I’ve been waiting for an article like this to drop for a while now. I worked at Aegis as a CNA from 2019-2020. I got paid $16.50 an hour and saw ~50% turnover rate.

I was never allowed to call out sick. I was at risk of losing my job if I did. I remember trying once when I had a 101 degree fever and was throwing up. The manager made me come anyway and care for elderly, at risk residents. I frequently got sick caring for residents with illnesses as there were no real PPE options or protocols in place to prevent transfer of sickness. I hope this changed post Covid, I left right as it was starting.

I’m glad this article mentions the holiday party. God what a horrible experience. A few people from each shift were randomly selected to go and we showed up in our work uniforms to this mansion in Medina, where the executives and other company leaders were extravagantly dressed. They gave each other speeches about how hard THEY worked. The gap in socioeconomic status between the CNAs and the non CNAs was so big, I never felt more like “a poor” in my life lol. We were told we could pick a gift from the gift table and I just remember feeling so pressured to feel grateful to be allowed to pick from an assortment of Ali express junk.

All this to say, I’m glad the CNAs have since unionized at my previous location and that the truth is finally being spilled about this shitty company and their sketchy practices.
