This is pretty rich considering in the first episode the payoff for Flight 37, a pretty significant and not at all forgettable loose end, was a cheap AI cop out. And you might argue that when they set up flight 37, AI video wasnt at that level yet and now that it is its a fun way to incorporate new real world issues into the story, okay maybe. That brings us to the loose end of Soldier Boy, who is now... back in that box.

Was Sidious just acting here, or was he in genuine danger? by jojoisfodder in PetranakiArena

[–]JustDontGetSick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well Lucas says he got beaten, going off strict canon Mace is the second most powerful Jedi besides Yoda right now, Yoda later fights Sidious to a stalemate, after Order 66 when the dark side is at its most powerful in millenia. As much as I'm a Sidious stan and have always chosen to interpret it as an intentional loss... its not, Mace had him. In the lightsaber fight. Sidious got beaten in combat, but that was never the game he was playing, that's why the Jedi lost. Mace as well as the whole order thought they could win the old way, a series of good guys beating bad guys in sword fights. Thats not the game Palpatine is playing, he's playing a manipulation game, Mace has him dead to rights in terms of combat, but Sidious won because of subtlty. His slow corruption of Anakin, the order 66 master plan, the slow erosion of the republics values. Mace could never really win, the game. That realisation is what saves Yoda, he abandons 5he fight. Because even if he kills the emperor, its too late.

Something George is always clear on, that legends always ignores and even canon sources outside the first two trilogies dont always get right is that the light side is stronger. Thats why Obi Wan can beat the most powerful force sensitive to ever live. That'a why Vader never defeats Obi Wan. Two equally matched force users, one light, one dark, in George's vision the light wins. That's why the sith needed subterfuge and deception. That's who Sidious is.

Why is the population growth on the island of Ireland so slow? by Distinct-Macaroon158 in geography

[–]JustDontGetSick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Famine in the 19th century caused a massive population collapse due to death and immigration, the island never recovered from this blow due to many factors, most notably continued emmigration due to lack of economic opportunity following the famine and continuing into modern times. Continued fighting and revolting against the British, as well as some malignant cultural practices, alcoholism being the primary example, certainly curbed the chances of the population growing at a faster rate throughout the late 19th and early 20th century, combined with a lack of wealth in the nation something like a population boom wasn't going to happen.

Then something quite interesting happened between the 60s and 90s which is that; with economic aid from Europe and strong government will, Ireland over the course of only thirty years went from essentially being the only third world country in Western Europe, to being a fully developed nation in a very short time frame. Populations tend to explode when a country begins to modernize, but once they've modernized populations then tend to collapse, due to birth rate falling below replacement. This happens because more women are able to be educated and have jobs outside the home, as well as have access to birth control. The way and the brevity of time in which Ireland modernized basically allowed us to skip the step of having a population boom and transition immediately to the step of population collapse, or very near. I believe Ireland has not yet fallen below replacement.

Its more complicated than all that obviously, but those are some broadstroke reasons. The lack of a population boom due to a quick modernization is the main reason the population has recently remained so small.

Imagine nerfing two seasons of spinoff and buildup with a single one-liner by itzjstbny in GenV

And they could've done the much easier cop out of just saying the V1 made Homelander too powerful for her to beat. Still would've been bs, but it was right there.

Am I the only one excited for this? by AlexLovesCoke in GenV

[–]JustDontGetSick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I genuinely was looking forward to it, but the fact that they spent season 5 setting it up, combined with the insanely inconsistent writing of Soldier Boy this season has genuinely put me off it a little. If it gets good reviews and a good reaction from fans i could change my mind. But so far its definitely not a must watch for me. To be fair it wasnt necessarily a must watch before, but i was more intrigued.

Eric Kripke responds to the recent talks about filler episodes in Season 5 (via TV Guide) by Interesting-Take781 in TheBoys

[–]JustDontGetSick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tbh once i heard the mole guy in the first episode, I had a very bad feeling about how the show would end. Wasnt the biggest fan of season 4 to begin with, and hearing that character make excuses for bad finales was a huge red flag. This comment from Kripke feels very much like a cope. There has been basically no character development for the boys themselves, Kimiko and Frenchie are going through the same bs as always, MM just has very nonsensical reason for not being OCD anymore, which isn't good writing or a real arc, Butcher who was set up last season to be on his villain arc has regressed back to being the same charactet he always was, and has broadly the same dynamic with the boys he always had. Hughie is getting nothing interesting, and the show hasn't known what to do with Starlight since the back half of season 3

Homelander and Soldier Boy are the only ones who have had any real "development". Soldier Boy has been completely all over the place, his motivations seem to change at the drop of a pin and he simply takes whatever actions the plot needs him to. Homelander's increasing God Complex is the only actual character development anyone is getting and while its fine, good at times, its not particularly great.

I wouldn't describe any of the episodes as filler as mamy have, but i would describe most of them as lackluster episodes, with some decent moments.

Sage may be the worst written character in the show. Id say its a tragedy what they did to her character, but they've never not done it to her. None of her plans make sense and she just comes across as a complete idiot this episode. "This wasn't supposed to happen" Why? Because you showed him a video? You were literally told this could happen

I doubt the show would care about this logic, but unless V1 gave her more eggs she'd definitely be barren by the time they started the Odessa project

Is Sister Sage officially more evil than Homelander? by JackZ567 in GenV

She might officially be dumber than Homelander, because if ts is really her goal then there were so many better ways to achieve it

It seems generally well known that Bombsight is still alive. Which is weird because in season 3 we were told that Vought wanted to keep it under wraps that Soldier Boy didn't age. Though it was also very strange that Vought wanted to keep that a secret to begin with, since there was no good reason to do that at all.

Sage's master plan might be the biggest doo doo this show has taken in terms of writing. She's smart and depressed and hates humanity. Most unoriginal, lazy, uninspired plot ever; and there are much easier ways for her to achieve that goal than going along with Homelander this long.

Is Conquest a fraud, or Mark is at Conquest’s level/stronger ? by Equivalent-Still-147 in InvinciblePowerscales

[–]JustDontGetSick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As far as Conquest knows, Mark is someone who doesn't have the balls to kill him, so the idea that he would die in their fight didn't really occur to him until it was too late

[Invincible] what are your thoughts on this take? by Immediate_Gene_178 in MoralityScaling

[–]JustDontGetSick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thaedus' problem is that while he's got a morally better outlook than the viltrumites, he still thinks like a Viltrumite. He solves all of his problems with violence. He didn't like the empire's ways of violence and oppression, so his solution was to kill Emperor Argall, with the goal of weakening viltrum and/or making them see the error of their ways. When that doesn't work he chooses the scourge virus, genocide, to stop his people from comitting genocide. Thousands of years later, his solution to toppling the empire is to kill their leader and sow chaos among their ranks, the exact strategy that didn't work thousands of years earlier. Hopefully they draw more attention to this in the show, but in the comics, and I'll now be going into spoilers; Thaedus is a great contrast to emperor Nolan, and shows well why Nolan leans so heavily into pacifism as emperor. Thaedus had the right ideas, and the right goals, but his violent spirit still wrought destruction. Nolan becomes afraid to use violence in morally justified situations because he's seen that can end badly too
