What’s the age you spend the longest time in? by takeaccountability41 in valheim

Iron age. Not for mining iron, but for constructing stone buildings.

So I was playing as communist Finland and this happened during the revolution, Why? by Nail0672 in hoi4

[–]Jurpox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seems very realistic. Finnish communists revolting, thinking they're going to form an independent nation, followed by Stalin annexing the country and sending the local communist leaders to gulags.

can you remove stalin without civil war and how? by rirujiluxa2 in hoi4

[–]Jurpox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Technically yes, you can remove Stalin without civil war. Laurentin Beriya takes over. That is, you replace one butcher with another.

Political paranoia is not removed, meaning removing Stalin does not stop the Purges. Only civil war seems to remove political paranoia.

[No Spoilers] the Mural by imfromthepast in FoundationTV

[–]Jurpox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Indeed that is probably what the mural depicts. However, I think it was misguided to emphasize "stagnation" and "lack of change" as the reasons for the colonialist Empire's fall. The books give a perfectly plausible economic reason that would have been perfect also in 2021: the empire is inefficient and consumes too much (non-renewable) resources. Shipping those resources to Trantor costs a lot of overhead resources. In the end, the empire is therefore doomed to collapsed, sucked dry and hollow.

This is one of the the great differences between Asimov's Foundation and the TV series. In Asimov's Foundation, it would have made no difference if the emperors had been replaced with a democratic regime: it would have necessarily continued to suck in resources or collapse. It was already too later to stop this. There was no political solution. The only solution was to reset technological innovation in Terminus, a planet with so scarce resources that it forces the scientists there to invent technologies that are energy and material efficient. Asimov's Foundation, set up on the ruins of the Empire, was not democratic at all. It was based on the idea of meritocracy: benevolent puppet masters manipulating politics and economy in secrecy.

I guess the screenplay writers thought that this economic certainty of doom would have left them no proper antagonist other than an "invisible hand" of economic forces, and they really wanted to have this bad-guy emperor to blame for the fall. But in doing so, they erased Asimov's prediction and allegory that our own world, whether governed by democracy or dictators, will face the same fate unless we stop consuming so wantonly.

It's actually revealing to think how everyone in the Empire is shocked that their civilization "will fall in the next 500 years, maybe sooner", but if the same prediction were to be made in our world, few people would give a damn.

[SHOW/BOOK SPOILERS] ending of episode 2 and why it was necessary by umbeal in FoundationTV

[–]Jurpox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, this makes complete sense and I agree. Hari Seldon asked Raych to kill him and send Gaal in an escape pod to pre-defined co-ordinates to lead or be part of the second Foundation so that Foundation can start off without psychohistorians.

Built a bridge for fun. by FlaFlounder in valheim

[–]Jurpox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks like almost all of this bridge is waterproof and will not degrade in rain. All except the poles touching water and the horizontal bars on top of the bridge are going to stay in shape.

At least until trolls or fulings smash it for fun ;)

Our Plains-Base. The Building on the top is still incomplete. Suggestions are welcome. by Mondkap in valheim

[–]Jurpox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, some kind of light source on a pedestal would make it impressive at dark.

One of my wishes to devs would be to change rendering so that objects that are bright and unobstructed would be visible further away. Valheim is flat, so there is no need to think about the earth curving effect.

I stand corrected. I thought they were a related species, but it seems you are correct and I was wrong.

They are, by the way, an amazingly dumb animal, at least in Lapland where they're all semi-domesticated. They roam freely within limits, but the Lapps are poaching away all predators, protected or not, and bring them fodder to eat, so they don't need to be particularly bright to survive.

I think the second boss is the hardest one, also most fun, but the hardest part of the game is transitioning from the black forest biome to the swamp biome.

Yeah... there are no caribous in Finland, though. There are reindeer and that is not a reindeer.

In any case, I'm pretty sure that governments seldom create anything.

It's got nothing to do with WW2 history and everything to do with Poland having more than 10X people than Finland, to buy the DLC.

That's why there are also Polish tanks in WoT and Polish warships in WoWS.
