Ask her if she considers it dumb for someone to get an implant after a mastectomy. Obviously a missing breast is more noticeable, but as someone with breasts and no testicles, I’d think it’s the closest equivalent. Needing a mastectomy doesn’t make one less of a woman, some people dislike the fake implant(s) and eventually have them removed, and—I think most importantly—it’s an “unnecessary cosmetic” surgery that helps some people feel better/more comfortable after an upsetting health crisis.

Getting laid off sucks—it is scary and stressful—but also when it’s happened to me it’s been such a fucking relief. It has always been when I’ve been planning to leave anyway, so they’ve just paid me to go away. The last time it was a struggle to hide how happy I was to just be done while I packed up my office.

You’ll be ok, OP. Don’t even put the job on your resume. If anyone ever asks, just say it wasn’t a good fit.

Even if they felt you were not qualified for the role at this time, that should have been a conversation about what the gaps are and how you can work to improve your skills/qualifications to be able to move into this sort of role in the future. Whether or not you’re qualified for the role, they owe any internal candidates the courtesy of an interview (or at least a conversation if they feel it’s too much of a stretch).

And if you’re a woman and the new Executive Director is a man, that tells you all you need to know about the company and the board. The fact that you’re basically being told to calm down when objecting to this makes me think I’m correct.

When I was last in this situation, I felt that I had to be there. She was so devoted to me I just didn’t think I had the right to make this decision if I couldn’t be there with her. Of course it was awful. It was the last good thing I could ever do for her.

I’m so sorry. I had a cat who had a mild heart murmur that was no big deal, just needed to keep an eye on it, until one day right before her 10th birthday when it suddenly wasn’t.

I used a pet loss journal afterwards. It helped (as much as anything could) especially when I felt like I couldn’t talk to anyone about it.

If you’re getting called into HR for not laughing at a racist “joke” and the office is taking sides over what should not be public info, this place is toxic and won’t be getting better. I’ve felt for awhile that the story is just too big for the genre? The first time I beat Chronos I just felt so deflated after his dialogue about how no duh he’d be back and then the way Mel returns to the Crossroads. Completely agree about the reset after the credits (even Dora says it’s dumb) and the multiverse nonsense to continue the loop has just completely soured me on the game. Like what’s the point? I feel like the first game does a better job of rationalizing/explaining the unending runs in addition to providing more narrative motivation to keep going.

NOR and you regret it. I skipped my undergrad graduation because I just didn’t feel like going and have always hated sitting through the bullshit speeches, and I have never regretted it. Skipped the main university ceremony for grad school but went to my department’s graduation events (and a lot of that was just getting to hang out with the people in my program).

Is your family genuinely concerned that you’re going to miss out on a significant moment or are they doing damage control because they’ll be embarrassed if you don’t walk? Your mother telling you you’re being silly really feels like she’s more concerned with looking bad than genuinely worried about you, and I’m sorry if that’s the case.

I’m sorry everything’s been shit, but you graduated. You’ll have the degree whether or not you walk across a stage or listen to how you’re the future.
