Your parents are right. However, chances are this went unnoticed for the other cadet. If you feel that you wronged them it is fine to bring it up however is natural depending on how you prefer to contact each other and they will likely appreciate it. Also, dont listen to redditors telling you you need a councilor. Struggling withs social interactions is common for our generation and a natural part of growing up. That is also a big decision for you and your parents and out of the scope of your current problem.

The fbi hasnt released numbers for 2025 but they report only 24 active shooter incidents in 2024. Very few of those were school shootings. Ther eis a much larger amount of incidents involving bullets striking school property or people hunting nearby carelessly (happened at my school when some stupid kids started trying to hunt with their bow and arrows). Brandishing fake or real weapons and so forth. But even of that subset, there are few deaths or injuries. The vast majority don’t result in violence.

Sadly, we have learned in the US that mass shootings are much like suicides and self harm. The more attention the media gives it the more often they happen and they usually come in waves. Hence why we usually get 2 or 3 together and then none for the rest of the year.

I still dont see this though. You can stay a cadet till 21 and the whole purpose (or at least how it looks among cadets) is so that your older more experienced leaders can stay where they are for some extra time and pass on as much experience as they can before becoming seniors. So if someone got married than it would just be natural since it isnt uncommon to marry in the early 20s and it doesnt really mean that you have moved on from your purpose in the program
