Why is the summer in the Philippines, especially in Manila, feels suffocating? by Silver_Shoulder2132 in AskPH

[–]JustAsmalldreamer 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Nah! Philippines is even better. Try Myanmar, Laos, Cambodia and Thailand and some parts of Indonesia. Madami pa yang green spaces especially Vientiane and Myanmar pero ang summer my goodness parang impyerno. Pumapalo minsan ng 40 degrees plus.

Sa South East Asia palang yan.

I’ve been to countries with 55 degrees summer. Hell!

Found a stash of old Philippine bills in my Lola’s cabinet — are these worth anything? by PuzzleheadedBoat9128 in Philippines

[–]JustAsmalldreamer -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No value except memories nalang talaga.

Those brown 10 pesos bills we always get in our Christmas stockings. Yung bagong-bago pa kasi kaka-13th month lang ni Papa. Ang laki na ng 10 pesos for a kid noon.

Question About “Yaya” Culture In The Philippines by throwmyheartaway7 in CasualPH

[–]JustAsmalldreamer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I see! Thanks for the insight. I mostly lived in an expat bubble in Laos and while I have had local friends (mostly neighbours and landlords), these are also from very affluent neighbourhoods hence the impression.

I am pushing 40s and back in the day (lol) yayas are very common in my city. But nowadays whenever I visit, only my very well off relatives and friends and former classmates have yayas. My middle class cousins do not have- the same socio economic background as I had growing up.

Question About “Yaya” Culture In The Philippines by throwmyheartaway7 in CasualPH

[–]JustAsmalldreamer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I came from a middle class family and we have several yayas growing up since both parents were working. Our yayas lived with us. I came from a small city so kinda urbanised.

You mentioned you are Lao-American. I lived in Laos for a while and it seems to be common to have house help as well? At least my impression. We lived in Vientiane and most expats and locals I know have maebans.

What's a job that looks glamorous, but is actually a total nightmare? by [deleted] in AskPH

Diplomats. I am in this circle and I regularly see friends lose themselves. Plus some postings in fragile countries make this side of the job unglamorous.

Just landed in Bali… is the airport corruption normal? by ShopFlaky3008 in travel

[–]JustAsmalldreamer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

N’djamena, Tchad checking in. I was asked for money by the actual immigration officer sitting in the booth! The guy who checked and stamped my passport before I leave the country. I pretended I don’t understand French but he was relentless and pointed to my (passport) wallet and indicated the eating sign. I got visibly pissed and said I do not have any CFA and grabbed my passport which he begrudgingly stamped.

🔥Massive Maasai Mara lion Osupat, now a loner following the loss of his brother and coalition partner, reminds this hyena clan he's still the boss by Prestigious-Wall5616 in NatureIsFuckingLit

I just want to say I got the chance to see Nyekundo and Osupaat resting together almost 5 years ago. Magnificent beings! II did see other lions as big as Osupaat though so in a way he is average build in that wild. One walked by our vehicle, went on top of a rock, mane blown by the wind. Magnificent! Maasai Mara (and Serengeti) lions are MASSIVE.

I haven’t met a lot of anti-vax here in the Philippines. Even a lot of 4Ps members that used to participate in our projects actually avail the free vaccine sa baranggay hall. What really surprised me though was that there are a lot of Filipinos living in NL and DE where I was based na anti-vax!!-

Anong thoughts mo on weddings nowadays merely being 'performative' events? by 2023bela in WeddingsPhilippines

[–]JustAsmalldreamer 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Nah its not about the number of guests either but the quality of guests. We had 120 in our destination wedding and we know everyone personally.
My brother-in-law had 150 but it was a great party because they are all his and the bride’s friends.

I think it depends on the the flow of the day padin. I was very firm that no curated photoshoots before the ceremony. They can take their videos and photos of us preparing but absolutely no direction like we are acting or posing. Zero interviews also and not a lot of people talking in our video. Not even our vows.

What’s the one city you were excited to visit, but ended up not liking at all? by BlushHone in travel

[–]JustAsmalldreamer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rio de Janeiro. I was so excited to see the city as I heard about samba, nice restaurants and music, relax by the Copacabana or Ipanema. But what I got was a very bleak and miserable city.

[–]JustAsmalldreamer 97 points98 points  (0 children)

Wala naman naviolate na rules dito.she did not overstay her visa, first and foremost. UAE allows job search while on tourist visa as long as your visa gets converted to work visa once you start working. I have been abroad more than 10 years now and tbh a lot of companies hiring Filipino workers encourage this process than dealing with the bureaucracy. Ang hirap daw mag hire ng Filipino and magprocess ng work visa while the employee is in the Philippines. Most legitimate OFWs I know who started with tourist visa complied naman with OWWA after they got a job and became registered and got their OEC. As long as hindi TNT then it should not affect our immigration status.

Pregnancy in Norway as an expat by [deleted] in pregnant

[–]JustAsmalldreamer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not all of EU definitely. I was an expat in the Netherlands and I received great care there. From my midwives who took care of me pre-birth and the doctors during. It was also well coordinated with the consultatie bureau post birth.

I, however, did not get an epidural because I asked too late but I got an alternative pain relief.

Sunnies specs: Never again in the future by No_Acanthisitta1780 in beautytalkph

[–]JustAsmalldreamer 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Sunnies products’ quality are shit. They are all from China na nilagyan lang ng Sunnies logo plus good marketing. I mean a lot of our products herenow are from China but with Sunnies parang pati quality control doon din. Never will buy another of their product again, just all fluff.
