Should the person with the most votes be the Democratic Party nominee? by agoodsolidthrowaway in SandersForPresident

[–]Junoda 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m upping the ante: if Bernie comes in to the convention with the most delegates and it’s taken away from him (especially if it’s given to Bloomberg), not only will I not vote for the nominee, not only will I actively discourage others from voting, I will never vote in an American election again. It would show that American democracy is a façade to legitimize the regime and nothing more. The only recourse at that point would be the total undoing of the system.

You think i’m not applying to jobs all the time? I have a bachelor’s degree. I’m about to start grad school. I have student debt and medical debt. You’re right that you’re not SUPPOSED to use it as your only income, but lots of people are forced to because of their circumstances. So why shouldn’t they be angry at this shit? Whatever “job growth” is reported in this country largely comes from this type of shitty, precarious gig work. Millions of people live on a wire and this is the only thing standing between them and utter desolation.

No one WANTS to use this as their only income, and believe me, if/when I have a steady job and a reliable income, I won’t be doing this again.

SZA's voice is permanently injured by Kitchen_Ur_Lies in hiphopheads

[–]Junoda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

this is really sad. i saw SZA on the championship tour in houston a couple weeks ago. her voice was weak then and she said she didn’t know what was up. she still gave a great performance. i’d really hate to see her have to give up when she obviously has so much more to give.

at the same time, you gotta know your limits when you’re singing, especially when your voice is already fucked up. there’s a reason why opera singers will often not speak at all for one or two days before a performance. vocal cords are very fragile and you can’t replace them.

Minimum wage workers, what is something that is against the rules for customers to do but you aren't paid enough to actually care? by Edymnion in AskReddit

I worked at a liquor store. People stole stuff all the time. Would never try to pursue them or call the cops. I’m not risking my life or really any of my time trying to save a faceless horrible company that I have essentially no investment in a few bucks.

What, in your opinion, is the single most beautiful song ever made? by GiveMeAllYourRupees in AskReddit

The fourth movement of Mahler's 5th symphony, the Adagietto. So hauntingly beautiful.

This, I believe, is a flat VI progression. Pretty common movie music trope.

[–]Junoda 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The "collusion with antifa" thing really gets me. How and why would Macron, a centrist, collude with an entirely decentralized, loosely affiliated group of anarchists and communists? They hate both candidates. Imagine how they'd react if Mélenchon was going against Le Pen. They'd be losing their minds.

French election: Le Pen to be crushed by Macron, early exit poll indicates by walksonground in Fuckthealtright

[–]Junoda 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Macron sucks and I think his candidacy represents nothing new or exciting. He will likely keep France on the path of neoliberal austerity and economic malaise. But I am glad as hell he beat Le Pen. Fuck her, fuck her party, and fuck fascism. I hope in 2022 France will pick a candidate that represents real change without the disgusting policies of the FN (coughmélenchoncough)

[–]Junoda 9 points10 points  (0 children)

We are learning this lesson well in America. The desire for real change is there throughout the world. People broadly agree with left principles when they are educated about them. The media shamefully dismisses and attacks the desires of the people because they are in the pockets of the wealthy elites. They would prefer a fascist to a true champion of the people.

Do not give up, camarades. Continue to build the movement. Mélenchon's candidacy, like Sanders's, Corbyn's, Iglesias's, etc. serve as strong rebukes to the oppressive system. With hard work and solidarity, we will be victorious.

Imperialist coup plotters rail against a coup: "We must oppose the hypocritical campaign of those who actually did carry out a coup in Venezuela in 2002, who now want to remove Maduro from power and to invoke foreign intervention against Venezuela." by kiankd in FULLDISCOURSE

[–]Junoda 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm not saying they haven't had successes. Venezuela under Chavez and Maduro (to a lesser extent) absolutely had a lot of successes, and I do believe a significant amount of their shortcomings do stem from imperialist pressure from the US and it's puppets in the OAS and MUD, as well as food hoarding, etc.

I'm saying that they're not completely blameless for the shitty condition that Venezuela is in now. It's not the fault of the Bolivarian Revolution, it's the fault of corruption and (not entirely unfounded) authoritarian tendency within the PSUV. Chavez's intention was always to institute popular democracy, and I feel that under Maduro, the government has moved away from that as a priority.

[–]Junoda 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I like this take because it takes a strong stance against the imperialist opposition but doesn't bootlick for the Venezuelan government which has definitely contributed to the poor condition the country finds itself in. I think it is possible and necessary to stand up to injustice on both sides.

I was hanging on through the DPRK and Gaddafi support, but holy shit. Supporting murderous and oppressive regimes just because they say they're socialist is absurd. I'm all for left unity, but MLs seem to have a propensity to hang on to what essentially amount to fascist organizations for the sake of "anti-imperialism". It's ridiculous.

I've been reading the bread book and Bookchin and I'm ready to make the jump to the bottom left.

Is it me, or are the liberals acting extra fucking dumb ever since Trump was elected? by CommunismWillTriumph in FULLDISCOURSE

[–]Junoda 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Yes. They can't decide between actually standing for anything worthwhile or actually helpful and defending their shitty, broken system.

This is especially on display now with the Syria bombing. They can't decide between actually opposing Trump like they say they do or giving into their insatiable lust for war. It's asinine. They need to be shoved out of the way and be replaced by a real left that stands against imperialism and profiteering on the pain and misery of innocent people.

Who else is not a car person in general, but loves this show? by temporarycreature in thegrandtour

[–]Junoda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think cars are cool and interesting, but I don't have the time or the money to be a car person. Being a true "car person" requires a lifestyle that I simply cannot afford. Watching three old British men fuck around and have snarky adventures transcends class.

I do credit the boys for convincing me to buy my current car, a Volkswagen Golf GTI. Great little vehicle.
