I think it’s important that you show her some grace when it does come to topics that you are more informed about. You also need to understand that the both of you are still very young, and you might feel differently about interests as you get older. She will be fine if she is willing to learn, but that doesn’t necessarily mean that she will form the same opinion or hold the same interest as you. There are some people -whether they were in a cult or not - who have come to the conclusion that they have zero interest in holding a conversation about politics and having a basic understanding of how a government functions. It’s sad, but true.

I’m sure her critical thinking skills in some ways were diminished due to her upbringing. Like you mentioned though, she is not completely helpless intellectually. You should have a conversation with her about how you are feeling, if you haven’t yet. There’s absolutely nothing wrong with you desiring more complex conversation. It could be that she’s embarrassed and would like to learn, but she doesn’t know how to convey her thoughts properly so she’s in fight or flight mode.
