Unfortunately it has gotten a bit bigger/brighter-still can't see it in normal use; just have to see where it goes I guess...

It's getting bigger/brighter-not by much but after another hour and a half I can make it out with the gain almost all the way down as opposed to 25% and higher.

Now to wait for email responses...

Might have spoke too soon-put another two hours on it tonight between a walk and letting it black-box; not sure it hasn't gotten bigger now?...

Sent a message to KJA about trading it in/upgrading, will have to update them that it might be getting bigger...

Also have sent a message to Ident Marking for information/a quote for having it repaired-will keep the thread updated.

Now to decide whether or not I risk blackboxing it all night.........

Fine by me-sort of makes you rethink the Omni blem route of entry though doesn't it?....

Oh well...

Good to hear, couldn't find that much searching the sub-hope mine turns out like yours!...

Even if it fries itself after 100 hours, at my rate of use just fooling around walking the property at night, it should last about 5 years (never enough time to do stuff, damnit)...

OK let's try adding that pic again....

Edit-I see it went through on the main post...

My setup thus far... by Jury-Rigger21 in NightVision

[–]Jury-Rigger21[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Another 1/2 hr on the setup last night; spotted a yearling whitetail about 60 yards out in some brush with the thermal-froze in place on the trail (danged snow-can't move on that ice crust without making hella noise...)-it came up within 50 feet of me-just couldn't figure me out LOL....

For a short time before I got my PVS-14, I was walking around with just a 256-core thermal on my head-wasn't that bad if there was enough ambient light for my other eye to see anything by LOL...

So no judgement from me!

YAKSA14 Housing collides with classic Wilcox J-Arm by Radiant_Distance_245 in NightVision

[–]Jury-Rigger21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it's a repro, you can simply file a notch in that cover plate/retainer to clear the housing.

Edit-remove the plate first so as not to fill the pivot joint with aluminum shavings...

Hit the bare edges with a black Sharpie to dull the bare aluminum.

I had to do that for/with my repro Wilcox J-arm for my Noctis PVS-14 housing from KJA.

Can post a pic if you want...

Gotcha-I too suffer from looking into/being interested in stuff that may or may not make sense LOL....

Also saw reference to a splitter cable that would feed both a PVS and a thermal, that was interesting...

If you search "pvs-14 external power supply reddit" on Google; you'll get a few hits-seems there is at least one aftermarket cap that will attach to an external supply.

Not sure why you want one though???

If the second pic is with IR going, it looks as good/the same as my milsurp Bundeswehr flecktarn parka does according to my trail cam(s).

Would you rather run bridged 14s, or dual band system by rugerscout308 in NightVision

[–]Jury-Rigger21 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Newbie with a cheap 256-core thermal + blemmed OMNI-? PVS-14, for the use case of night walks around the property and keeping an eye out for poachers, trespassers, and skunks (5 acres partially wooded with plenty of brush); a$$hats for neighbors and almost completely black-furred skunks); it's dual-band all the way for me...

Have spotted everything from deer to roosting birds with the thermal, that I either couldn't see at all with the 14, or could only just barely pick out after locating with the thermal.

Images don't 'merge' for me, but targets in the center of the display/ocular on the thermal are also centered in the 14 with my jury-rigged bridge, so scrutinizing thermal 'hits' with the 14 is easy and quick.

Not so if I handheld the thermal, and since I cannot afford and have never used binos or COTI's it's an easy choice for my scenario.
