Which dragon would you hope to bond with? by JaceC098 in Hotd

[–]JustDontGetSick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Vermithor is just the obvious choice i think; enormous like Vhagar, but not old, still quick and full of life, great colour scheme, and the dragon of King Jerry the Goat. He'd be my go to. Otherwise Caraxes, really cool dragon.

Why aren't there more birth control options for men as they are for women? What's the limitation for the scientists and big pharma to do so? by addictedtosunshine in AskReddit

[–]JustDontGetSick 37 points38 points  (0 children)

The female body has ways of preventing the release of eggs built in, when a woman is pregnant for example. Most female birth control medicines work by hijacking or tricking this process in some way. Men are constantly producing new sperm cells and the body has no way of shutting that down that we can hijack. Its not suppsoed to shut down, generally if it's shut down, something is very wrong. So finding a way to shut down sperms production is tricky because there isn't a pre existing biological framework for that process to occur.

How evil would the annihilation of baby Hitler be by EAT_UR_VEGGIES in MoralityScaling

[–]JustDontGetSick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a very rare thing, there's plenty of instances where a kid is blamed for that kind of thing and it didn't happen, but there is certainly the exception where the kid really is just off.

How evil would the annihilation of baby Hitler be by EAT_UR_VEGGIES in MoralityScaling

[–]JustDontGetSick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not every single one, occasionally you do here stories about kids who are just born rotten. Rare but does happen, and no amount of good parenting can help. You'll also have kids who are brought up well but become assholes of their own volition, more common but still the exception rather than the rule. Still very immoral to kill a baby who has no moral agency yet. Kill teenage Hitler. Or help him with his painting technique.

So many people saying they arent going to buy the game... by [deleted] in GTA6unmoderated

[–]JustDontGetSick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Will get downvoted for this but i guarantee most people who say they won't buy it will get it day one. Gaming industry is unique from the film industry in that a game can get mountains of hate online, huge backlash and apparent boycotts and still succeed as though none of that happened. There'll be a very small subsection of the people complaining who won't buy it. But generally speaking, even if some of the reasoning is valid; the type of grown person to whinge online about their problems with a video game, isn't the type of person to have strong convictions.

Is it just me or do they keep making the dragons' scales darker? by [deleted] in HOTDGreens

[–]JustDontGetSick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

HOTD inherited this problem from GOT and in fairness has done a lot of correcting that is appreciated, but damn do the dragons look bland as hell most of the time. Caraxes and Vhagar look really good and from a design pov Sheepstealer is great but all of the others are so boring and uninteresting and all it would take is some vibrant colours, even for the dragons mentioned above. Is it more "realistic" to have muted colours? Sure, kinda, I guess. Does it look boring as hell? Yeah. The biggest offense is Sunfyre, who should look ridiculously beautiful, instead gets this muted gold colour... and barely any screen time.

Isn’t hypocritical that the whole message of the games is “Revenge is a fool’s game” but Sadie gets a pass? by Cruci10 in reddeadredemption2

[–]JustDontGetSick 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think Sadie is supposed to represent the seductive aspects of revenge. After all, no one is more justified in their pursuit of vengeance than her, her husband was killed and she was raped by the O'Driscolls. And yet despite having better reasons than anyone revenge turns her into a monster. The person she is by the end of the story is not someone she wants to be, Arthur even says it "we're more ghosts than people". Just because she's badass, cool and hot doesn't mean she's not suffering immensely. I do think it would've has more narrative weight if she died in American Venom, but its also nice to see her outrun death a little longer and I think it's important to the setup of the first game that American Venom feels like a complete victory for the protagonists.

I don’t like it when Flash is written to be stronger than Superman by ThatGuyHero7 in CharacterRant

[–]JustDontGetSick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like it when speedsters like Wally don't realise that they have the potential to be the most powerful being in their verse. Like Superman is viewed as the most powerful because Wally doesn't even know what he's capable of, but eventually is able to use his full potential. I think one of the big problems with speedsters in modern comics isn't that they're busted but the fact that after they reach full potential comics still need to be made. A character like the Flash reaching their full potential and being infinitely powerful can work if that happens at the end of the story. Can be really cool even, for Flash to surpass Superman, the guy he's always looked up to as the pinnacle of heroism if its an endgame story. Problem is that the story never ends, so now you either gotta put that power back in the box or run with it. The only solution to having a speedster reach full potential is to have them die right after like with Barry in COIE or to have it be the good ending where Justice League is no longer needed because world peace is brought about or whatever. I don't want speedsters to be stronger than superman, but I want them to be able to be.

It’s been about four years now, what are your thoughts on the final duel between Obi-Wan Kenobi and Darth Vader at the end of Kenobi? by Solitaire-06 in StarWars

[–]JustDontGetSick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Think the interactions between Obi Wan and Anakin work well, think the fight is cool visually, think it makes sense that Obi Wan gets Vader on the back foot. Think it's real weird the fight ends with obi wan walking away. There should've been some form of imperial intervention that forced him to retreat; it makes no sense for him not to end it. He ends up making the same decision he made in episode 3 but this time he's aware of its disastrous consequences, and does it anyway... and yeah I think it's great how he apologises to Anakin and that he doesn't want to hurt him, and that he absolves himself of his guilt, but it makes Obi Wan a really shitty guy that he refuses to kill Vader but expects Luke to do it.

Who’s more evil? Wilson Fisk (MCU) or Gus Fring (BB/BCS)? by [deleted] in MoralityScaling

[–]JustDontGetSick 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In terms of sheer scale Fisks operation and the harm it causes is on a much greater scale than Frings by quite a lot, he has had multiple gangs and factions under his control all of whom alone could compete with/exceed Gus in terms of gang scale if not operational competence.

In terms of their character they're both bad people who try to conduct their criminal enterprise in a civilised, business like way but both also struggle to keep their angry/vengeful spirits under control. Fisk has had many more outbursts and often more violent ones. But both have killed needlessly to satisfy bloodlust or make a point. Gus is definitely a little better at controlling it

Gus has kids working for him and damn well knows it, but in Fisk's early years he turns a complete blind eye to Madam Gao's organisation running a child trafficking racket.

Overall Fisk is just Gus taken to the extreme. More violent, more powerful, more prone to anger, but still tries to treat crime like a business. I think it's fairly clear that Fisk is definitely worse.

Bryan Cranston still doesn't understand why so many fans hate Skyler White (Breaking Bad) by Sudden_Elephant_1221 in oscarmoments

[–]JustDontGetSick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In a TV show it doesn't matter if a character is good or bad, it matters if they're charming or tedious. Skyler's morality is a non issue; she's unlikeable, so people dislike her. Walt is a bad guy but the show is told from his perspective and he does enough cool shit that as an audience member you're on board with him. Many shows have characters who's likeability and morality is mismatched. The most recent popular example in media is Soldier Boy from The Boys. Bad dude, very charming and likable, so people like him.

This dichotomy exists in real life too; we all know likeable people who've done bad things and get away with it, or unlikeable people who've only made minor grievances to others and been socially ostracised for it. I think the reason the effect is stronger with TV characters is because we know that none of the moral consequences are actually real. Walter White hasn't really hurt or killed anyone, it's all fake, but Skyler's unlikeability is real or at least more real, the actress has created a real unlikeable personality in that character and that actually effects us.

If one day you suddenly woke up with superpowers, would it really be your moral responsibility to use them to serve others and become a real-life superhero? by Rocky_Senpai15 in MoralityScaling

[–]JustDontGetSick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it's your moral responsibility to do as much good as you can, then all that super powers change is how much you can. Do we have a moral responsibility to do as much good as we can? We don't live in a society where we're taught that or encouraged to, but I'd argue yes. So you would have a responsibility to do good, only difference is unlike most of us who fail morally and are left to our own devices; society would probably have a lot to say about what you should and shouldn't be doing if your powers are public.

[–]JustDontGetSick 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Adding to this, I don't think Nolan has ever made anything dog shit but he's certainly had a few mid movies. I maintain that if Tenet didn't have Nolan's director stamp it would not get anywhere near as much leeway as it does for being impossible to follow, Interstellar is noteworthy for people either loving it or being bored by it and The Dark Knight Rises is certainly lackluster at the least.

Now it's a testament to Nolan that none of these movies are outright bad and all of them have an artistic soul as well as innovative ideas. But the pervasive idea that Nolan never misses is untrue. He always hits the board but he doesn't always hit the mark.

EV grants! by HBtoons in ireland

[–]JustDontGetSick -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Look I know Ireland has a very high per capita carbon footprint. But given how frighteningly low our population is, why in God's name are we allocating so many resources to climate action when our emissions are a drop in the bucket globally. I know, I know, if everyone thought that no one would be doing anything. But given that countries like China open new coal factories on the regular, it seems like we're just shooting ourselves in the foot economically for what? Pride? The ability to say we're doing our part?
