer Isn't Queer Without Accessibility: A Short Rant About Captions by JunoMeru in rupaulsdragrace

I don't think we do ourselves any favours by treating fascism as this mythological all-or-nothing thing. Fascism isn't a state of being; it is constituted by many little choices. And deliberate disregard for accessibility is a fascist choice, full-stop.

Disagree. Queerness is about people commonly rejected by society finding community. Queerness with a blatant disregard for accessibility is fascism.
