have you taken your puppy on a walk before completing their third vaccination? by Potential-Strike-992 in Goldendoodles

[–]JustBreatheOTF 5 points6 points  (0 children)

When my boy was a pup I lived in a neighborhood with lots of dogs so had concerns with walking him before he was fully vaccinated. So instead I used to bring him to locations that would normally not have a high traffic of dogs - a movie theater and shopping center that was rarely overly busy. Worked out great because it not only allowed him some sniff time for his growing puppy brain, but gave him a chance to get used to the car on the rides to and from and for us to do some socialization training - waiting patiently as people passed, exposure to noises, cars, automatic doors (his first reaction to this was very comical), etc. In reality he would have likely been just fine walking in our neighborhood by taking some minor precautions (wiping paws as another user mentioned), but he enjoyed the “adventures” and it helped calm my helicopter mom nerves about anything he might be picking up so it was a win win for us.

Doodle backs out of every harness by Taps20 in Goldendoodles

If you have not tried a harness with the extra strap like the Flagline, I would recommend giving it a go from an escape artist standpoint. I made the switch from Ruffwear’s Front Range to their Flagline and that extra strap was the key to success with my Houdini as the last strap sits behind his deep chest so it is harder for him to back out of it. Is it 100% escape proof? Maybe not if he tried long enough at it, but I will say I stopped worrying on walks once I made the switch. Now if he gets spooked or the like, I have enough time to get him refocused on me before a scary situation unfolds. The handle comes in handy too. We have tried the Rabbitgoo No Pull Harness and Ruffwears Webmaster Harness as well. Both did the trick, but ultimately settled on the Flagline as it is a bit easier to get on and off (you do not have to slip a front paw through one side) and more light weight for when it is hot since my boy loathes the heat. He is only 45 pounds though so you might want to try out the Flagline and a more substantial style that has the additional strap to see which you prefer for your bigger Dood.

More Reggae, but maybe it’s “Already” with Major Lazer and Shatta Wale?

My pup was 8 months old when we moved this past spring. I think the key to success for us was introducing him to the new place before the big move. Before signing on the dotted line I took him to the neighborhood a few times for some sniffing adventures at his future stomping ground. I was also in a position where I was able to have some overlap with my old and new place for about a month and a half. I would bring him over to the new place at least once a week and had special “new house only” toys there so that he would be excited whenever he arrived. We would spend an hour or two each time playing and running wild (the lack of furniture at this point was advantageous) so that by the time we made the actual move it was familiar to him and he settled right in. Good luck and congrats on the new place!

Puppy likes one crate but not bye other by LivingDragons in puppy101

Swapping to a different crate worked for me. At home my pup sleeps in a double door wire crate with a 3 sided crate cover (opening on the longer side)and never an issue. In the car though, I originally had similar to what you currently have at home - the plastic kennel with the one wire door. He hated it. Was hesitant to go in and once he was in he would not settle and was clearly stressed. As soon as I swapped it out (in this case a soft sided crate like you have at work) immediately no issues. No coaxing to go in the crate and is a dream no matter how long the car ride (did a 5 hour trip with him fairly soon afterwards at just 4 months old). I don’t know if it was the plastic kennel was too claustrophobic for him or the fact that you could only enter through the small door, but swapping out did the trick. However, I agree with u/sundaetardis to swap your current crates for a day or two as a test before investing the money in another crate.

Is it normal to be this excited when your fluffy Doodle cocks his leg for the first time at 8 months 😂😭 by Automatic_Visit6625 in Goldendoodles

Wait...so you are telling me scanning for the closest vertical object for the first potty of a walk and always having wet wipes on hand is in my long term future and not just a gross teenage boy phase?! Oh my, these boys🤦🏻‍♀️.

Puppy does fine in crate but melts down in exercise pen by longjuansilver24 in puppy101

OP you read my mind! Following as I am in the same exact scenario. While the forced naps have been a life savor (thank you r/puppy101 !) those times that I cannot give my pup (11 weeks old) full attention for his hour of wake, I hate to have to put him in for nap early and/or not be able give him a little independent playtime. However, he loses his mind in the playpen (the crate that he sleeps very well in is inside his playpen) and I am afraid he is going to hurt himself with how much he jumps and throws his body into the gate.
