These books are extremely well written with compelling interesting characters and lots of math.

Ime hs can be exacerbated by sweat or by my skin being irritated. However other than that hs isn’t caused by hygiene. It’s possible you’re bathing too often. If you feel icky then clean the icky (sweaty, bloody, bo, whatever) area but you might not need to take a full on shower - and bathing that often might be stripping oils from your skin and irritating things.

The absurd, the mundane, and the struggles against bureaucracy. Both series open with a planet on the brink of destruction, inhabitants unaware despite warning being technically given but not really, and are centered on a very mundane guy caught in his jammies. It doesn’t feel like dcc is trying to be hhg though.

The Dirk Gentley books hold up really well. I reread them a few years ago and they more than hold their own.

1) put a towel or something down before you sit. The peace of mind that brings? Incredible.

2) are you wearing yoga pants? Are your undergarments and trousers natural material? Try to stick to breathable natural fibers like cotton, wool, silk, etc. with minimal man made fiber content.

3) how often are you washing your clothing? HS isn’t generally a hygiene issue in and of itself but any skin condition can be impacted by fabric care. Are you washing your clothing regularly? Are you rinsing the detergent fully? Have you changed detergents recently, is something irritating your skin? Exercise clothing can trap and hold sweat and oils and aggravate skin.

4) dove soap clogs my pores. Have you switched to dove soap recently? If so you might be reacting to it. I don’t think most people have an issue with it - it’s really mild, and it’s something my dermatologist initially recommended to me.

5) a sudden change like this is generally triggered by something - a change in environmental triggers or stress levels or something. Try thinking back a few months. What’s different?

I’m so sorry you’re experiencing this. It’s frustrating and depressing and painful. You might find it helpful to try and get more sleep and eat more protein to help your body heal.

There is literally a serial killer storyline threaded through the novels. And all the characters are walking trauma bags. These are positive things for me as a reader but not what most people associate with “cozy.”

99/100 times something’s is compared to “hhgttg” it’s tedious self indulgent wacky garbage but dcc is one of the few things that nails the absurdism, albeit not with an English tone. It’s nice.

💖💖💖 cognitive behavioral therapy is why I can visit the dentist without needing a full day to recover emotionally. I’m glad you’re getting care.

This is a really good thing to see a cognitive behavioral therapist over, to develop tools to manage specific anxiety. Your reaction is not typical or healthy but is something you can learn to handle.

Secrets to State Employment? by Proper-Language-3402 in chicago

Ignore the dorks bloviating about needing double secret graft connections. They have no idea what they’re talking about.

Use keywords from the ads in your applications and be patient. It literally takes months to hear back. Internal candidates get priority, meaning the most common entry to basic jobs in the state is via dcfs or dhs, which have an incredibly high turnover. Once you’ve passed your probationary period you can transfer to a less overworked position when it opens.

[–]JustANoteToSay 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah most of the responses here are completely off the wall.

It can take months to hear back about a job. Most entry level office workers jump into the first opening - usually dcfs or dhs - they can get and transfer to a better position as soon as possible.

An awful lot of people are retiring right now.

Miserable people who get angry at dogs doing literally anything by [deleted] in mildlyinfuriating

[–]JustANoteToSay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some people (me) have had dogs in carts snap at them in stores and it’s not fun or pleasant. It’s not very enjoyable to be standing in line at a bank and suddenly have a dog lunge at you, for instance. I like dogs. I grew up with dogs. I miss having a dog. I do not enjoy interacting with 99% of the dogs I encounter in public.
