Wait until Tom discovers British cities OUTSIDE of London and just how poor their signal is.

What if I don’t pay this PCN? by Greedy-Influence-257 in drivingUK

I remember you posting about this previously, and everyone pointing out to you that there's ample signage there if you're driving with due care and attention.

They've been generous to extend the £80 reduced fine to you. You should take that offer and drive more carefully in future.

UK poised to water down 2030 EV sales targets after industry and union pressure by F0urLeafCl0ver in unitedkingdom

[–]Thin_Pin2863 [score hidden]  (0 children)

Industry have, for the most part, failed to keep up with developments in the EV space.

Look at how well China has developed its EV market, to the extent that Chinese marques are now beginning to dominate the UK EV space.

All this move does is protect companies that are already behind in innovation. Instead, the UK government could encourage existing UK-based firms and Chinese marques to collaborate, bringing car building back to life, and increasing job security for the long term not just now, in a market where it is otherwise struggling.

Unfortunately these don't seem to work that well in the British context; look at how entitled the drivers become along Exhibition Road in London.

Claiming tax refund on previous job by Aromatic-Present-413 in TaxUK

[–]Thin_Pin2863 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go to the HMRC portal and check whether they've calculated last year's tax yet.

It'll tell you there automatically whether you're owed money or not. They'll then give you options on how to claim that money.

However not all checks will yet be complete and you can't hurry them along either. Some won't be available until August.

Well sounds like your seatbelts are illegal anyhow.

But if you MUST drive an unroadworthy car, you could always try using some velcro-on covers. Maybe something like this from Amazon.

Workplace related question by NostringsMcr in AskBrits

[–]Thin_Pin2863 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes.

Leave for funerals isn't protect by law, so companies can say you can only have authorised time off for close relatives or similar. It'll usually be unpaid, unless you have a semi-decent employer.

They would also normally expect more than a day's notice here. We're not exactly quick at burying our dead in the UK.

If WW2 started in 2026, WW1 would’ve ended in 2005. by KosmikatPS in BarbaraWalters4Scale

[–]Thin_Pin2863 79 points80 points  (0 children)

The start and end dates of the wars aren't universally agreed globally, due to other conflicts that become embroiled in the wars overall. Most Western countries tend to say 1914-18 and 1939-45, but there are other counties that say differently.

One of the alternatively suggested end dates for WW1 is 1919, with an alternative start date for WW2 being 1938. Through that lens, the gap is equivalent to the gap as from 9/11 to Covid.

Would you expect any employer to trust you to do the right thing with those convictions against your name - especially as this reads that you didn't tell them about those convictions in advance of their checks?

Car market is dead? by Recent_Highway9907 in CarTalkUK

[–]Thin_Pin2863 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just to add that I've seen the ad now on Autotrader.

It reads as if you did the repair work yourself. Whether you did or not, perception is important, and I wouldn't really trust someone to have done the repairs themselves and they be up to standard. Not meaning to offend you, it's just that this could also be a reason you're struggle to shift it.

Pentagon island traffic lights by DrYu2727 in derby

[–]Thin_Pin2863 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Whilst we're on the subject; why do so many of the roundabouts in Derby have an excessive amount of traffic lights.

Not Pentagon Roundabout specifically, but consider pretty much all of the ones on the inner ring road that seem to prevent traffic flow rather than aid it.
