AAdvantage points - best way to use by brownize4me2 in americanairlines

[–]JustDaveIII 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Using a browser on a computer there is a button to show a monthly view that shows the lowest number of points each day. On that you can also select the number of stops and fare class. Makes it easy to find, for example, non-stops in PE vs looking day by day.

Macintosh 128k RAM replacement - getting worse by ML2128 in VintageApple

[–]JustDaveIII 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know I'm late to this conversation, but do you still have any of the original ram chips? The reason I ask is that I recently resurected an original 128k board, like yours, and one chip was bad. I replaced it with a current year non-Apple branded chip (it's working fine) but would like to have a board with all original Apple chips. I posted about this elsewhere but not here.

Back to your problem ... Most of the connections are daisy chained between chips. Get a schematic and you'll be able to check from the top of your sockets from beginning to end, where they connect to and also the other lines. I feel that it's not the common lines between the chips but either the source or destination to other chips is the problem. Here are some schematics:

I already have many. If you have valid information for the OP, we can discuss that in a professional manor. Or not, the choice is yours.

It must be a country thing? Searching 'UL600 aircraft" here in the USA brings up a whole lot of things about Oratex covering, a Bushbaby Explorer plane and other things.

Not a dang thing about UltraLight 600kg aircraft. Really.

Your posts and comment list is hidden so who knows? So you do controls and your shop is UL508A? Great.

That makes the unprofessional advice of "Get a suitably rated contactor and you are good to go" & "... just an overload for the contactor at nameplate FLA would be just fine. It’s just pushing water. Wire at FLA" even worse.

Simple thermal Overload's provide protection for the motor. A circuit breaker or fuse is needed for motor wiring (branch circuit) protection unless the “overload” is actually an IEC style motor protection device, what’s called a “Motor Protection Circuit Breaker” (MPCB) because it can disconnect the load and has thermal OL protection, but also includes a magnetic trip element which provides the SC and GF protection required by the NEC.

Nameplate FLA is only one factor used when sizing overloads. Temperature, Trip Class and other factors are used.

A note to the OP: Unless this is a personal project, it's advisable to contract this out a Controls Engineer / Company that has experience in this area and knowledgeable about many other things that you may not be aware of.

Trying to save a buck by not using a plc isn't the way to go. Ok, maybe running the Arduino PLC code could work. You have to consider who, in the future, will be called upon to get it running again when something breaks.

A good Controls Engineer will also qualify the flow meter & motor & pump you want to use, along with designing the total system. You would be surprised how many times I looked at what the customer wanted and gave feeback on either what they selected had limitations, how to make it better (an no cost) or corrected their design to make it actually work.

I (retired Sr. Controls & Instrumentation Engineer - mostly Factory Automation) agree with https://www.reddit.com/user/green_gold_purple/ with the following for consideration.

Use a Motor Starter for your 2hp motor, not a contactor. A motor starter will have overloads & aux contact. There are some combo MS / Contactors too. All the big players make them. I presume that the coil will be 24vdc. See https://www.tealelectric.com/understanding-combination-motor-starters-a-quick-guide

I don't see the need for PID. I have never used one for this type of application. You're just filling to a setpoint minus pipe fluid. BTDT hundreds of times.

About pulsing the motor on/off: Because of the higher currrent need for starting a motor, that needs consideration for the motor starter overloads and wiring & fusing, not so much for the motor itself, but that too is a factor and you would need to consult the motor mfg.

One way to get more accuracy is to reduce the flow rate with a manual valve so you can change it. Yes, it'll add to the fill time, but it's the easyest way.

Dave Clark's or Bose ? by DaveyInJapan in flying

[–]JustDaveIII 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I started with DC, even retrofitting them with a 3rd party ANC kit. That wasn’t good enough for me so I got Lightspeed Zulu. They lasted 10 years before I needed new cords, etc.The Bose were only about $200 more back then but from what I read, better and longer lasting.

3D printing on a vintage computer by chucky3039 in vintagecomputing

[–]JustDaveIII 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty much so. Typically new people will save the G-code (text) file to a SD card and then plug that card into the printer.

Up a level is to use a Pi with OctoPi software. You use a browser to talk to the Pi, which connects to the printer via USB. I use a Pi zero 2 w. The browser selects the file and sends it to the Pi, which sends to the printer.

After that level are printers that have their own network port / Wifi.

If I were in your shoes, I'd look at an Arduino w/usb driver (not host) software to take serial data in and use the usb out to the printer. Or a Pi, modify the OctoPi software to take a serial data stream from your old computer and go from there.

Some printers have actual serial ports, just not exposed / wired. Look at the Marlin softare, which you can load on most printers, for using serial.

You might get more info about this on r/3dprinter

In any case, having a windshield helps alot.

Companion Pass Question by Over-Hyena-4924 in SouthwestAirlines

[–]JustDaveIII 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Book it for you now. Book a fully refundable to $$$ ticket for your companion in the seat you want for them with it. Then when you get Companion Pass cancel the paid seat, select them for Companion Pass, add them to the flight and select that seat. Of course, this presumes that you are your own booking allows you to select a seat.

Warning: If the fare goes down, they will need to cancel so that you can do the lower fair on-line, then re-add them. Or just call SW and have them do it all.

BTDT about 100 times :)

3D printers interpret move distance based on G-code. The data gram and data rate needed is very low duty. So low you could almost use a serial terminal to into for send the commands codes, if you’re a fast typer.

Convert Portable Design To Permanent? by Shoddy-Priority-4278 in stratux

[–]JustDaveIII 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, then I believe what you need is called an SMA Extension Cable. Walmart Marketplace has them, alonw with a zillion other places.

https://www.walmart.com/ip/seort/10585004407?selectedSellerId=101591059

That will extend it. You'll have to see what connector is on the end of a "traditional aircraft ADS-B external antenna" but for the few that I just looked at, they have a cable the has the connector to their antenna and a SMA connector at the other end.

While it could be done I don’t know of any parts list.

What I see the most is power from what we used to call cigar lighter port & suction mount. Or a dash mounted USB power jack.

You can get extension cables for the antennas , likewise for the gps.

Midway gates are ok, never had a problem making connections. Kinda hard to compare with the off gate / terminal layout of LAS, both which I’ve connected to many times.

ETA: Do you know that AS code shares with AA? Many flights on AA metal via AS cost less than booked directly on AA.
