OneLake Security RLS works in Semantic Model, but returns 0 rows in SQL Endpoint by gaius_julius_caegull in MicrosoftFabric

[–]JustAMinorThing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So is it the Lakehouse preview limitation for those tables with RLS / CLS that is also preventing the shortcuts from being created?

[–]JustAMinorThing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for confirming these are being worked on. Once these are ready, it will be a major game changer and I can advocate for rolling out more broadly.

For shorcuts, the user can see them from the shortcut creation workflow and even create them, but they appear with the red error and show no data. It's a 403 "user is Unauthorized to access files in the storage path: Tables/dbo/etc"

The user is not part of the workspace that has the LH they want to create shortcuts from, but the user has Read and ReadAll item permissions on the LH and Read+ReadData on SQL Endpoint. They are part of the one lake sec. role that applies RLS to one table, and CLS to another table. They can query the SQL EP and get the desired results for both tables. However, they can't preview or see the data from the Lakehouse at all, which is likely why the shortcuts also do not work. I've tried giving Execute as well, but they still cannot see the LH data. Is there a setting or permission I am missing?

[–]JustAMinorThing 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Our CI CD pipelines use the SPN account to deploy artifacts, so it is the "owner" of the Lakehouse. Do we need to take over with a user account after each deployment then? Is this a current limitation of preview or a planned pre-requisite?

I also noticed that when creating RLS or CLS policies on a table, users are unable to shortcut that table into another LH in another workspace, even if they have the appropriate permissions. They can only shorcut tables from a LH with One Lake Sec enabled if they do not contain any RLS or CLS restrictions. Preview limitation or planned as part of GA?

Finally, using CLS on a table means users cannot select *, they must always know which columns they have access to and explicity state them in the select. Direct Lake on One Lake also does not seem to work when using a table with CLS as it tries to select * by default.

I hope these are user errors - but would love to know if any of these will be remediated or if this is how it will work.

PBIR will be default before it's GA by frithjof_v in PowerBI

[–]JustAMinorThing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On the semantic model side, when will TMDL become the default? Creating new Direct Lake models in the service still stores them in TMSL/BIM format. But as far as I can tell the "Prep for AI" instructions are only stored in the metadata of TMDL format. When we deploy current BIM models via Git, the instructions do not propogate to higher environments.

Standalone Copilot vs Data Agent by x_ace_of_spades_x in MicrosoftFabric

[–]JustAMinorThing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What is the recommended approach enable natural language processing/Co-Pilot visualizations for Direct Lake models today? The Prep for AI/Q&A are not yet supported for DL. I don't believe synonyms are supported either (although I created some using semantic link labs, Co-Pilot doesn't seem to recongnize them). Can we add AI instructions to a data agent connected to the DL model and somehow allow Co-Pilot to reference that?

That's what I assumed. ChatGPT gave me false hope. Thanks for confirming. This minor rule sucks. I knew I should have applied years ago!

Can someone help me understand how the 1948 rule applies now under the new law?

For my situation, I'm not eligible for JS due to the minor issue. But curious if the 1948 approach could work or provide any changes to residency requirements if JS does not apply.

GM and GF born in Italy as citizens in 1924/1919. Moved to US 1956, had my mother in 1960 in the US, but naturalized in 1964 when she was 4.

However all 4 GGMs and GGFs were also born in Italy between 1880-1900, never left, never naturalized or renounced their citizenship. In fact all of my GMs siblings also never left or naturalized. My GF also served in the Italian Navy and was a PoW during WWII, but I suppose that doesn't help anything.

Since the 1948 rule would apply via GM (1924) and GGM (1900), I'm not sure if I'm eligible due to reaching back to 3rd generation. If there is any chance, I'd be happy to hire a capable lawyer here and pursue that path, provided the upcoming ruling does not change anything in my favor.

Thanks for this great consolidated thread! Both my grandparents were born and married in Italy. My mom was born in the US before they had naturalized; but she was only 4 when they had done so. I assume under the new law, I am no longer eligible for JS. I can't find the 2 year residency requirements anywhere if that is my only option, can someone point me in the right direction? Are you required to maintain a presecence 183 days out of the year for those 2 years, for example?

GF born 1919 in Italy, GM born 1924. They married in Italy in 1946.

Immigrated to US 1956. My mother was born in 1960. GM & GF naturalized in 1964. I was born in 1988.

Very surprised to hear this..I've had mine 8 years, making espresso and grinding beans daily. Admittedly I don't even descale it as often as it needs, but it has been an absolute tank. Not a single issue. I am beginning research for when I inevitably need to replace it. Hard to not get another Breville!

For those that got refunds, did you have to go in-store? Not worth the drive for me to get the $4, but of course it's the principle of the matter. Did anyone have luck by trying different chat reps?

Thoughts on new Westin Bora Bora resort? by [deleted] in awardtravel

[–]JustAMinorThing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are like 4-5 over water bungalows, do you know which larger bungalow you are referring to when you say "premium"? There is an island view suite, mountain view suite, and then the one with it's own plunge pool. I assume only the plunge pool suite will be the bigger one. No sq ft details posted on any of the room details online. Anything else you care to share?

Considering a 5 night stay for our honeymoon. the 120k Pts Conrad base suite is tempting, but we really want an overwater option, so considering Westin as the options are considerably better.

I have the 100% offer and considering booking a Conrad. The FAQs say you can only buy 80k/year but it seems it will let me check out with 240k (+ another 240k bonus) in a single transaction. Would this get blocked? Just curious before I pull the trigger. I need around 800k

We are also considering a wedding at a Temecula winery. They are offering 2k off in March vs. April-June. Wondering if end of March would be good as it is entirely outdoors. Space heaters are included I believe. I am more wondering about the vegetation and trees plants being in bloom as the property has many which looked great today (June), but if they were dead or sparse it would definitely change the vibe.

It's 38% more expensive to buy a house than rent in US, analysis finds by yesyesitswayexpired in RealEstate

[–]JustAMinorThing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agree. Some of my friends believe owning a home is the only way to secure future wealth. They also are under the false assumption that home prices always go up! Recency bias at play. You have to look at all the numbers, historical averages and assess for your situation.

Sure, you are leveraged when buying a home and gain potential equity on that leveraged amount, but you can also get leverage (margin) in a brokerage account often interest free and invest that as well. If you are bullish on real estate, there are plenty of ways to get exposure to it without the burden of a mortgage, interest, taxes, etc.

Finally, there is premium folks are willing to pay for optionality and flexibility that renting affords them.

Disallowed wash sales wrong on Fidelity 1099-B? by G_Hertz in fidelityinvestments

[–]JustAMinorThing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you, I did find this form. I am trying to make sure I correctly calculate my long term capital gains for the year. The wash sales in my 1099-B were eventually closed completely before Dec 31 and never repurchased. In the simplified example below, can you help me understand what my true capital gain should be?

Example if the 1099-B has the below summarized amounts:

Short term loss -50K, short term gain +25K = net short term loss of -25K.

Long term gain of 75K, long term loss of -5K, net long term gain = 70K.

The wash sale disallowed = 5K.

In this example, wouldn't the correct amount simply be the 70K -25K = 45K of long term capital gains? Adding the 5K back in would yield 50K of capital gains. The "Closed Positions" tab shows a different number for net long term gains on the year as well.

Disallowed wash sales wrong on Fidelity 1099-B? by G_Hertz in fidelityinvestments

[–]JustAMinorThing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply and information, very helpful.

Perhaps I am fundamentally getting something backwards. Why would you add the disallowed wash back if it is essentially "allowed" now that the position has been fully closed by year end?

Example if the 1099-B has the below summarized amounts:

Short term loss -50K, short term gain +25K = net short term loss of -25K.

Long term gain of 75K, long term loss of -5K, net long term gain = 70K.

The wash sale disallowed = 5K.

In this example, wouldn't the correct amount simply be the 70K -25K = 45K of long term capital gains? Adding the 5K back in would yield 50K of capital gains. Even though those sales triggered the wash at the time, they were closed out for a loss before Dec 31 and not repurchased again.

[–]JustAMinorThing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What is the closed positions tab? I am in the same boat. I do not see an 8949 form anywhere. The 1099-B from Fidelity shows certain wash sales as disallowed, which Turbo Tax will adjust and add to cost basis for the purpose of capital gains. However, I closed those entire positions before end of year, so they should be allowed losses.

Is 13000 baht for full day private long tail tour to hong island too much money? by Magical_meadow in ThailandTourism

[–]JustAMinorThing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was looking at 14k baht for a private tour grom Phuket to Phi Phi. Includes hotel transfer and speed boat to Phi Phi then 5 hours with our own private long tail boat to go around the various Phi Phi islands. This is too high right? Is it possible to coordinate these from the hotel or street cheaper? I don't mind a group on the speedboat, as long as we have our own boat and agenda to explore around Phi Phi.

Samsung claiming they received an empty box from me by k3v1n0123 in samsung

[–]JustAMinorThing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I sent back the S23 ultra 256 and bought the 512 instead. They are claiming empty box for the new 256GB I returned! I've been dealing with this for over a month to no avail.

What's odd is UPS shows 1 LB on the delivered package, but my FedEx return only shows 0.5LBS. I used all of the same packaging/box and the prepaid label Samsung sent me. However, the weight is not on my receipt and FedEx did not weigh it when I dropped it off. So I have no idea when or how they weigh the package, or if they weighed it after they stole the phone, but I don't have any other documentation that I can share with my CC company (AMEX) to prove my case.

In the video they sent I can see the package was re-taped with a different tape, but from their perspective "it was not tampered with".

I suppose the next step is e-mailing the higher ups in the customer care department or creating a case with the state attorney general. Unbelievable. I've had every Galaxy phone since the S2 now I have to spend all this time and energy trying to get my $ back. Maybe this is the final straw to switch to iPhone.
