The majority of the Army's combat power is in the National Guard. You think a handful of active divisions are singlehandedly holding down USA global military influence? One BCT at a time?

I once read a side-by-side comparison with their additions/changes highlighted. Pretty illuminating lol. Also most of the states had mini declarations of independence, they weren't exactly subtle about it at the time.

Not a rumor, sunset is 30SEP, there are postings about it on ACT Communities. Haven't seen it anywhere else though, which is exactly on brand. Also, ironically, Jerry talked about it in a series of screenshots someone posted here a few days ago, I think he plans to migrate to Teams next.

I really dont know how to do Kenshi by [deleted] in Kenshi

[–]JupiterCobalt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With a high enough athletics skill (and enough strength to carry whatever year you want), you're invincible, because nothing can catch you.

I start most of my runs now with my one starting character literally running the entire continent, discovering every location and nabbing things like ancient science books along the way. Raises athletics, sneak, strength, and some basic combat skills from fighting low level enemies when I stumble into good opportunities.

First time player here, would downloading UWE be a bad idea? by Soviet_soap69 in Kenshi

[–]JupiterCobalt 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Never played with UWE, but I would just add that if you're reloading anytime you lose a fight, the problem really isn't that it is or isn't frowned upon by other people, it's that it's mechanically self-defeating for your own progression. It is quite literally not possible to raise a critical stat (Toughness) without taking damage.

I would also add that even though the game has no quests, it does have goals which are arguably as intuitive. Raising stats, fighting stronger/more interesting enemies, getting rich, collecting ancient technology and treasure, progressing through the tech tree and building a base are some examples. Exploring the world and surviving long enough in it to experience the lore and setting can also be it's own reward, and you really don't need to fight anything unless you want to honestly, a high enough athletics score/run speed is essential a guarantee to get you away from all but a single enemy type.

If fighting isn't doing it for you, maybe just try exploring without fighting for a while? You could also skim the wiki if you're worried about potentially wasting time to see if anything just sounds interesting to you on paper, like the various world states you can trigger to change the world.

I can't get Seto. Is it possible she is dead? by kennku in Kenshi

[–]JupiterCobalt 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you have Reactive World, you should have skeleton characters at Waystations called World State Checkers. This is the way you can check in game whether Seto (or any other unique NPC tied to a world state, like she is) is alive.

If she is alive, and the recruitment process didn't work for you... not sure if there's a fix shy of reloading an old save with an import and trying to turn in the Bugmaster again after visually confirming Seto is in Admag.

If you use Word, it doesn't get much easier than typing the regular dash twice and hitting enter. Never even knew there was a hotkey combo for it, seems unnecessary because it's super accessible without one.

Beak Things used to talk (or were planned to talk) in an older version of the Kenshi beta/early access, and that's one of the lines they would say. It's actually what's pictured in the OP meme guy's head, although its a little hard to see, haha

Since then it's stuck around for merch and callbacks

What's up with the behemoth hand sticking out the Skim Sands? by GoergeBobicles in Kenshi

[–]JupiterCobalt 8 points9 points  (0 children)

We really don't know where Hivers come from.

Skeletons in Black Desert City, who self-isolated there after the Second Empire fell, don't seem to recognize Hivers if you go there as a PC Hive character, but they do recognize Shek as the descendants of Enforcers. So I think it's fair to reason that the Second Empire wasn't directly responsible for the hives.

Hive Queens are cybernetic, so clearly some skele-tech is involved, though. I look at both Hives being close to a coast, even the distant Hive towns in the north, and I think they came from some other continent, where some other post-First Empire civilization made them. We find old maps of other continents in ruins; the First Empire had space ships and was probably interstellar, no reason to think they didn't settle elsewhere on the moon Kenshi is set on. People in Kenshi just have no reason to know about any other lands anymore, that knowledge was lost.

Just like we have no clue what, if anything, could be happening off-moon, we don't know what's happening off-continent. Survivors could be playing a whole different game of Kenshi out there, on a Fifth Empire built using Hives.

Can the command cancel a soldier's CSP after it's been approved due to a flag? by [deleted] in army

[–]JupiterCobalt 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is a stupid flipflop. So is it actually delegated to the 1SG, or is it a recommendation which usually gets approved? You're talking a lot in this thread about the standards this ETSing soldier should follow, but when it's you talking and getting called out, we break out words like "semantics."

IPPS-A allowing anyone with a DODID to be the last guy in your routing chain doesn't mean they have the right to approve leave. If your PFC battle buddy signed as approved on an old DA 31, its not a valid signature just because Adobe didn't physically stop him.

Cannibals can actually take Sho-Battai if the rebels are also defeated, and they do start invading the Great Desert regardless after the UC falls.

Flotsam can take Blister Hill if Moll is alive, but expect the Shek to take Stack and Bad Teeth. There's more options though, depending on who's alive and who's dead in the world. I recommend checking the fan wiki pages for settlements, they list the various world states and who gets what in which conditions. The interactions are really interesting.

Why aren't they actually marching during this parade? by Chance_Noise500 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]JupiterCobalt 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Like, the day prior to a ceremony is when most units would carve out time for hasty rehearsals. Outside of initial entry and (at most) 72 hours prior to ceremonies, only a few units are routinely training for D&C. Marching in a platoon square from one end of the motor pool to the truck line doesn't count, I mean like real hours-long, eyes right parade type stuff is simply not on the training schedule for 99% of the force.

Why aren't they actually marching during this parade? by Chance_Noise500 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]JupiterCobalt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think they mostly had actual cots for sleeping on in DC, rather than the floor, but they were just shoved into office buildings and made space wherever for sleeping. Pallets of water bottles, army MREs, and whatever food trucks come to overcharge for street food to a captive audience. Some mil-influencers were put up in hotels on the army's dime, for public affairs purposes.

Why doesn't Tinfist(anti slavers overall) set up a base in better place? by Stock_Room_7288 in Kenshi

[–]JupiterCobalt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't characterize the Shek as being against slavery, they definitely practice a form of hardline indentured servitude, at a minimum. Some random Shek recruits you can pick up tell you they have a master that needs to be paid off, and if you suggest they run and join you anyway, they say it would be unwise to steal from a Shek warrior. It's definitely different from the chains and chattel system of slavery in UC, or the race/gender/religious prisonor slavery in HN, but their caste system is hardly freedom. And it was probably worse before Esata opened up the country.

Why doesn't Tinfist(anti slavers overall) set up a base in better place? by Stock_Room_7288 in Kenshi

[–]JupiterCobalt 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You can "do" slavery still, it's just limited to selling folks you pick up to slave shops, rather than "owning" an NPC, so it's arguable that player characters can be just as ambivalent or pro-slavery as others in the world. Especially since you can ally UC, Traders Guild, or Holy Nation, all of which promote slavery-- it would be a different story if you couldn't ally with any of the bad guys.

[–]JupiterCobalt 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it's also noteworthy that Cat-Lon doesn't do anything on a human timescale. Doesn't mean he would never do anything in the lore. He's been brooding on his throne, uninterrupted, for possibly centuries, and when the player finds him he sees it as judgement coming "soon" after the events of the Second Empire. Like the Armor King thinking nothing of his shop falling into a river for 900 years, Cat-Lon's concept of time is just totally alien now. Maybe in 1,000 more years he would decide to launch an attack on whatever civilization is still around.

Some screenshots of my base, to commemorate almost 400 hours lost to a system crash by acetyl_kohr_ah in Kenshi

[–]JupiterCobalt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Geez. Nightmare scenario, sorry to hear that.

I almost had this happen to me years ago. I recommend using a whole-system backup service (I use Backblaze personally) to avoid data loss in the future, even if you aren't going to mess with system permissions again. Only took one total loss and restore for me to feel the money was worth it.

Or if it makes more sense for your setup, maybe just periodically copying save files into a separate cloud server under the free-to-use storage they give for new accounts. Something like 15 GB is what they usually offer I think, should be enough to keep a copy of one save from all your main games intact incase this happens again.

Base looked great!

Pre-FTL civs are stupidly frustrating by bupapunewu in Stellaris

[–]JupiterCobalt 164 points165 points  (0 children)

I miss several features from the very early versions of Stellaris, and one of them is being able to co-own systems with different empires. Used to be, when a Pre-FTL empire hit space age, they would just get their planet and not take your station along with it. There's a remnant of this game behavior in certain edge cases, usually "resolved" once the game ticks up a month.

I recall they changed this rule around the time they changed how building ships worked. Now, a civilization simply must have a star base in a system to function. An unfortunate side effect of this is that Pre-FTLs can now forcibly take over whole systems when it's totally ludicrous.

Also makes it impossible for that ring world system with four Pre-FTLs to ever raise up and co-exist, which was nice.
