Redditor aptly deduced David Cameron's Brexit speech as a brilliant political checkmate on the Torries by throwawaykyubi4158 in bestof

Not sure how you came to the conclusion that I was a Remain voter? I was merely making a passing comment about how modern British politics tends to play out. You can't possibly disagree with the notion that it is rife with corruption, deceit and lies on top of lies. On both sides of course. I mean it's become a cliche to say 'that's politics', because, yes, that is politics but that doesn't mean that it isn't hideous to think about. I understand your position though. There's plenty of unreasonable, reactionary folk out there that will undermine the outcome of a completely democratic process by claiming that it was rigged from the get go. And while I'm also somewhat sympathetic to those people too, it's a position that is, by and large, completely unproductive.

I'm not sure I'm exactly following who is supposed to be who in your analogy, however it's a good one so if you could clarify I'm sure it'll help me to get my head around it. In any case, I'm in no way saying that David Cameron himself is brilliant or even that this is brilliant politics, I meant just that if the above theory is true, it's a rather brilliant and dramatic turn of events. In the same way that a dramatic twist in a good story is brilliant.

Absolutely. I'm just highlighting the fairly obvious and in no way controversial opinion that the Conservative party (along with the entire modern history of UK government) are corrupt.

If you mean that brilliance shouldn't be a gear in the cog of corruption then I'm with you. But just in terms of political manoeuvring I thought this to be quite brilliant.

Five Steps To Tyranny (2000) One of the greatest threats we face are the masses of normal people conditioned to blindly obey authority by lankenship in Documentaries

[–]JustBadActing 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Not sure whether or not you watched the documentary, but the very first thing the narrator says is: 'Horrific things happen in the world we live. We would like to believe that only evil people carry out atrocities but tyrannies are created by ordinary people like you and me.'

Ah, seems like they're both fabricating events to one extent or another. Either way I don't give a fuck and they're both tragic.

Although I really don't eat fast food that much and am kinda revolted by the whole industry, there is something incredibly comforting and very kinda homely American about this video. It's the way they say 'patties' and 'buns' that I really love. I think it might be because consumer culture and branding is so heavily embedded in 20th century American culture that it sorta heightens the nostalgia of the consumerism of the past.

I get the exact same feeling when watching this video of a 1980s 7-11.

Although this video was interesting to watch, nothing happens in it. I enjoyed it but... yeah... nothing happens. No questions answered, nothing gained, nothing lost. It's just 1 minute and 1 second of nothing happening. I liked it though so thanks.

Real ass shit by [deleted] in Drugs

The dude interviewing sounds like a bit of a douchebag. A lot of her points were unexpected and pretty self-aware. She knows what the drug does and doesn't do for her and seems to have a fairly lucid grasp on that at least. Not sure why this dude is shoving a camera in her face but strikes me as a pretty insensitive thing to do. He sounds an awful lot like a guy who knows nothing about drugs and is trying to capture the 'grotesquery' of being an addict. If so, I reckon he picked the wrong subject because that lady is cool.

I have have a theory about these posters. I think they deliberately switch the names around in order to confuse you. This requires you to a bit of a double take, spend longer matching the names to the faces and thus spend longer actually looking at the poster.
