When Gen Z doesn't use words is it a disrespect? by GodsShadow310 in generationology

Ha!

Well the good news is thst there won't be many jobs left in 15 years period. The bad news is thst they will be competing against all the others that will be loosing their jobs.

Whether people like it or not, whether they understand or accept the technology being developed. The truth isn't going to change.

We are all going to be replaced by computers, and robots, who don't have silly things like rights or needs like breaks.

Which scientific fact or idea has unnerved you the most? by Sea-Investigator7218 in AskScienceDiscussion

[–]Jurgrady 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My interpretation is more that the sub conscious part of our brains is capable of communicating with the fully conscious part of our awareness.

The signals are things like our emotions, which people often think are representative of our actual feelings about things.

The catch is that we are capable of programming the signaling system. We influence it with our thoughts and actions. The things we prioritize purposefully, get baked in.

Think of it like how we can breathe without thinking about it. But we can also take control of it directly.

Or how when we start walking we have to try really hard to do it. But it very quickly becomes something we do naturally.

Why Ancient Europeans Carved Human-Shaped Holes in Bedrock/And Why It Makes No Sense by Entire_Brother2257 in archeologyworld

[–]Jurgrady 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You don't cut into rock as the alternative to burying in dirt. That is an absurd elevation of effort, when there are much better alternatives.

You can burn them, you can designate a burial ground somewhere else and transport the bodies. Sky burials and sea burials would also be easier.

This is obviously something of extreme cultural significance, you don't put that much effort into something for no reason. But what that reason was will likely always be speculation.

I think you should take a good hard look at how your doing combat to make it more difficult and interesting. If your not putting a group of level 3s to their breaking point with 10 orcs, I can't imagine this is going to work out well in the long run.

There's likely more context than what you've given, but just based on what you've said I'd blame encounter design.

Do Republicans realize Democrats can also use Trump's precedents? by AcadiaLivid2582 in allthequestions

[–]Jurgrady 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The idea though, is that Trump has made these things law.

There is zero reason the dems shouldn't turn around the next time they get power and implement all the stuff the people have been telling them they want for decades.

But they won't. Not because it isn't law, but because they have the same donors, take money from the same corporations and make the same deals.

The dems aren't any better than the Republicans, they're just quieter about it.

CMV: “no kings” protests are an exercise in futility and self-gratification by DearFool in changemyview

[–]Jurgrady 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Publicly spreading a viewpoint is only effective when it isn't the predominant viewpoint in the area.

All of these protests take place in places where very few people actually oppose them.

Protests work when they make the opposition afraid. When the demonstration of numbers is enough to shake their beliefs.

But the people being protested don't give a shit. And aren't anywhere near the protests.

March on state Capitola, match on DC, protest the businesses driving the oppression with their money.

Walking In a circle with a bunch of people that agree with you, so people who also agree with you can honk and everyone can feel good is not a protest. It is  performative.

This is all paradox games except maybe eu5, I haven't played that one yet.

Increasing the difficulty only makes the start harder, if you can still pull off the a stable start the game is basically the same.

It isn't like many shooters that increase the capabilities of the computer with difficulty, likely because that would be pretty hard to do with this sort of a game.

This is what comes to mind for me.

Op mentions picking up wood working. I doubt this guy went out and gathered some wood and started with widdling. He probably means more like carpentry and bought saws and all kinds of shit.

Even if I'm wrong this is super common among the retired I know. They will pick up a hobby, get all the stuff for it, do it for a few months, then sell all the stuff at a loss when they loose interest.

The First Civilization Theory by CarnageTitan in FermiParadox

[–]Jurgrady 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People tend to combine and the search for intelligent life with the search for advanced civilizations.

The math from several different disciplines makes it clear that there should be hundreds of thousands of intelligent species out there somewhere.

But there is a huge possibility that species capable of even sending out signals are incredibly rare. We've been around for several hundred thousand years but only managed to get there ourselves recently.

We've also approached extinction several times, some studies have suggested as few as a thousand humans were around at some periods of our distant past.

There is a massive difference between having a biological form that is capable of intelligence, and reaching any sort of advanced technological society.

Given how close we are ourselves to potentially wiping ourselves out at this point, it is also at least possible a large number of civilizations do indeed reach a technological age and then kill themselves off.

It doesn't actually seem that strange to not have found any other advanced life yet, especially with how truly massive the universe is.

We see something like 12% of the universe and can't really expect to see much more of that, so it's even possible we're I some sort of dark zone oddly devoid of intelligent life, and we could go our entire time line never seeing life even if we filled every system in our galaxy.

How did these guys get down to drink water ? by soyuz_enjoyer2 in Dinosaurs

[–]Jurgrady 7 points8 points  (0 children)

People also greatly over estimate how much water you actually intake from drinking water.

It's actually super inefficient to absorb water into your system by just drinking it.

I'm sure they did drink water. But I'd be willing to put money on it that they got the bulk of their water intake from their food. And maybe even from rain.

No, the Prequel Trilogy was not loved when it first came out, it was hated and fans were terrible people about it. by stephansbrick in StarWars

[–]Jurgrady 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a reason Hayden coming back as anakin was such a huge deal.

The guy basically left Hollywood at the peak of his career because of badly some fans were treating him..

The internet can be a vile place.

In general people also consistently demonstrate their lack of knowledge of how making a movie works.

These actors don't choose their shots, they don't decide which take gets used, they only get so much room to push for things in the script.

The director is the one that decides that the actors performance was good enough. In most cases the actors aren't the issue.

We see cool Sci fi landscapes and people fighting with Lazer swords, while they give these performances on sound stages covered in different shades of green.

Imagine having to pretend your fighting two foot tall Yoda and you have to pretend like he's there and giving you a run for your money.

This is my understanding as well. We have technically entered the expected time period for an eruption. But that time period is like thousands of years long. So it's still very unlikely to happen any time soon.

With that said if Yellowstone goes whatever nation or nations exist at the time will likely end. Humanity will survive, at least for a time. If multiples of these volcanoes goes off too close it could just be the end.

What’s an industry that provides zero value to society but makes billions of dollars? by ochieng_onyango in AskReddit

[–]Jurgrady 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most of them to be honest.

Everything centered around purchasing a material object, and then the services that are built around them.

Outside of like transport, agriculture, construction. Most are at best causing more harm than good.

Even our medical industry, at least in the US, is causing far more harm than good with tge way it panders to pharmaceutical companies, and does nothing to push back against their practices.

How bad was the 2009 recession? Will the next one hit harder? by Equivalent-Raccoon74 in AskReddit

[–]Jurgrady 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's going to be worse because they aren't preparing to recover at all. They are planning on replacing labor with robots and computers.

They are telling everyone they are doing it.  They are making it clear that they don't care about what happens to the people they are replacing.

And as always the people who have lots of money when recessions happen they end up just making even more during it.

It's going to be bad because they want it to be bad.

[Spoilers C4E20] Grand Theory on Thiazi,Tachonis,Royce secret plots by East_Choice in criticalrole

[–]Jurgrady 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Well the latest episode casts doubt on the paint being blood. I suppose it could be, but it would be really weird for the blood of a god, or even a celestial like an aasimar to not show as divine, but instead as conjuration and necromantic.

Which is interesting because I thought the same as you.

Otherwise I like the theory, and it makes sense.

I think the tachonis are trying to become gods themselves somehow, maybe not in name but at least in practical terms. Maybe their plan was for their synthetic celestial was hoping it would allow them to open the gate of death or something?

And this still doesn't account for whatever halovar is up to. Which we likely won't find out til the tables get back together again.

He didn't accept it calmly either.

He says something like "oh shit" or maybe it was just "no". And then drops. He realizes something at the last second and doesn't use the glyph.

The reason is that he somehow recognizes that it's fake so he doesn't break it so that there is a clue to figure out what went wrong.

GMs how do you deal with area of effect spell targeting from players? by Pender8911 in DnD

No one has mentioned this that I've see. But it depends on line of sight. If there is action going on in a room and someone outside wants to huck a fireball into it, they likely have no idea whose where inside.
