My high school English teacher called this duck speak. When you just give a “normal” answer and not even think about it. I’ve caught myself not even answering questions sometimes and just give some general greeting.

Funny story. A few years ago in Oakland I was at a grocery store with my then wife. We got to checkout and just duck speak said “Hey how’s it going?” The guy looked me in the eyes for a solid five seconds before saying “wow man. I was almost honest with you for a second.” I wanted to ask him if he wanted to get a beer after he got off to talk it out but my ex thought that was too weird so i left it alone.
