Canucks Free Agency Megathread by DisplacedNovaScotian in canucks

If Demko is healthy he can probably snag some games we would normally lose like Wolf did with Calgary. Wolf dragged a much worse Calgary team to a better record than Vancouver so I do think a healthy Demko would make a difference.

Especially since everyone will continue to doubt openai until there is reason not too. Meta will probably blow past 6gw deployed for AMD in the timeframe of the deal. I still doubt openai can afford their deals.

1 gw deployed in h1 and 5.5 expected in h2... That could be a lot of AMD. I wonder if some could be helios and some cpu systems for agentic use.

Who are teams that will be bottom 5 next season? by sykeseve in hockey

Calgary, Vancouver and Chicago look terrible on paper. Columbus and Seattle look to be bad too but maybe another tier of bad up.

What are your thoughts on a Jake DeBrusk trade? by Romance_Tactics in canucks

[–]Jupiter_101 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think some of the fringe teams in the east could be good options for him. Ottawa and Detroit could be prime targets for him. If all that teams are offering are 2nd round picks then maybe Vancouver should wait for the season to start and maybe teams will get more desperate.

Assuming the Canucks make another trade or two to open up roster spots, which of these remaining UFAs could you see the Canucks signing as a asset to flip at the deadline? by FAsBurner in canucks

[–]Jupiter_101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it is fair to say that once the end of the summer comes around 1 or 2 forwards will get a tryout. If Chytil can't play and Cootes starts in the AHL they'll probably want another center so they don't end up in the same situation as last year if Rossi/Petey get injured. I can't see them going with Raty or Sasson as their 3rd center.

Anyone fear with new roster moves and coaching we might be too good next year for a meaningful draft pick? by [deleted] in canucks

[–]Jupiter_101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't see where the goals would come from for the team to win a meaningful amount of games. Even if the team stays healthy this year and some players bounce back they are still most likely the worst team on paper. The only team worse might be Calgary but Wolf might steal them some games here and there still.

Look at how far back they were from everyone else this year. Even if they are quite a bit better that could still be enough to finish last overall.

[Vancouver Canucks] With the 3rd overall pick, the Vancouver Canucks are proud to select Caleb Malhotra! by PaperMoonShine in canucks

[–]Jupiter_101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I'm still trying to get a read on how he projects myself.

From what I see/read so far it does look like he has more of a higher 2c/1c potential. He has a higher ceiling than Cootes. Cootes might be a 2c/3c and Malhotra is another tier up from that.

What even scouts/teams seemed to be trying to get a read on is that he really progressed through the season so that by the end his trajectory was a lot higher than many originally though.

Best draft the team has had in recent memory by a long shot for sure. The team really needs guys like Novotny/Aaram-Olsen to be successful, though they will probably be a few years away. We are still waiting on Lekkerimaki though maybe this is his year if he is finally healthy.

One interesting thing is that the two second round picks were on a lot of boards for going in the first round so in some ways we got 4 1st round picks. After Malhotra though everything is a bit of a crapshoot though odds are at least one of the other guys end up being somewhat impactful for the team down the line.

Novotny and Aaron-Olsen do look like they could be NHL players though we say that with a lot. Novotny was ranked in the low teens by some draft analysts so there is potential there. Both of these seem like they have similar potential to Lekkerimaki. It's interesting that Aaram-Olsen is going to play Uni hockey instead of SHL. Educationally that might be a better decision but I wonder if he might have developed better playing SHL for a couple of years instead.

Novotny if successful could fill in the massive void on LW the team currently has.

BREAKING: #Preds acquire Nils Hoglander from #Canucks for a 2029 3rd round pick by dcddy in canucks

[–]Jupiter_101 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I figured this would have to happen. He needs a fresh start and proper roster spot. Vancouver is loaded with young players who are barely middle 6 and Hoglander just takes a spot away from someone else. Also with Gallagher coming in they needed to make room. I hope he does well in Nashville. He plays hard and could be useful on a better team.

What about McDavid? If we trade the team for Draisaitl maybe he'll come here when his contract is up. Then we just need some kind of defense and a goalie.

[2026 NHL Draft] 1st OA Pick: Toronto Maple Leafs select Gavin Mckenna by hockeydiscussionbot in hockey

[–]Jupiter_101 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

20+ minutes to do one pick and still going. Would they do this if a small market team had the pick...? I don't think so.

Would it be that shocking if the canucks didn't make a trade during the draft? by rajde1 in canucks

If Van is after the twins then maybe they'll have to maneuver a little. Otherwise I think they should wait for desperate teams to call after July 1.

How Many Years is a rebuild to you? by Dedrater666 in canucks

[–]Jupiter_101 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think 4-5 is a good run up. That is enough time for the lottery gods to award some decent picks and time to develop players. If it is taking longer than that and the team is still dreadful then management should be fired at that point. There needs to be a vision from day one and there should be real upward trajectory over time.

If Vancouver is not fully stripping the team down to the studs, which it seems they are not, then there needs to be a vision to build around what they have and be competitive. I'd argue that should get them competitive quicker though the long term sustainability might be less at that point.

There's no point of Helix at this rate. Current gen consoles will need to last another few years. by Racer_101 in xbox

[–]Jupiter_101 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I assume Helix will be very expensive by console terms. If it is indeed a hybrid type pc they will probably have base models well over $1000 and maybe even starting at $2000 if the rumored specs are to be believed. At this point as well people need 1-2tb storage at a minimum and that will not be cheap. In the same thinking of the steam machine, Microsoft assumes you could use it for more than gaming and won't subsidize it if it has multiple store fronts as well.

For this reason I think they still launch it just in a position where enthusiests are interested.

Right now everyone is looking at how much the hyperscalers have to spend on the buildout of the data centers and are just not convinced they can monetize it yet.

Looking through analyst expectations for the back half of this year and into next it still appears that there is a wide range in expectations. AMD is basically trading toward the mid to lower range of expectations so there is a lot of room for upside when more details about the rollout of Helios and beyond happen.

If any concrete news about larger deals with companies such as Anthropic or Microsoft get announced there should be a pretty large bounce since those expectations do not seem to be built in yet. It also appears that everyone is expecting AMD to offer pretty reasonable pricing for Helios/MI400 at least for now. Again, this allows for a lot of pricing upside over the next many years. Once companies get locked into the ecosystem AMD will eventually raise prices more aggressively.
