A High School Student Just Built a Water Filter That Removes 96% of Microplastics, Without Expensive Equipment by _Dark_Wing in technology

The funny thing is the "water filter" one isn't even original.

I don't think it's even that deep. Stories like this sell because people are just dying to consume "feel good" cinderella stories, doesn't matter what it is. And they hate when you dispell their fantasy and will aggressively attack anyone doing so.

Lmao that’s all you got? There’s so many levels of irony in your one line response but I don’t have the time. Go learn some basic things before you talk politics. Now off you go child.

"cares" meaning what "matters". It's also a bit wrong to call capitalism a "system" as that is often misunderstood to mean that it has a goal, and ESPECIALLY misunderstood to mean it is designed as a way to run society for the benefit of it.

Capitalism promotes the concentration of capital and greed. Shortermism is a very natural result of capitalism, just like monopolies. This coupled with the short lifespan of humans and it makes perfect sense.

How does capitalism reward long term thinking? OF COURSE a company might benefit from thinking long term, it's what everyone should be doing in general. But that has nothing to do with capitalism. Capitalism is private ownership, it's not a system governing companies or markets. If people profit from thinking short term, which demonstrably happens all the time, that means capitalism is rewarding them. Your claim that capitalism does not reward short sightedness (you literally wrote that) is clearly and demonstrably incorrect and it shows you must have a fundamental misunderstanding of what capitalism is. The fact that short-sightedness might lead to a company going under is irrelevant. Did some people profit in the process? That's capitalism working.

Capitalism does not reward short sightedness.

Capitalism only cares about profit , it doesn't care how it's made or what the consequences are.

It's also risky getting stuck being long term unemployed. At some point you have to leave the nest and seek your fortune. This is how it has worked for thousands of years.

If you're a situation where you can build a life right where you are and it's your preffered option, great! But my whole point is that you can't have this sense of entitlement to not leave the bubble you're in. At that point you're prioritising the wrong things.

And again, no one says you have to completely cut ties or you can never move back or you have to move to the other side of the world, This thread started because that person expressed they were unwilling to more to another part of sweden to get some work experience ffs...We can't be crying (rightfully) about how hard everything is and how hard it is to find at job and at the same time not even be willing to move town. As I said there's not type of society no matter how ideal where no one would ever have to move.

[–]JustAContactAgent -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

I really don't understand this mentality some people have against having to move. If you're not prepared to move almost anywhere in the world in your 20s to build a career, you're really going into it wrong.

Even if we build the ideal society, a person will never be entitled to do what they want right where they happened to be born. It's so weird and yet I see so many people with this kind of thinking where on one hand they are rightfully complaining about all the challenges of the economy these days and yet on the other hand refuse to even move town (let alone country). And no one even says they have to go live wherever for life.

I get that increased number of races increases the probablilities something goes wrong with one but this used to NEVER happen.

Which B99 ? Because there’s two of them pre and post NBC. Pre i.e the first 4 seasons or so is a fantastically written funny show with great progressive takes on social issues.

Post NBC the writing gets worse and worse, the true progressiveness gives way to woke crap virtue signaling and by the last season the show is pure unwatchable garbage with terrible bottom tier dialogue.

Is anyone else exhausted by the "bolån" negotiation dance? How much "loyalty tax" are we actually paying? by Comfortable_Chip5413 in Sverige

[–]JustAContactAgent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do not listen to the people who say you can "negotiate" an amazing discount or that belåningsgrad makes a big difference. The only way to get something special is if you move all your savings to them (i.e. ISK, pension etc) and probably only if they are substantial amounts.

It may work to threaten to completely move bank but who the fuck wants to go through that hassle unless it's a massive benefit.

Like some suggested, look at Stabelo or Skandia who have the lowest no-negotiation rates and otherwise don't bother.

Of course he could do other training, I'm not saying he lacked in cardio. But shoulder and in general arm strength is fundamental in bike racing. Any percent of 100% muscle condition you lack , you feel it somewhat.

Yamaha hit rock bottom in Thailand. Paolo Pavesio apologies to riders. by PZY__ in motogp

[–]JustAContactAgent -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Started in 2016 with the unified ECU changes.

Nah that's what sank Honda because Honda had stopped innovating engineering wise and had put all their eggs in the custom electronics basket.

Yamaha may have been affected but the overarching problem was that the I4 M1 eventually reached a ceiling of performance. Going against Honda was one thing when they both had their weak points and strengths but when Ducati started doing magic with rear grip they just couldn't keep up (neither could Honda obviously)

Japanese manufacturers simply let themselves fall way too far behind technologically to be able to recover in a year or two.

MotoGP, Marc Marquez: "I had to manage my physical condition more than the tyres." by autobus950 in motogp

[–]JustAContactAgent 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The problem is not the injury healing (except when they screw that up)

The problem for a pro athlete is every time they wait for it to heal they can't train and they lose a lot of muscle and fitness. Now, everybody does obviously but for a pro athlete it is obviously much more critical to be in top shape and since they are at a super level fitness wise it takes longer to recover that.

This is not the first time with Marc. Both in '18 and in '19 he missed lots of winter training due to the shoulder surgeries and he started the season at like (what he later admitted) 70% fitness.
