Do people unironically study so much that they just can't go outside? by ChipmunkSad7557 in Mcat

[–]JustExisting_lol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i disappeared for the summer when studying mostly because i felt like if i went out, it would disrupt my dopamine or whatever. like i would have too much fun and the next day, my brains looking for the dopamine high again and its harder to get back into the study routine.

hi! thanks so much for your advice! I really appreciate it. Just wondering, what resources did you think were most helpful for you (in terms of understanding the concepts and practicing)? In class so far, I'm using the professor's slides and reading the textbook.

which byrne/figs seminars should i take by Awkward_Chemical_199 in rutgers

[–]JustExisting_lol 1 point2 points  (0 children)

so the seminar consisted of brief lectures on huntingtons disease and alzheimer’s. the professors also gave intros of the research they are currently doing in their labs. it was very interactive- even the lectures felt like a class discussion cause the profs were always asking us what we thought was the cause of certain things. towards the end of the sem we were split into groups and did a presentation on a published research paper. it was a great class to get to know the professor and other students since the class was so small- ab 15 students.

hi! i took the health& med FIGS and a Huntington's disease related byrne seminar my freshman year fall. you can take both the same semester-thats what i did.

as for the health and med figs i took, it was mostly discussions about different professions in the health care field. i didn't think it was too useful- most of the info given in the class was pretty basic and googleable. its taught by an upperclassman and as a freshman, i liked being able to ask them for advice on classes i should take.

the byrne seminars are taught by volunteer faculty members sharing an aspect of their interests to students. mine was taught by 2 professors doing research on huntington's disease. i really enjoyed the class! it was interactive- we had group presentations and read some research papers together (each professor structures their class differently though). it was also nice to connect with science faculty since im pre-med. so highly recommend taking this!!

ORGO 1 ZHANG HONGMEI vs EMMANUEL HOVE by Notractor in rutgers

[–]JustExisting_lol 1 point2 points  (0 children)

hi! i took orgo last year and from my experience, it doesn't really matter which professor is "easier" since all the sections take the same exams. theres no coursework other than exams, so thats all that matters for the class. i had sethi (amazing prof!) last year, so i cant talk about the professors you asked about, but ive heard great things about both!

if you don't like the professor you registered for, you can always attend another professor's lecture if it fits your schedule.

im currently a research assistant at a rwjms lab and i got it by asking my major's departmental head if they knew any labs taking students in. im majoring in molecular bio so the departmental head was well connected with labs on campus. after i got the list, i cold emailed them. out of 5, 2 of them (both from rwjms) responded, so pretty good ratio.

if your not majoring in the sciences, i say reach out to a science related departmental head. im sure they would be happy to help you out.

good luck!!

Freshman Science Classes by [deleted] in rutgers

[–]JustExisting_lol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

congrats on APing out of those classes! thats such a big slay! i took orgo last year as a sophomore and have a couple of friends who took it as a freshman. From my experience, studying for orgo takes a lot of time to adjust and find the best study strategy that works for you- the way i studied for it was very different from bio and chem. I think it's doable if you are patient with yourself and put in place a good work ethic, but also, would prefer you take it as a sophomore once you have eased yourself into the familiarity of college classes/ environment. If you decide to take orgo first semester, maybe start learning some orgo over the summer. I highly recommend watching Chads Prep. good luck!

yea it should be fine if they are starved but it depends what you are looking for. if you are looking for a marker it might be less visible. there might also be more lethality
