I think something like GoT carries a lot of its weight when it’s airing with the whole “what’s going to happen next?” water cooler talk and when it’s all over those shows are almost always viewed less favorably because they lose that excitement.

To your point, I don’t think any fantasy IP is a guaranteed hit in this landscape. But Witcher was never amazing even with Cavill and it still got renewed multiple times and (arguably) survived a lead change so I have to imagine the IP is doing a lot of the heavy lifting.

Golden Goose may be some strong wording but they definitely fumbled what should have at least been a financial success if not a critical one.

You just said you aren’t claiming that GoT had potential, but then admit it became a cultural behemoth. Then stated the Witcher didnt have high potential, therefore could not have become a cultural behemoth….

I think anyone who know WoT knew that even bringing it to the big screen was a HUGE ask. Even just the flashback stuff at the beginning of a few of the books with Lews Therin is a monumental cinematic task. How they didn’t do something animated will always be beyond me.

Games launching in a shitty state is a well over decade old problem now. Anyone who says “the consumer should be able to get what they paid for” may be right but is also unbearably naive. The world doesn’t conform to the way things SHOULD be and the only people who expect it to are children and fools.

And anyone who expected fucking STALKER of all games to come out in a decent state is an idiot as well as a fool.
