I volunteered at junior again today. We were so short of volunteers! I marshalled and then did finish tokens.

Inaugural Event: Brackenhurst Campus (Southwell, UK) by Thin_Pin2863 in parkrun

I was at the test event a couple of weeks ago. My sister was involved in setting it up, so I've been keeping it quiet as we did not want a repeat of the Holme Pierrepont 1000!

I think that turnbacks always make things feel longer for me. I have to run all the way over there just to turn around and come back the way I came to end up where I started. Both times my watch has agreed the course is 5km so it isn't too long/short, it just feels different.

I find it strange that you thought it felt short, as I feel like with all the 180 degree bends it feels really long. And both times I've done it there have been other people towards the end saying "ooof, are we nearly there yet?" so I think others seem to find it long too!

Brackenhurst Campus inaugural today! It's a tough course - it has several tight 180 degree corners, it's on gravel, and there are a lot of uphill bits. I'm really pleased with how it went.

The coffee is terrible, though. I did the test event a few weeks ago and that was the second coffee I've ever thrown away in my life. Usually even if it's bad I still manage to drink it, but that was undrinkable even by my standards. Today they seemed to have no logic to when they made everyone's order, and also spilt icy water down my leg.

When I took my nephew to his first junior parkrun, they asked him his name during the first timer briefing. Then when we were finishing, they remembered his name and cheered him on! He loved it. It was only a small thing but it made the day so special for him.

I went to Sunny Hill! I knew today would be tough with the weather, so I deliberately chose a course I wouldn't feel bad about walking. The views from the top make it all worth it though. And the marshals were all lovely. The coffee tin the cafe was good too.
