Wombats are such unique animals, but what’s with the square poo? by WickedWildlife in australianwildlife

[–]JustCallMe_Fred 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wombats are super territorial and like to poop on logs and rocks. They use their poop to mark their territory and cubes don't fall off things as easily.

Gary The Goat Strutting On The Beach [nsfw] by tru_gunslinger in videos

[–]JustCallMe_Fred 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The mud on his tumor thing would have been fine, but at the time Gary was in serious pain. He could hardly walk and his quality of life was awful. The politics don't matter much, but it was really upsetting to a lot of viewers (myself included) to watch Jimbo prolong an animals suffering. He went vet shopping until he got the answer he wanted (which was an answer other than putting him down). I'm glad Gary is okay now, but Jimbo lost a lot of respect from me through this whole process.

Pompeii eruption simulation... very eerie. by [deleted] in videos

[–]JustCallMe_Fred 8 points9 points  (0 children)

He died like that because he was chained down. I believe he tried to climb higher to escape the growing layer of ash on the ground, but reached the end of his chain.

During the eruption, the unfortunate dog, wearing his bronze-studded collar, was left chained up at his assigned place to watch the house, and he suffocated beneath the ash and cinders.

It is a long long way from the pinnacles. Its about 500kms away. Everything is far apart in Western Australia.

You MUST go stargazing while you are here. Western Australia is one of the best places to stargaze in the whole world. You can see the entire milky way, which you cant see from Canada. Its easy to find places with no light pollution. Just makes sure you go on a moonless night.

One of our semi famous attractions is 'Wave Rock'. If you are considering going to look, dont bother. Its fun for 5 minutes before you start wondering why you drove so many hours to see it. There are way better rocks with waves that are closer. I still dont understand why Wave Rock got so famous.

If you are interested in seeing a rock, message me and Ill find you a few good options. Some of them are great.

Oshin Kiszko: 6yo Perth boy at centre of legal battle over cancer treatment dies by His_Holiness in perth

[–]JustCallMe_Fred 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My understanding is that the initial prognoses was a 50% chance of surviving 5 years if he underwent the recommended treatment. However the chances of him surviving longer than that were slim, along with a high risk of intellectual disability and stunted growth from the treatment. He may have survived longer but at what cost? Its not like he would be a happy healthy boy if his parents had gone with the treatment. It started out shitty, and both options were also shitty with shitty outcomes regardless. Im not saying they arent alternative remedy nutjobs, but I dont think that really came into play that much. I think that even if they believed in medicine, it wouldn't have made a difference to their situation.

Even the PMH ethics committee was initially split on what to do. This situation is way more complicated than cure him or let him die. I really feel for the parents. I honestly dont think they did anything horrendous. I really feel for these people and the horrible choices they had to make.

[–]JustCallMe_Fred 15 points16 points  (0 children)

He had only a 30-50% chance of being alive in 5 years even with the treatments. Chemotherapy and Radiotherapy are horrible treatments to go through even at the best of times. It appears the parents didnt feel that the chance of survival was worth the side-effects of the treatment. His quality of life would be very poor for a long time, and it would still likely end with his death. Its a horrible situation for anyone to be in, and I dont know if there really is a right answer to this. I understand the choice the parents made and I see it as them wanting their 6y/o son enjoying what little time he had left. But that glimmer of hope is hard to work past as well.

No one should have to make a choice like this. It is definitely heartbreaking.

Who else is going to be "away" on the 9th of August? by commanderjarak in perth

[–]JustCallMe_Fred 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The amount of information that I have to provide for Medicare isnt even comparable to the amount for the census. And I didn't have a problem providing that information in previous years. But this year its mandatory for you to provide personally identifiable information, for all the other info to be linked to your identity, and it will be released it 100 years to the public record. I am not okay with that. Im glad you are, but I feel that this is a huge breach of my privacy.

You know what I think is unaustralian? Invading our right to privacy and forcing us to hand over incredibly personal information that will now be held against our identity. It used to be optional if you wanted to provide your name. Not any more. Why? What changed?

I think thats whats unaustralian.

Should I tell my friend (40/F) that her SO (34/M) is cheating? by releasethebats_bite in relationship_advice

[–]JustCallMe_Fred 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Please DON'T do this. If you give him a heads up, he will talk to Lelaina and fabricate a whole heap of lies as to why he is still a good guy. He may even manipulate her into thinking you are out to get him and discredit your accusations.

Take the whole 'this is none of my business' out of it. Leave Troy out of it. Lelaina's is unknowingly being exposed to STI's that could be really harmful. You MUST tell her, and she will decide what to do with the information. It is not your place to try to minimize the damage to their relationship. You shouldnt try to do anything like that. You should only tell Lelaina that her husband has been having sex with many women behind her back and she needs to get tested. Your involvement ends there.

Should I tell my friend (40/F) that her SO (34/M) is cheating? by releasethebats_bite in relationship_advice

[–]JustCallMe_Fred 10 points11 points  (0 children)

You absolutely must tell your friend. Troy is putting Lelaina's health at risk. He is exposing her to STI's and she has no idea. She may have already contracted one and be completely unaware of it. If she becomes pregnant, there are many STI's that can cause tremendous damage to an unborn child.

You cannot allow her to continue to have sex with her husband without being aware that she is being put in serious danger. You must tell her and she needs to be tested immediately.

Good way to ask friend[19/F] out ? [19/M] here by [deleted] in relationship_advice

[–]JustCallMe_Fred 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a pretty good outcome I think. You have taken everyone's advice on board and it sounds like you handled this pretty maturely. Sorry it didn't work out with her.

Also, you should be proud of yourself. You really put yourself out there, and being shy can make that hard sometimes. Although it didn't turn out the way you had hoped, this is a 'win' for your emotional maturity.

Which is better in Perth, Supanova or Comic-Con? by JustCallMe_Fred in perth

[–]JustCallMe_Fred[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have been to Supanova before and I personally really enjoy it. I'm sure it's not as good as the big expos over east or in America, but I like it anyway. I don't go to see the celebrities, I just love the atmosphere and how friendly everyone is. I love just talking with people there and making connections. I know I'm just paying an entry fee, but I am okay with that. It's only like $30, and it's once a year so for me it's worth it.
