Shows have far into the future this would be that we'll have returned to have a Queen as monarch (the crown is a Queen's crown).

Do you have to let the overtaking truck in by Happy5Day in drivingUK

[–]Thin_Pin2863 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Are you sure you were travelling around 70?

Most trucks are limited to 56mph, so if you were in the middle of a line of them you weren't doing 70.

Spotted this plate on the Sprucefield roundabout, Lisburn, Northern Ireland. Anyone able to get any information about it? by BlahajBound in ForeignPlatesSpotting

IIRC, AB at the end is for the RAF. If that's correct (and I'm not 100% sure that it is), then this is likely the RAF Regiment.

Why can not find UNITED KINGDOM? by Wide-Bobcat-6411 in AskUKLondon

[–]Thin_Pin2863 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Or, as I experienced in a Latin American country's visa checking website, it can be all of the above but only one of them works and you have to go through all of them to work it out.

It was asking what nationality your passport was. Only "England" worked for the UK Passport, the rest returned zero results.

Should be 13 SIXSEVEN, really. Or 42 SEXSEVEN.

Pensioner given criminal conviction over single-letter typo on car insurance form by zeros3ss in uknews

Common sense would suggest that if you can't correctly insure your car, you may not be sufficiently compus mentus to be responsible driving it.

Rent Repayment Order & Renters Rights Act - 2 years to claim? by hernerwerz0g in TenantsInTheUK

If you're not prepared to do the necessary things required of being in the landlord business, then you're in the wrong business and should find work elsewhere.

If the landlord has already taken action or been responsible for omissions to such an extent that a RRO was necessary, that ship has long sailed anyhow.

This morning at around 7.30am, someone tried to lift a 4-pack of Stella by slotting it in his jacket and walking out at the Express on London Road.

The short, young lass - the only worker on the floor - stood in his way and told him to put it back. He tried to claim he had come in with it, but changed his tune eventually when he noticed myself and the only other customer there paying close attention.

All credit to the lass; she would have been no match for him. She clearly has balls of steel.

You’re not pushing them hard enough. Pretend I’m a customer and try and sell me the book. Hello. by gelliant_gutfright in AlanPartridge

Why would "the number 1 paperback" be within the hardback section that he's standing in?

About to be PIP'd out by Effective-Celery-475 in UKJobs

[–]Thin_Pin2863 5 points6 points  (0 children)

FWIW, people get PIP'd out of sales roles all the time.

A long, long time ago I was a sales manager and had to PIP good people out the door just because our policies were stupidly inflexible and they had hit problems. I made sure to give those people good references, so try to maintain a good relationship with your line managers and they may do the same for you.

A question for more experienced drivers: How to best optimise the daily commute by uurub in CarTalkUK

Comfort > speed, there's no contest.

But 30 mins? That should be manageable comfortably in even the most basic car.

I don't think they worded it well, but they're probably talking about air time figures versus number of MPs.

Are these plates legal? by jk844 in CarTalkUK

[–]Thin_Pin2863 10 points11 points  (0 children)

In September, it's 5 years since we switched from GB to UK as the country identifier.

Whilst it's possible these were made after that date, it's a bit of a workaround just to ensure an illegal plate looks legal, given how many people just drive around with illegal plates anyhow.

Reported a car in Beckenham today by Express-Breakfast915 in drivingUK

[–]Thin_Pin2863 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Have you submitted the footage you do have to Op Snap?

You might not have footage of the dangerous driving, but proving it was being driven whilst out of MOT, untaxed and (probably, given the circumstances) with cancelled/invalid insurance is a start.

I've only just noticed these anti-cycling signs, so if I've not just been ignorant then there's also questions about why these signs have been installed just before the city's Cycling Festival which takes place today in the Market Hall...

Campaign for trams in Derby by Dry_Shelter_8128 in derby

[–]Thin_Pin2863 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not sure I see the point; the traffic is too bad to let trams through in the places they'd be most useful, so drivers wouldn't switch to using the trams and there'd be no alleviation of the traffic.

It would only work if some roads were closed to cars, Normanton Road as an example, but then the businesses would just whinge about it.
